Bonnie Gull Seafood Shack started their humble beginnings as a pop up in Hackney by before finding a permanent home at Foley Street in Fitzrovia. As it stands Bonnie Gull by Alex Hunter and Danny Clancy has been going strong with another addition in London and a chip shop Salt Sauce in Oxford. They are opening another restaurant and fishmongers in Chelsea in 2020.

Damed ! Had one of the best seafood in London. The price was reasonable for the food, that is fresh and delicious. I did share my plate with my mate in order to try all the different food they have. Didn't regret my choice, definitely recommend it and I had a lovely waiter, Michael if I remember well.

A good place for oysters and scallops!!

Not hugely a seafood fan but I know it when a good seafood dish hit me.

The restaurant has a Parisian feel to it, sits about 26 people in total, all tables are rather close to each other and it's a vey intimate environment.

I ordered lobster raviolo for starter and the pasta is way to thick, the lobster bisque was lacking in flavour and very average.

My friend ordered seared scallops which I wish I had! But she was kind enough to share one of her 3 and it was so tasty!!! One of the best I've had.

The oyster was super yum too, well recommended.

Guests were also served with some bread that tasted like malt loaf, which wasn't my cup of tea, too sweet. The palate cleanser in some form of apple and something foam was however very nice.

For main, I had the Seabass which was cooked well but not mind blowing and my friend had the cod which was nice and meaty. The side of chips was huge and probably not something I'll recommend to go with the delicate fish.

Desserts were chocolate cake (super rich) and apple and pear frangipane with ice cream ( good pastry!)

Damage for 1 oyster, 3 courses, half bottle wine and a dessert cocktail ( I recommend the espresso martini!) was 84 with service.

Rated 3.5 due to starter and staff wasn't very friendly.

I chose the Bonnie Gull on Foley Street which went down well as apparently my guest comes from ‘fishing folk’. It says it’s a shack – and in a world with Unicorns and Fairies, it may well be - but I would suggest it is a charming bright restaurant done out in ‘faux fisherman’.

As mentioned in my review of On the Bab, Michael & I took my mum & step-dad Ollie out for a celebratory birthday dinner at Bonnie Gull Seafood Shack a few Friday’s back. I chose the restaurant for its beach-cosy, laid-back atmosphere and lack of fancy frills, weekly-changing fresher than fresh fishy menu, and absolutely stellar reviews, which very neatly wraps up all of the things that my parents love in one beautiful birthday package.

8/10 Excellent seafood restaurant in Central London!. I went Bonnie Gull on Monday evening after work around 7PM. I highly recommend to get there eariler time, cause after 8pm or 8:30pm It gets very busy and the service would be very slow. They only have two staffs on the floor.
The food was superb! Perfectly cooked fresh seafood and fishes with delicate flavour. We had two starters(Squid and tomato water dish must have!),two mains(Half Lobster,Plaice) and a bottle of water, two glass of white wine, It was around £80 include service charge. I think that It's the best seafood restaurant in central London so far.
The venue is quite small and very white fresh looking decor with outside tables. Great for going out with family and friends or little romantic meal.

Why don't you try here! You won't regret it!

The restaurant has been designed to mimic a typical seaside restaurant. Even though it’s in the middle of Fitzrovia, the blue and white striped canopies and brightly lit interior shining through the high windows give it the air of a cheerful, homely oasis on a cold November evening. The warmth persists as you walk through the door and it feels like a home from home.
The menu changes at least daily. I’d looked over the the display menu from lunch and had a fair idea about what I wanted only to find that the freshly printed dinnertime menu had changed things around. One of my favourite features of the restaurant is a blackboard with a map of the UK that is updated with the sources of the produce of the day.

The crab was large and satisyingly meaty, with plenty of sweet crab flesh waiting to be extracted from the legs and claws piled up in the centre of the wooden serving board. The main shell had been hollowed out and filled with a deliciously rich crab mayonnaise, which we smeared onto the accompanying slice of toasted sourdough and drizzled over our salad.

We’re enticed by the raw bar and decide to order a couple of the fresh oysters each – the Large loch Ryan natives (3.00) and Portland pearls AAA gold star (2.80). Mel’s craving some of the Palourde clams (2.00 per 100g) so we order some of those too! This is accompanied by a vinegary migonette and a zesty shack cocktail sauce. We conclude that the pearl oysters and clams – delicate, well balanced and sweet, trump the the heavier and richer tasting loch Ryans.

Why haven’t you written it up, says Mr P. We went weeks ago now. You’re going to give it a bad review aren’t you? I’ve been busy, I said. Not too busy to do that write up on Dinings, he says, pointedly. You’re just lazy, he says. From the safety of a pub and down a phone line. It’s almost a pop-up in its simplicity, which isn’t a surprise, given that it started life as one in – you guessed it - Hackney, home of all things hipster.

Bonnie Gull has replaced Back to Basics, an older seafood restaurant, at the same address but there’s no relation between the two as far as I can tell. Service on both of my visits was friendly and helpful, if a little slow.

Bonnie Gull is a cosy little hideout just off Great Portland Street, and serves up unpretentious and delicious seafood from different parts of Britain. Their website states that the founders were inspired by "unassuming" seafood restaurants in British coastal towns, and I think that the interior of Bonnie Gull really hits the nail on the head with its laid-back, nautical theme. It really feels like you've been transported to a tiny seafood shack by the seaside, with its rope and wood decor throughout.

The menu changes daily depending on the seafood that they've sourced that day.

We ordered a number of different seafood dishes, including the  Dorset Palourde Clams "Bulhão Puto". Named after a famous Portuguese poet, these clams were drenched in a white wine, olive oil and cilantro sauce. The clams were juicy and succulent, and the sauce was great for dipping!

In short it was a great meal in a warm, comfortable setting. Service was prompt and polite, and we felt no rush whatsoever to leave quickly.

Upon hearing my dining companion’s wish for something light for dinner, I immediately thought of Bonnie Gull. The self-professed seafood shack has been getting good reviews ever since they opened in Fitzrovia. And they actually took reservations – which didn't really help me to be honest since this was a last-minute plan and they were all booked up. Luckily, if you’re flexible and near the area you can get yourself on the wait list to get a call when some of their bar seats open up. Which is exactly what we did – parked ourselves in a nearby pub while I was on constant vigilance waiting for the phone to ring. And soon we found ourselves in Bonnie Gull on Foley Street, just a few lanes away from Oxford Circus.

While it is a fairly small restaurant, I loved the whole cheerful nautical feel of it. From the striped awning outside to the sea maps on the wall and treasure chest of oysters at the bar, you start to feel like you’re in some tiny seaside shack somewhere along the British coast. We started with some oysters and I preferred the slightly sweet Carlingfords to the Jersey Oysters from Ireland which had strong mineral aftertaste.

For the mains, I was tempted to order the Fish and Chips – Beer Battered Haddock with Beef Dripping Chips, I mean how good does that sound? But then I saw The Crab. The most gigantic of all crustaceans I have ever seen. A massive 1 kg beast – tenderly torn apart, served with mayonnaise and sourdough bread. There was so much lovely crab meat to dive in and delve into – quite a fun experience. My companion chose the Cod wrapped in Prosciutto with Asparagus and Broad beans – which he said was good but a bit unexciting.

Both of us really enjoyed dessert - a deconstructed Banana tart made of caramelized sliced bananas on a flat pastry drizzled with passion fruit and served with salted caramel ice-cream. Simple delicious flavours to end the meal.

In terms of seafood offerings, Wright Brothers in Soho has a more extensive menu and it’s probably easier to get a reservation there since Bonnie Gull is tiny. However, I like the fun casual vibe of Bonnie Gull and it is an intensely charming spot. It would be fun to sit at their tables outside on one of London's elusive warm summer days.

Yet another pop-up to go permanent, this time in the guise of Bonnie Gull, who previously were seen as the Seafood Shack in hackney, and after a couple of projects they are now in this set up in Fitzrovia. All their seafood is British, and responsibly sourced. It will change every day depending on what's fresh, I suppose we'll wait and see if some things will be more regular than others. Reasonably priced, great seafood restaurants are hard to come by in London, but this place certainly fits the bill.
The set up inside is small with enough space for 26 people, plus a few at the 'Raw Bar' even then it's at a push, almost packed in like sardines. Be prepared to get familiar with your neighbours as there is not much room for maneuver. They have a great set up behind the bar, with a treasure chest full of langoustines, oysters, clams and whelks.
The menu looks good, we went for the crab and mullet for mains; the battered haddock looked tempting but thought I'd try something a bit different than 'Fish'n'chips' at a place like this. Good value for money considering location and sourcing, most mains bordering around £14, and £17 for the whole brown cock crab.
Overall, I think Bonnie Gull has all the attributes to be a success. It doesn't try to make itself too upmarket and flamboyant that most seafood restaurants tend to do. Only thing that maybe an issue is the space conumdrum.

Order Parthilly Rock Oyster, pickled herring and mussels as starters. We love the herring, I first had this in Amsterdam and this surely is better! The mussel is good as well but not much surprise. Then we had the last fish and chip of the night! After us they ran out and it is just 7pm! The fish is so fresh, very crispy as well. It gives some awesome crunchy sound when I knock it with my fork! It also keep its crunchiness after we have taken many photos and let it rest for couple minutes. Overall, good quality food with reasonable price. Highly recommended.

Every dish was delicious & well presented. Small plates of well prepared fish & seafood with amazing sauces. The staff were very welcoming, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The restaurant is quite small but not cramped. I would highly recommend this restaurant and I will definitely return.

Lovely little place. It is small but you can sit comfortably. The food is extraordinary and fresh, I liked that you could see on the wall where the food came from. The highlights for us was the langoustines, dory, tartare and the lemon merengue. The staff and service is wonderful, friendly and helpful. We ordered clams but they were a bit sandy and they took it off the menu, which is really fair to me. The sauces are amazing, like plate licking good... Would definitely go back.

We nearly ordered one of everything! The food was good. Comfortable except everyone kept reminding us that we had to return the table by 8 PM. Otherwise, the service was good and the place nice. I can see why it is popular.

A lovely little restaurant with great service and, if possible, even better food. We loved the little touches like the blackboard map on the wall indicating where the fresh catches for the day came from. I especially enjoyed the cullen skink croquettes to start and the fish n chips - the haddock was beautifully flaky and mushy peas delicious as well.

Eating in this place was a pleasant experience. You can either sit in side or outside, being outside is much better. Food was amazing in terms of quality and look. Prices a bit high but it's seafood so there is no surprise, around 3 pounds for one oyster, good you could choose if you want whole crab or half , definitely half is enough, not everyone can eat lots of crab meat and not get bored with same taste, but it was delicious and getting out crab meat from shell was quite of a challenge, clums were very well prepared :) Overall I liked it!!!

Hands down BEST FISH N CHIPS IN THE WORLD!! Excellent quality and perfect execution. Lobster risotto was on point, padron peppers were just right, and fresh oysters (no pics) were outstanding. Avocado mousse with crab meat could have used some more crab meat though.

Fresh fish in a cute (and upmarket) Britsh seaside setting with knowledgeable and friendly staff! The menu here is small with only seafood options depending on the catch of the day (more fish than shellfish when we went). We had very good oysters to start along with some tasty mussles - however our seafood expert friends did note that the mussels were overcooked (hence the four stars). For mains there were four fish options, fish and chips or lobster. We wanted to try all the fish so we shared the hake, sea bream, pollock and cod - thumbs up to all particularly the sea bream which had a deliciously crisp skin and the pollock which was quite a unique taste for a fish dish. Planning on coming back though might try out the Soho branch which looks to have a bigger menu.

Had an enjoyable dinner experience at Bonnie Gull with fish and seafood cooked in ways I've never tasted before! The staff were very attentive and friendly. We were a big group in a fairly small restaurant but they accommodated us very well.
