Had a great experience here 5 years ago. This time we had slow and unenthusiastic service. We had to wait 45 minutes for the waiter even came to the table - let alone take our order!! The tasting menu should be an experience and the explanations were unenthusiastic and quite frankly they seemed bored! We were then charged for 6 bottles of water - £30 - which we certainly didn't have. Overcharged by £220 for wine. Disappointing is an understatement. We will not be returning and leave very disappointed.
I booked a taster menu for myself and 3 other guests at Roux, after having previously had wonderful experiences dining at Le Gavroche. The service was impeccable. I found the taster menu a little dull, it didn't have the wow factor I was expecting. The wine list was amazing and we opted for a superb house champagne. I would recommend this restaurant, however I would go for the a la carte menu if returning.
Top level Fine Dining cooking and exemplary service made this a memorable and highly enjoyable lunch..my crab followed by beef and salted caramel tart were each delicious, perfectly judged and took great skill. The same is true of my cousin's mackerel, duck and plum pudding.
This is cooking with great finesse.
Service was the correct balance between formality and friendliness. This is a wonderful restaurant.

As much as I love the convenience of digital photography, there is something so wonderful about film – the uncertainty and excitement when watching the image develop is something that really can’t be replaced. I was given a FujiFilm Instax camera last Christmas, and over the past year have captured so many amazing memories and experiences.
I had decided to try Roux Parliament Square after watching head chef Steve Groves on the recent Celebrity Masterchef . I liked him (as one likes someone from a TV programme) and felt like trying his food which looked pretty interesting. We certainly were not disappointed, each dish tasting as good as it looked.
It was my birthday this week and because I am always planning everything, I gave TBH a list of restaurants I wanted to try and told him to surprise me. The list was varied and in the end he had to get help from a colleague who is just as into food as I am. Lucky me, as had it not been for her, he would probably have gone for one of the safe options on the list....
Hi all, hope you're having a nice weekend. I started mine off by having dinner at "Roux at Parliament Square" last night. The restaurant, brainchild of Michel Roux jr's served some of my highlight dishes of 2015. Compliments to Steve Groves, winner of MasterChef: The professionals in 2009. I am a fan of the show and in a way it's nice to see Michel giving a massive opportunity to one of the talented winners.
I’ve been following a new eating and exercise plan, which means that I have been keeping the eating out to a minimum. But it was my birthday recently and if you can’t celebrate your birthday with a fantastic dinner, then when can you? Life is for living and all of that… So I tasked The Better Half (TBH) with choosing where he would take me and after a quick peruse of my bucket list – it can’t get any easier than that, right? He chose Roux at Parliament Square.
Beautiful and well presented food, friendly staff and a cracking cheese board but all slightly too pretentious for me. I would return for a special occasion but I wouldn't rush back for a regular evening.
Again we really enjoyed our meal. The food is well executed, and the flavours generally well balanced. There were more diners in the restaurant this time, and this added to the atmosphere.
Roux at Parliament Square is just around the corner from the Abbey located in one of the most beautiful buildings in Westminster, a period building designed by Alfred Waterhouse, the architect of London’s iconic Natural History Museum.
Roux at Parliament Square has been open almost a year now and though there were a handful of press articles around the launch, Urbanspoon shows just two blog reviews of the restaurant since then, both in September of last year. That's not to say the place is empty, on our visit it was doing a thriving trade, but given its location and the preponderance of suit and ties, it's not the usual foodie crowd. And that seems a little bit of a shame because what they are doing at Roux at Parliament Square is rather good and it feels like something of a find. The dining room itself has a sense of prestige and is comfortable rather than fashionable in the way that say Dinner by Heston is. Service is professional and efficient and the a la carte menu is presented on a single page but still offers an interesting and diverse range that hints at classic with a modern twist. As we decide, canapes of salmon crepe, and foie gras are excellent. We follow with an interesting prestarter of asparagus bavaro
Food was absolutely delicious and the staff were great, even lending me an unbrella to collect a lost friend in the rain! A fine sommelier who was very informative. My only complaint was the back room was a little gloomy but the building was shrouded in scaffolding so it may not always be so.
Steve Groves, formerly sous-chef here, has taken over as head chef. As we shall see, this has led to an improvement in the standard of cooking. An amuse-bouche of pea mousse with olives and cucumber, served cold, was a light and refreshing introduction to the meal, the pea flavour surprisingly deep (15/20).
The mostly French wine list had choices such as Crossroads Winery Butchers Block 2010 at £34 for a wine that you can find in the high street for £13, the lovely Chateau Musar 2002 at £82 for a wine that retails at £30, and Chateau Matort Charmes 2006 at £129 for a wine that will set you back £60 in a shop.
Ravioli of crab was served with etuvee (braised) leek and champagne veloute fluffed up into a foam. The pasta had good texture, the crab was light and fresh, and the champagne foam was a light complement to the shellfish (15/20). Langoustine consommé was excellent, the langoustines of good quality and tender, the consommé a nice example of classical technique, light and packed with flavour (15/20). Mackerel salad (£13) featured carefully cooked mackerel, herb salad and pleasant tomatoes, though this dish, simple as it was, needed really dazzling tomatoes to stand out rather than there merely good ones here (14/20).
I was impressed with a dish of Cumbrian chicken (£24) with girolles, sweetcorn and watercress with granola. It is tough to find chicken in the UK with a great deal of flavour (compared to the chicken of, say, Landes in France) but the precise seasoning accentuated what flavour there was. There were two things that made the dish stand out for me. First was the interesting set of textures provided by the garnishes, in particular the granola made from popcorn, puffed rice, sunflower seeds and chicken skin. The other was the jus served with the chicken. This was an example of old-school French saucing, the chicken cooking juices reduction rich in flavour but avoiding gloopiness, finished in this case with some Riesling, the result being light and delicious; I would have been happy to just sit down to a crust of bread and a large bowl of this sauce (16/20).
A dessert of poached peach (£11) with raspberries, Muscat and pistachio was prettily presented and had very good raspberries, the combination with the pistachio and the accurately poached peach working well (15/20). The bill came to £105 a head, with a bottle of good wine. If you consumed a more modest wine then a typical bill would be closer to £80 a head. Service was very good throughout the evening. This meal felt like a distinct notch up from my previous meals here.
It is located in Parliament Square, in a Georgian setting bathed in natural light.
This restaurant offers a light and modern French cuisine. The price of the meal is between 30 and 55 pounds, a bit expensive for students!.
Roux one of the fine modern restaurants in London. We were requested to be seated by the window, and explained how the food and drinks would be served. We first ordered drinks and the first cocktail arrived quickly. The food arrived as we finished our first drink and we were asked if we were ready for our second. They served variety and customer service was just amazing. The food is a taster selection, but was enough for two gals means the portion was quite small, perhaps not 'growing men'. As we finished the food and our second drink they took our platter and confirmed we were ready for our third drink cocktail. As each drink was served the waiter went through the ingredients and explained us accordingly. There is good choice of cocktails/ food, and this suited us to sit, relax, enjoy and catch up and just be served food and drink. Its was wonderful experience and will def recommend.
We chose to spend a night out in Roux for a special occasion (nameday). We have read about its reputation and went through the menu before visiting.
Everything was according to our expectations.
Excellent service, immaculate environment, very friendly staff.
We chose the 5 course menu and everything was fantastic. Presentation wise as well as taste wise.
The price was totally justifiable.
We would definitely go back.
P.S.: Additional points for the no discretionary charge to the bill. Therefore bear in mind to add your tip for the staff.
Lovely restaurant! It is nice and cosy inside, and to be honest, I was expecting the price of the menu to be higher. I could not afford to eat there often, but on occasion, that's a great place to go. The food was really nice, we all enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.
Our hostess was absolutely charming, a young lady called Valentina, her presence made the experience even better.
I will definitely go back for the next good opportunity such as a birthday etc. I would recommend.
Went here using a set menu offer in Timeout magazine: 3 courses and a glass of bubbly for £34.
The dishes were delicious if not a bit small in portion size, but then this is expected given it is fancy restaurant and a set menu.
If you go for the set menu, there are a limited amount of options but we both found something we could eat off of it. I especially loved the vanilla cheesecake with rhubarb.
Service was excellent. I was shocked we didn’t get asked to pay a service charge, which is unusual for London, so we were free to tip as much as we wanted.
This is the second time we've been here. The food is sumptuous... perfectly prepared and presented. The wine is fabulous. In fact there are not enough words to describe how wonderful this place is.
The food tasted pretty good but not great, like other Michelin-starred restaurants that I went. The service was good. The food presentation is very nice, and the location is great.
Most incredible meal we have ever had. Been to many Michelin star restaurants before and this outdid itself with the flavour combinations. Service was also impeccable.
Quite simply one of the best chefs menu tastings I have ever had. The turbot was the star of the show but nothing disappointed...
Sensational food, service and atmosphere. On top of all that we met Michel Roux Jr and he gave my wife a rose, we were astounded. Wonderful evening.
