Great fish, very well fried and nicely moist inside. Tried steak too which is above average. Fish soup is superb, must try. Will visit again

Good fish, expensive price. Would recommend here for occasion, not your usual fish and chips dinner or takeaway place. Love the fish soup. Oysters were fresh too.

Fantastic value fish restaurant that has apparently evolved from a fish and chips shop.  Would recommend booking here as it seems quite popular.

Brightly lit space that has nonetheless an elegant and professional atmosphere  despite plastic chairs and paper napkins.  A really good address for simple fish cookery with excellent ingredients, generous portions and modest prices.

We were a table of four and ordered two bottles of wine during our meal.  There were several bottles available under the £15 mark.  Happily we all knew each other well enough to taste every order on the table.

For starters we shared two grilled sardines, six rock oysters and four boiled crab claws.  A nice mignonette sauce came with the oysters.  Crab shells had been cracked in the kitchen so the meat was easy to get at.  The mayo it came with was not homemade, but had been tarted up with some mustard seed.  Grilled sardines were excellent.  We were brought four smokey fish cakes, on the house.

For mains we had two orders of the grillled swordfish from the daily specials board which came with salsa verde, baked cherry tomatoes and rocket salad.  There was also an order of deep fried hake with chips and one of grilled plaice.  For sides we had onion rings, extra chips, boiled new potatoes, rocket and parmesan salad, and the daily boiled vegetables of broccoli and carrots.  Owner of the plaice found his dinner a bit boring.  Swordfish was well cooked but a little under seasoned.  Deep fried hake was astonishingly good.   Extremely crisp dry batter.  Chips were good but not double fried.  I liked the tasty onion rings. Nice balsamic vinaigrette on the salad.  Some tartare sauce and plenty of lemon was provided with the mains.

We were all pretty full at this point so shared a single dessert of panna cotta with berry coulis.   Excellently wobbly and delicious, being not too sweet.

Really good value given how copious our meal was, especially considering the luxury ingredients in our starters.  Huge dinner for four including the two bottles of wine without service was £110.

As someone born and bred in a seaside town, I have pretty high standards when it comes to the British classic fish and chips. Thankfully, despite being far from shores, Fish Central offers an authentic and incredibly fulfilling dining experience.

I opted for the classics - deep fried cod, chips and a portion of mushy peas. Although I wasn't overly impressed with the mushy peas but otherwise, the rest of the food was absolutely delicious. Fresh, flaky cod in wonderfully crisp batter that falls apart perfectly in your mouth - served with a creamy tartare sauce. The chips are fantastic - proper seaside style without a hint of greasiness and cooked absolutely perfectly.

The large portion sizes give great value for money and they have an excellent range of options to choose from - including a selection of grill options if you're in a group with a non-fish fan. They also have a takeaway outlet if you want your fish supper to go. With lovely, friendly service and incredibly popular with the local community, Fish Central is definitely the 'plaice' to head to for a real, authentic fish supper.

Arrived after 10:30, but rather than been turned away, we were welcome in by George who I think is the owner and chef. Goats cheese starter was superb. My girlfriend had cod and chips with the choice to have it fried, grilled or baked (I tried a little, if Heineken cooked fish they'd probably try to do like this). I had the Rock Salmon, every forkful was like little bites of heaven. Service was excellent - staff very friendly, and the food was prompt. Great!!

No nonsense good food and great fun. We had perfectly cooked hake and chips and cod and chips with a decent bottle of wine all for a fair price. Noisy in a good lively way, and with a very diverse range of diners: a few had schlepped up from the Barbican, a few tourists, but mostly locals of all ages, shapes and sizes ! Great fun and a perfect start to the weekend.

The fish and chip restaurant reinvented. Enjoy cod and chips with a beer or wine. Starters and desserts on offer too. However staff can be funny about the minimum £10 charge and it's not that cheap.

Fish and chips is one of the national dishes of England, consisting of battered fish, commonly Atlantic cod or haddock, and deep-fried chips (slices of potato wedges).

Fish and chips became a stock meal among the working classes in the United Kingdom as a consequence of the rapid development of trawl fishing in the North Sea, and the development of railways which connected the ports to major industrial cities during the second half of the 19th century, which meant that fresh fish could be rapidly transported to the heavily populated areas.

In chip shops in the United Kingdom and Ireland, salt and vinegar is traditionally sprinkled over fish and chips at the time it is served.

Succulent and fresh, the cod at Fish Central is full of thick, white juicy flakes and a nice crispy batter on the outside. Truly, the golden standard of fish and chips in London.

We only tried Fish and Chips once on our London trip. From what we read and heard, most of the fish and chip shops in London are pretty much the same with near identical ingredients. But the Chowzter gang took a long walk to Fish Central in a quiet residential area on a Sunday afternoon. The restaurant has been around for over 50 years and they have a great reputation. The plate of fish and chips was gigantic, other bloggers couldn’t believe how much food was on the plate but for Alli and I, it looked like another Buffalo fish fry.

Possibly the best fish and chip shop in London! This place is always packed with locals. Fish Central is a firm favourite of mine, due to the lovely waiting staff and the amazing food. I usually go for the traditional cod or haddock which is always cooked perfectly, and chips in batter with chips, mushy peas and a sliced gherkin in the side. They offer a huge range of other fish dishes, delicious scallops and oysters for starters and scampi and seafood spaghetti. You can also get all the dishes to takeaway. Always a great dining experience!

Took my family here on our last night in London. Food was brilliant. The staff was incredible. Their fish and chips would be hard to beat. Definitely worth and extra tube exchange or cab ride to this local friendly establishment.

Very quiet which is a shame. Food was good, and good value. The calamari would be better on a flat plate rather than a bowl as it was greasy at the bottom. Good fish and chips.

Early dinner, didn't wait to be seated. Started w/appetizer of grilled scallops. Cooked as I asked, delicious. Main entrees was grilled salmon. Salmon arrived cooked ro my specifications however no seasoning. I added lemon & salt to taste. Staff was very attentive, chef even came to the table. Visiting from the States but would eat here again.

I had the absolute pleasure of celebrating my birthday last night at Fish Central. From the word go the they were the definition of accommodating, the food was cooked excellently, portions were generous and the waiting staff were totally charming. It's hard to find places that still do it like Fish Central does it in London. Thanks for making it such a memorable night, I will definitely be back. Much love.
