My obsession with afternoon tea continues. Don’t tell anyone, but it was only in 2014 when I experienced my first ever afternoon tea (shock I know) and ever since then I just can’t get enough of this British past time. The idea of an afternoon tea or high tea, first came about in the 1800’s when a lady named Anna – The Duchess of Bedford, complained of “having that sinking feeling” during the late afternoon. Anna wanted something simply to satisfy her afternoon hunger and see her through till dinner time.
Such an amazing place for an afternoon tea with your beloved ones.
The afternoon tea menu includes a wide range of options that tastes really good and presented in a beautiful way.
My friend had booked the Library Lounge online and was completely and utterly excited to blow bubbles and drink tea. I didn't have the heart to explain what bubble afternoon tea meant in England. However, I did think he got the jist of it when we entered an olden library to see two old ladies having their weekly catch up and quietly munching on their scones. We were seated by the window, which yes, hosts a view of the Thames and Big Ben (if you really bend your back). Nonetheless, it was a beautiful view. The cakes were standard, nothing wow-ing, but they were very nicely made, perfect balance of crunch and cream. The pops were exciting, I mean it's popping candy... how is that not exciting. Scones were very nice and crumbly, we had an awesome debate on cream first or jam first. I won. It's always cream first.
The sandwiches, well, I'm surprised they had any left, we kept asking for more and more and more and more... you get the idea. They were great.
The bubbles, well, unlimited sparkling wine, who can complain?
The real bubbles however, was my surprise, I brought my own bubbles for my wonderful friend, the joy on his face made it one of the best afternoon teas I've been to.
It's a top notch place! All the biscuits and both scones were good! The view was stunning.
Bora Bora tea was excellent.
Great customer service! Our waiter (Chandra) was very attentive.
We couldn't finish it all and we were given boxes to put the leftovers in.
I will definitely go back.
A absolutely wonderful place for afternoon tea! My group had both the Vegan & Regular options & both tasted delicious. There was a wide array of tea to select. Even those of didn’t like tea were able to find a blend they enjoyed. We also had the sparkling wine option which surprisingly wasn’t needed, the tea was perfect on it own. My group loved the experience so much we tried going back a second time! You absolutely do need a reservation in advance or at least to call ahead.
This has become a London Tradition for me...You certainly can't beat the views and the atmosphere is just perfection if you are looking for a quiet and classy afternoon tea this one is a great option. Also for about 16 GBP more than the regular cost you can get "bottomless bubbles" and the staff will ensure that you never have less than half of a glass. The food is also good, with plenty of sandwiches and desserts. The scones and clotted cream are also a favorite.
Decided to indulge in a good afternoon tea at The Library.
Great setting and nice view of Big Ben. The downside of having a great view is enduring the heat from the sun.
Food is OK and portions are big. A good selection of tea is available (you can try all the teas).
I booked an afternoon tea at the Library as we were attending Wintess for the Prosecution which takes place in the County Hall building. 5pm is the latest booking. The entrance to the team room is from Westminster Bridge Road, opposite St Thomas Hospital. It takes only 8 minutes walk from Waterloo station and of course similar short walk from Big Ben just across the Westminster Bridge if you are coming from that side.
At the entrance you are greeted by friendly staff who guides you to the tea room.
The Library is quintessentialy british and with beautiful views of Big Ben, just try to get a table by the window. If not busy, the staff is accommodating to move you to another table if you want better seats. The afternoon tea is £55 per person + service charge. If you opt for bottomless champagne it is £71.
The presentation is very nice with a large tea selection. The sandwiches were nothing special (some tasted a bit dry) and I tasted much better ones in other places. However, what you pay for is the atmosphere and the views. The scones were nice and lemon curd delicious. Cakes very nice and creamy. You can ask to get them packed if you do not finish them all.
Great place to take photos, also in the corridor and outside.
Had a lovely time getting tea and vegan pastries and sandwiches. The room was beautiful and the view was amazing. Very pleased that they had an entire vegan selection for afternoon tea.
Amazing view on the Elizabeth Tower (Big Ben) from the library. Great atmosphere with all the book cases and books and our afternoon tea was nice. The scones were perfect, the sweets were really good, the sandwiches could have bit a bit better but the overall experience was superb.
The most amazing experience ever. Memories I made with my friend which I will cherish forever. The service was amazing, they catered to our dietary needs, superb view and every single thing was delicious. We chose the Earl grey tea and Ceylon. Definitely coming back and it's worth every penny.
We met friends for afternoon Tea on a weekday here, it was fairly busy so I’m glad we had a reservation. The pastries, sandwiches and tea were delicious, the atmosphere and the view was unbeatable and the service was fast. We didn’t get the Prosecco or any add ons and our bill was higher than anticipated, so it is quite pricey.
One can never finish the decadent food items with tea that is served up at this place. I made the mistake of ordering a tea service (as a replacement for lunch) but I finished may be 60% of the food. The food is very good and rich. I took close to 2 hours to enjoy the extraordinary view and finish the tea service. The service is great here and I wish they have a smaller version of the same tea service. I found everyone boxing the leftovers. Also, this is on the expensive side - but I can see why with the view and all that.
