Having been to the mother land of all steaks and I know what your thinking what of Texas but to that I say
You need to Taste and see
The steaks in America might be big but the taste of those in Argentina beat them and let's face it people it's not like you going to starve on these steaks.....
Anyway in Hackney by Broadway market resides a restaurant that made me reminisce about those fine steaks in Argentina and that will haunt my tastebuds till I return.
In steps Buen Ayre a haven for meat lovers ....having seen the 'Parrillada Deluxe' which is an 14oz prime argentine steak+ 11 oz grilled argentine rib- eye steak, two argentine style pork sausages and provolone cheese we opted for an extra sausage rather than black pudding.
With 5 lads with serious appetites Buen Ayre delivered not only in good simple food but the environment wasn't pretentious it was relaxed and the staff was warm and welcome it was truly like going to your cousins house for your aunts great food.
The decor is a little worn and dated however with the service, visible open grill so you can see your food being cooked to perfection!
Uncomplicated Argentine grill is how I would describe Buen Ayre and boy I can't wait to go back!!

There is one place in London for the "meat sweats" specifically the Argentinian variety. Buen Ayre is where I go with absolutely no reservations :)
Order the Parillade!!
Very very good place if you fancy a meat fest. Great service, coupled with enthusiasm from our waiter, who took the time to talk about and recommended the various cuts. We had loads of steak and we're completely stuffed by the end of it. Will definitely go again and again......

The steaks were massive (I couldn't picture what 14 oz actually translates to on a plate) and probably would have made a meal on their own. Not that I didn't appreciate the chips - they were great too, crunchy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. We got one portion plain and one with garlic and parsley.
Near to me on Broadway Market, however, is a little independent Argentinian Restaurant called Buen Ayre. So with a visitor down from Scotland, I decided to take the opportunity to tuck into some Argentinian beef.
Another great feature of Buen Ayre is their excellent red wine list.
So Buen Ayre is a steak restaurant. That much is clear. There is no point going here unless you too worship at the altar of meat. 45 covers only, it could sit quietly in the corner of one of Gaucho's barns. They run two sittings, 6.45pm and 9pm, and I'd a
I hadn't eaten at Buen Ayre for quite a while, especially after discovering Garufa, which is very close to our house. Then again Broadway Market is just a bus ride away. I do enjoy where I live. I first went there not long after it opened, oh so many years ago now, to celebrate an ex work colleagues birthday. That was a great Sunday afternoon, and I met a few Argentineans there, who subsequently kept inviting me to their weekly asados. Heaven. This return trip to Buen Ayre, was because our Colombian friend and her Polish husband were in need of some serious steak action. We had recently returned from a weekend in Paris, where we tried but failed to find some good steak and frittes. The quality of meat in Paris has seemingly declined over the years. Disappointing. So after Buen Ayre was suggested we jumped at the idea of eating some good red meat. For some reason I had my apprehensions about eating here. No idea why, but I have become a major fan of Garufa, and having eaten at some of B
Having lived in Brazil for most of my teenage years, I was lucky enough to have experienced the many “Churrascaria” or “Rodizio” restaurants of the land. These are superb restaurants, real paradise to all meat lovers, and I strongly recommend them to anyo
Buen Ayre, owned and cheffed by master 'asador' John Rattagan, is something of an institution for London's carnesseurs and one of the few authentic Argentine Parrillas on offer.
This is the place for a steak that won't break the bank.
Wooden chairs and tables are part of a clean and minimal design, they let their food do the talking. I'm not fluent in Spanish but I do believe these Argentinian cuts of beef had nothing but compliments for me.
I have visited Buen Ayre on various occasions and every single time it made my day. Decor is minimal, mostly referring to various places in Argentina, history of restaurant and its Head-Chef - John Rattagan. I would love to describe every single dish on the menu but we don't have whole day and I don't won't to spoil any surprises so let's concentrate on the restaurant's main feature - meat. Succulent, fresh and well seasoned quality beef it's grotesquely something really hard to find in London's restaurant. This place definitely knows how to prepare it, present it and serve it. For the first time goers I would definitely recommend Parillada Deluxe or Parillada Buen Ayre which let you taste the differences between different cuts of meat. You should definitely try Chimichurri sauce that comes with most of plates!
Buen Ayre's wine menu concentrates on Argentinian wines (what a surprise!) which go unsurprisingly well with served dishes. Personally I'm a Malbec fan so in regards of wine I would recommend bottle of La Linda which represents great value/price. After all of that, why 4.5? Bigger selection of Argentinian beers wouldn't hurt!

What a wonderful place is Buen Ayre. We had the most friendly, effusive waiter and the meat was one of the best steaks I've ever had. If you're a carnivore and you like a proper steak, then head here, and if you have the appetite, dive in to one of their mixed grill plates. Both times I went, I knew I wouldn't be able to handle it and stuck to just a normal steak, but each time I thoroughly enjoyed it. Other steak restaurants might get more attention (Gaucho, Hawksmoor) but this little, friendly place can run with the big dogs.
Buen Ayre is an amazing little place run by very friendly Argentines. If you love healthy portions of meat then this is the place for you. I recommend the Bite de Lomo or the Bife de Chorizo medium rare. Top that with a house Malbec wine, and you really are in for a treat.
They also have a good range of home made empanadas which have a variety of fillings. The open kitchen is great because you can see the being cooked in front of your eyes.
I wish they had outdoor seating...

Arrived with no reservation and they were kind enough to accommodate us later on a busy Saturday night and I’m so glad they did - the charcoal grill in view of our table was an immediate reassurance this was going to be fantastic. We had the sweetbreads and burratta to start and then a sirloin and ribeye with a side of chips and a salad, and all was absolutely stunning. The steaks were cooked to medium rare perfection, the chips were the exact right balance of crisp and fluffy, the salad was simple but ideal for cutting through the richness. The service was warm and personable, and they were kind enough to cap off our meal with a limoncello on the house. Flawless experience, I can’t wait to return!
Really delicious steak and great service too. We had one of meat platters (2 steaks, 2 sausages and cheese) to share, chips, padron peppers and a nice bottle of red for £145 including service. Really recommend, staff were lovely and attentive.
Best steak and chips ever. Very welcoming and let us stay in late to chat with our friends. Highly recommended.
Really good Argentinian steak, well cooked and seasoned. Fries, sauce and Padron peppers also tasted really good.
Would definitely recommend if you’re in the area.
Parrillada Deluxe makes 2 people full of meat easily. The crucial thing is the heat source in ours wasn't evenly distributed to the bottom of the grill, so it made cheese burnt and meats cool down, something to be careful.
We've also had mediterranean salad and Hongos a la parrilla con pesto y guarnicion. Salad was ok but there is nothing too special about mushrooms in terms of taste.
The atmosphere in the entrance floor is nice but we were taken to downstairs where a wintergarden type of area is. That was more quiet and isolated from the main floor, so you can't really feel the vibe of the restaurant.
So good! Portions huge and great quality steaks and wine. Affordable as well...loved every bite. Basically two drinks per person and fully stuffed for less than £50 per person (5 of us in total). Will most definitely come back.
Had a good meal here on the Thursday before the Easter bank holiday weekend. Nice variety of starters, sides and of course meats. The dishes were all solid, uncomplicated. Meat was cooked well and as requested. Service was fairly efficient and accommodating. It’s an expensive meal though of course you’re presumably getting good quality meats in meaningful servings. And to be fair, the amount we ordered (which we thought was reasonable) turned out to be far more than we could eat so we had enough leftovers for an entire meal for two the next day. Overall we were happy with the meal and will certainly return.
Best Argentine steak I’ve ever had. Steaks delivered on a sizzling platter
One of the most amazing steaks I ever had!!!
This place is a treasure if you want to experience true argentine meat.
I grew up in Argentina but since I left, I have missed the great argentine meat.
I have been eating in a lot of argentine steakhouses in the past couple of years and this without question gave me an identical experience of what a delicious and carefully made argentinian steak is.
Combine the great meat, with great kind and friendly service, a very warm and nice ambient and good prices - and you get an amazing experience!
This is a must try for anyone who wants to eat an amazing steak and enjoy a lovely dinner in London.
Try to make a reservation before arriving because the place is not big and is always packed!
I will surely come back to this restaurant many times!
First time at this restaurant tonight and it was amazing best steak I’ve had for a long time cooked to perfection and great garlic chips . Staff so lovely and friendly too. Really enjoyed it and can’t wait to return .

Amazing food quality and staff. One of the best grill in London.
It was as great as I remember, good service and nice food. I visited on 7th September 2020. The steak is one of my favourite around London, sadly last visit is slightly over salted. The bread basket come with and cheese is one of the best thing in the world! Their sweetbread is amazing if you dare to try.
Incredible food! Had dreams of this steak the night afterwards. Get the cider sausage as well. Really nice place.
What a delicious meal, we had a bottle of red, which was light and easy to drink. To start we had burratta, bread which came with blue cheese butter, paprika sausage and humus, all of it was amazing. We ordered the 2 steaks with 2 argentinia sausages for main and a Mediterranean salad - we asked for rare and it was perfect, the salad was delicious. The service was fast and our waiter was really friendly and helpful.
Maybe too crowded.. A couple of tables less would guarantee a better service.. even though the food is amazing and the staff is friendly. But with so many tables to serve sometimes the staff is under high pressure and they loose their smiles! Good work though
Most amazing steak I have ever had in my life. I would definitely 😁 recommend this for a treat 😉.
Great atmosphere and good value. But being a conosseur of Argentine steak, I must admit my steak could have been better, although that may be just because they seem to specialise in the cheaper cuts here. Would be lovely to have more choice of cuts.
