An old old chess club still running where the maitre d plays seven games at once and still manages to coordinate exquisite servings of the roast beef of old England Yorkshire pudding comes from the north and sole from Dover potted shrimp etc etc somewhat sublime and otherworldly but only because it is. Maple leaf rag and rondo alla turca on piano! Potted palms and parquetry. The serving trolleys are almost large enough to apply for EU membership.

Proudly, Unreservedly Old-School. We thoroughly enjoyed the Beef Wellington, Dover Sole, desert sampler, the room itself & the service. Worth every penny!

This restaurant and accompanying amenities were steped in character and all the staff encountered were very friendly and helpful. We had the set menu with wood pigeon and beef. The former was delicious, albeit an unusual taste compared to some other birds, accompanied by a good selection of beans and mini potatoes. However, the beef dish was the cornerstone of the meal and seemed to be thoide of re majority of the diners when we visited. Three troleys are guided around by chefs and contain a number of different cuts of beef which are carved to your specifications in front of you. This is served with gravy made from the cows juices, an extremely large Yorkshire pudding, roasts and buttered cabbage. I selected a medium cut which was suprisingly pink for such instructions but incredably tasty. The texture and taste of the beef was superb and the portion size was very generous - more what a mother would giveto stuff a son than an expensive London eatery size. I could find little to fault in the experience and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys good traditional food and dining in atmospheric locales.

Although I walk past Simpsons on a daily basis, I have never before gone to this restaurant (though I have been to functions in the building). There are many tourist traps in this area (well, most of the restaurants in this area), and I feared this might

Fancy amazing service, delicious food and great ambiance?
Pull up a chair at Simpson's in the Strand, the former 'home of chess', and allow the waiters to pamper you for an evening of great food and spoon lickin' pudding.
The menu is varied but the highlight is their Roast Rib of Scottish Beef (aged 28 days) that arrives on the silver trolley.
But while you are checking out the menu, a waiter will come with a warm basket of bread and offer you a choice of bread - warm, moist and delicious. And then out arrives the silver trolley with that beautiful roast carved at table. Yorkshire pudding and horseradish is offered as well as a hearty serving of gravy. So beautiful! And a separate plate of roast potatoes and Savoy cabbage will shortly follow to compliment your meal. You'll be wishing you ate less at luncheon. :)
O but do save room for pudding!! If I could, I would go back just for pudding -- it is truly spoon lickin' perfection. Yum, Yum. My mum, dad and I opted for a pudding sampler (for 2) and were not disappointed. It was perfection. Our favourite was their Simpson's Treacle Pudding with Vanilla Custard. If I was allowed -- I would have licked the plate -- so scrumptious.
Now that I have hopefully made your mouth water, go and make reservations! You will not regret a visit. Yum Yum. And do ask your waiter about the history of the building.

Surprisingly tasty food, which unfortunately my pictures don’t do justice. Haven’t been in years, but the mix of classic staples such as the beef trolleys together with more modern comfort food really works. Must give a mention to our lovely waiters who made it a truly special occasion!

Had a Christmas meal a la carte with my work colleagues and it's the best Christmas dinner we have had in the 17+ years of Christmas dinners! Good service and very good food. For me only let down a little by dessert, but that was mainly down to my choice. Formal sophisticated dining with personable staff and good food, just what you want!

Enjoyed my time at the Simpson's. Service was great and I appreciate the place keeping up with the tradition. I ordered the roast beef on the cart and it was delicious. My partner ordered the sole and we shared the Christmas themed desserts.

Wow! Simpson's has earned its stellar reputation after years of perfect service and incredible food. Housed by the iconic high end Savoy hotel on the Strand, right in the heart of London. Their Sunday roast has a world class reputation and for good reason. The huge racks of roast rib are wheeled to your table and carved right in front of you. You choose whatever you want, well done to rare, they will give you a good plate of meat and an array of side dishes. They organised flowers and allowed us to bring a celebration cake. Excellent food and service does come at a price so be prepared. An opulent authentic English dining experience.

We absolutely love Simpson's. My partner and I got engaged here. The service is next to none. We celebrate most of our special occasions here and it is always excellent. The food is very tasty and I haven't had beef as good anywhere else. My partner participated in the beef carving course and Simpson's make the event very special. If you are looking for something that's a bit extra in London, this is definitely it.

Had a wonderful evening on 5th December with two friends. Excellent food, very friendly and professional staff. We all had starters; I had the devilled eggs, which were very nice. Two of us had roast beef from the trolley. Without exaggeration probably the best roast beef that I have ever had. Fantastic quality beef, perfectly served medium rare (you can have it more cooked, if you want). Excellent gravy and Yorkshire pudding and potatoes. The third member of the party had another version of beef, with which she was very happy. We had a most enjoyable evening.

We truly enjoyed our time here. From the live music the table side service, we relaxed and let the atmosphere of their grand dining room set the mood. We enjoyed lovster Thermador as well and the table side roast. Only downside they ran out of the dessert we wanted to order.

The best roast beef ever!! Service was superb, staff were very friendly and attentive. And the food was amazing!! I had the the scallops to start with - wonderful flavour. Our friends had the potted shrimp and they were equally happy! Three of us had the roast beef and, oh my goodness, it was cooked to perfection, the meat was so soft and succulent and our friends pork chop was also amazing in flavour. Portions were quite large and very satisfying. We will all be returning for another evening very soon!!!

If you can't get rezzies in the restaurant, pop upstairs to the bar where you can relax over stellar cocktails (best Bees Knees I've ever had) and elevated bar snacks. Elegant, yet cozy, it's perfect for drinks pre/post-show or just for fun.

We thoroughly enjoyed the dinner and was able to experience generally good service. The three course meal left us so full and satisfied. Will highly recommend the crab cake with soft boiled egg, and tender and juicy lamb. One interesting thing is that there are many people celebrating their birthdays here and this means you'll have the listen to the birthday song over the speakers multi times an evening. It might not be ideal if you're looking for a romantic night out.

My dad used to take me there all the time. I was a real fussy eater but never had a problem eating anything from here. All delicious. The place is steeped in history and never seems to change, its a wonderful place an absolute gem and everytime I've been there since my father passed, has been full of wonderful memories. I so hope the place never changes, its like stepping back to a different time .

There are all sorts of restaurants in London, from the restaurant which makes you fancy you are in Paris to the restaurant which makes you wish you were. There are palaces in Piccadilly, quaint lethal chambers in Soho, and strange food factories in Oxford Street and Tottenham Court Road. There are restaurants which specialize in ptomaine and restaurants which specialize in sinister vegetable messes. But there is only one Simpson's. Simpson's, in the Strand, is unique. Here, if he wishes, the Briton may for the small sum of half a dollar stupefy himself with food. The god of fatted plenty has the place under his protection. Its keynote is solid comfort. P.G. Roy was absolutely fantastic and made our experience wonderful. As Americans, we are generally used to better service than what you'll find in London due to it being a viable career in the US where the best can do very very well. In London, it seemed, there were no career servers but Roy would have fit in the best fine dining establishments. A true professional at his craft. Food was good but I'd come back for the service!

I visited Simpson's courtesy of the late P.G. Wodehouse. I cannot imagine that the scene where Wodehouse places Aline Peters and George Emerson at Simpson's will be any different when that peerless restaurant reopens in 2024 than it was in the fictional "Something Fresh" set in the 1920s...

Fabulous! Visited here last week with my boyfriend for our anniversary as he seen it featured on a programme he watched a while back. So glad he chose here. It was the best roast dinner I've ever had. Brought out to you on a trolley and cut infront of you. Someone plays the piano and sings quietly in the corner which just adds to the charm of the place. Service is amazing, the atmosphere lovely and the building itself is beautiful.

I started off my evening in the bar upstairs where I had some excellent drinks served by incredibly knowledagble bartenders! We then proceeded to the incredible main dining area which has been recently refurbished. I had a delicious roast beef which was a perfect medium rare. I finished my meal with a lovely sticky toffee pudding. The reason it's 4 stars instead of 5 was the speed of service at the end of the evening. We were almost forgotten about as the main wait staff had finished their shift. All in all great place and great food!

We recently visited for a festive celebration. I absolutely loved the food and the service. Our waitress was very informative and always alerted us to meat/ alcohol which she thought we may not want due to religious reasons. Great attention to detail throughout. Would return here and definitely recommend.
