The Wilmington has a great location in Clerkenwell and some nice indoor and outdoor seating options with a pretty broad range of food and drink options. We came in for the Sunday Roast which was great and probably one of the best that I've had in London, my only gripe being that the Yorkshire pudding was slightly overdone. Our waitress was lovely and friendly, but the blonde female bartender was rather dour and unpleasant and made her misery glaringly obvious in her service. Despite this, our dinner was nice and we would definitely return.
It’s Monday morning. Still smiling and happy from a good weekend, what better way to extend that weekend feeling than with a pub lunch? . OpenTable recently published a list of “London’s top 10 gastro pubs” based on diner reviews. One of them – The Wilmington – is just off Exmouth Market in the Farringdon/Clerkenwell area. It’s handy for work so I’d put it straight on LardButty’s “to try” list. And today seems like the day...
A really nice gastropub with a varied menu and good list of specials. Portion size could have been bigger for the fish mains and the cocktails were a little steep on price but other than this I'd definitely return to eat and test the desserts!
Two of us were walking down the road on a Friday evening, and were surprised to find a pub which was relatively empty, since all the other places we passed by were filled to overflowing.
Thus assured of a table, we walked in; ordered a pint of Dark Star Hophead, and seated ourselves in a cozy nook by the door. Upon examining our surroundings at leisure, we discovered an older mix of patrons, with more people drinking wine than normally found at other pubs. I assume this is because of the proximity to Exmouth Market with an ample choice of fine eating establishments. Our curiosity regarding the presence of a mature crowd explained, we proceeded to finish our beer, and set off in search of dinner.
It looked like a nice place to begin the afternoon or evening with a glass of wine before heading to the market for a meal.
They do seem to have a reasonable selection of wine. A Merlot, and a Beaujolais of not very old vintage looked interesting and not too expensive, and I plan on returning one of these evenings for a taste of wine followed by a nice meal at the market.
Went here for dinner with Huawei South Africa. It's a gastropub, which I'm told means food is more fancier than regular pub food. I was definitely impressed with the plating, but the service not so much. Sure we were a large group but there should've been another waiter assisting and making sure we were ok. We had to call the waiter to take orders etc; should've been more on the ball. I had haddock croquets as a starter, was so hungry at this point I didn't have time to take pics haha. And my main was a fish cake with garlic mash (which I asked for instead of cabbage) on lobster biqsue. Meal was large, couldn't finish it but good! Highly recommended.
Visiting and wanted to try some traditional English pub food. The scotch egg was delicious! Very crispy and perfectly seasoned outside, meat was excellent and a great texture and the egg was ooey gooey goodness. Very tasty. Opted for the chicken roast - generous serving. Extra gravy provided with no fuss. Cauliflower cheese very moreish and satisfying cheese pull. Beef could have been rarer but was lovely and tender. Service was super friendly. Dessert we went with sticky toffee pud and it hit in the spot. Yummy and satisfying Sunday lunch
Had a meal with friends here, the food was insane. Service was so good but not intrusive! Would recommend to anyone, steaks are 10/10
What a sensational pub this is. Well above average. Made better by the staff. Oppie looked after my group of 16 for a dinner and the service was outstanding and the food was magnificent. Certainly restaurant quality. Do not miss this venue. It's the best thing for miles.
If you haven’t tried a roast here yet, you need to… bangin’! Great welcome, great service, great food, highly recommend the place… many thanks to Graeme and the whole team, and especially Elizabeth 🙂
Wow ! I came with my partner and we both had the roast chicken and shared a sticky toffee pudding … both were absolutely gorgeous! 😍 and what amazing service from the lovely Elizabeth who was more then happy to help with anything we needed ! Thank you so much and can’t wait to come back
A table had been booked for the 9 of us at 1pm on a Saturday. We we greeted by friendly and very professional staff who kept smiling through our lunch. We stayed for a long time and never felt rushed.
Orders were taken from the menu, attached to this review. I went for a starters, main and pudding. Not everyone did.
The range of beer was good, real ales and craft beers. Not outrageously expensive for a London pub.
I heard no complaints about the food. Mine was delicious as was the red wine.
The waitresses had to put up with taking pictures of us
Decent pub, plenty of room and do a quiz night every Sunday! They also serve food until quite late which is great. The house red wasn't actually too bad which can sometimes be a bit of a surprise. They had plenty of options. Smelt a bit of wet dog when I was there but probably the weather so won't hold it against them.
Overall, good pub, nice dining area and worth visiting for a pint
Pretty decent space with nice outdoor seating. Toilets are a bit grimy but they’ll do! Bar area and indoor seating is really nice, and especially great in the sunshine.
We went for dinner before going to Sadler’s Wells. First time eating there and it will not be the last one.
There were 4 of us, we were seated in the restaurant area, it’s very modern and fresh. The staff were extremely attentive, good selection of drinks and the food was great. The menu is very varied and so much more exciting than a standard pub menu.
The Wilmington will now be our go to for dinner before going to the theatre.
Good fun pub with really good vibes. I had their vegan burger and fries - pretty great. I would definitely recommend this place for a quick pint or Sunday roast.
