Atmosphere good
Food are fresh and yummy
Prices are reasonable
Service is good
Comparing with other indian restaurants in London I suggest this one
Authentic Indian food & indo Chinese if you remember that Indian Chinese van fooo, try once.Even in the party buffet you can enjoy the same food.
We visited Chettinad today and what a lovely place! We had been looking for a good south Indian restaurant and we found this little gem! Waiter Arun was very welcoming and very friendly. The food was delicious and so very reasonably priced. We would definitely return without a doubt when we are in the area again.
Since I'm from India I understand how Indian food is supposed to be. This is not how South Indian food ideally tastes. However said that, Indians who are missing home and other people who wanna try Indian food, this is a good place.
Excellent India food in the heart of the city. We had ordered for mutton biryani, prawns, their thali. Quality and quantity of food is very good. The service is also pretty nice.
OMG! Finally an Indian restaurant in London that I can whole heartedly recommend. Until now whenever a non-Indian friend in London has asked me where they can get good Indian food in central London, I answer some version of "an Indian home"
Chettinad as their name suggests, focuses on the food from the Chettinad region of Southern India. It's almost 85% there in authenticity. Spices have been subdued from this fiery cuisine, but the complexity of flavours is still present.
The staff is very comfortable with their menu and love explaining the subtle differences to non-Indian visitors. From what I could hear at our neighbouring tables, they were quite accurate too.
They are very very good with allergies, recommending I avoid the fried fish as it was fried in the same oil as the prawns (which I'm allergic to)
The thali is always a great choice in an Indian restaurant, giving you a little bit of everything. We also loved the chicken biryani.
Let the wait staff know your spice tolerance and protein choices and let them recommend the best combination for you.
The food was excellent and I can see us going back here multiple times.
Really great lunch special! My Vegan friend was accommodated too. The staff is so sweet and friendly. As you walk in you can smell how delicious the food is!
Service was great, staff friendly.
Loved the food as well. We had the gobhi 65 and the Mysore masala dosa. Appropriately spicy not overly so. Would recommend just for the dosa and sambal alone. Best to make reservations as it was quite crowed.
One of the proper south indian restaurants in central london. Even though this is from a place famous for non vegetarian cuisine, their vegetarian options are pretty good. Also the masala chai was on point.
Nice place, good food!
I dont know what to write anymore.. Mmm..
The waiters were very nice. I recommend taking a 23 spices lamb. That's it!
We popped in for a quick lunch on a weekend and it was surprisingly empty - they are apparently busier during dinner so I've been told...
We ordered the Plain Dosa and Onion Rava Masala Dosa which was filled with potato masala and served with coconut chutney and sambar. We ordered one main curry dish to share which was the Chettinadu Aadu - a lamb dish cooked in traditional Chettinadu masala.
The portions were big enough for the both of us and we both particularly enjoyed the Onion Rava Masala Dosa (tasty and also really filling!)
Food was good, although I have to say that service was quite slow considering that there was only us and another table with two people.
I would visit again if I ever needed another South Indian food fix.
My friend took me here and she was a regular here and loved this place. We received a warm welcome by the staff and I really liked the menu. We ordered from the main menu. We had a soup for starters and it had a very different taste which was so great. For mains we had a lamb dish cook in traditional south Indian style and lamb cubes cooked in rich gravy and onions. I really liked the way they had described every dish’s description under. We loved the food; it was mouth watering and had great taste. I am definitely going to a regular here.
This place has the best south Indian food. I tried this place with a friend of mine few days ago and I am planning to visit this again soon. We had the lunch special deals and it was so reasonably and great. I loved the dosa. It was big and great. The staff is lovely and attentive. I can blindly recommend this place.
I went here with a group of friend yesterday and we all were totally impressed by this place. Staff was lovely and really helpful, explained us about the menu and made recommendations. We all had their set meals and it was great. We loved it. I especially liked the fish meen curry, it was delicious. We had great meals and we would definitely come back.
When in doubt in a south Indian restaurant just order the thali and you won't go wrong, and certainly not in this hidden gem off totenham court Rd.
Lunch thali recommended!
I feel Chettinad is a bit of a hidden gem. The food is very authentic and there is plenty of options to choose from. The service is fantastic and the atmosphere is great. I really would recommend this place if you appreciate Indian cuisine.
Really enjoyed our visit here...dosa good, and the Lamb Chettinad was very nicely spiced. Good service, good atmosphere, and reasonably priced.
I had heard about chettinad from a few friends and finally decided to check it out. I was just disappointed I didn't know about this place earlier.
The food is really good especially the chicken curries and the seafood curries. It's made in true South Indian style - both very spicy and very flavourful. They do have dosas on the menu as well, but I would advice sticking to the curries instead just because the latter is harder to find in London especially good quality ones like they have here.
We went on a Friday night without a reservation, and we had no problem to get a table in the restaurant.
The servers are present, and offer to help if we need to explain the dishes.
Very good food with curry, with rice and an Indian bread
Only black note, they do not have NAAN (traditional Indian bread)
You eat in a cozy atmosphere,
I will return in this restaurant soon.
I am a fan of South Indian food. Have eaten the authentic stuff in South India. So was curious to find the food quality here. It was reassuringly busy but the service was excellent and swift. The food was of a very decent quality. Enjoyed the Chettinad Thali very much. Nice flavours and the prices were slightly on the higher side. Overall a good experience.

I went there twice because I enjoyed it so much! For lunch there is a very reasonably priced At dinner, I had an excellent mango lassi and samosa, along with the Chettinad Chicken. I highly recommend this place. The one improvement that could be made is the speed of service. They are very friendly and I will be visiting them regularly.
Interesting menu, offers unpretentious, good quality, fresh and delicious food.
Went last night with a visitor from overseas. The service was impeccable: personal, enthusiastic and generous-hearted. Recommendations were spot-on. We wanted a restaurant that was not uncomfortably 'posh' or formal, reasonable in price but that was special, gracious and satisfying in quality and service. This is quite a tough call in London, let alone in Fitzrovia. I'm delighted to say that Chettinad more than delivered! The food was delicious, Southern Indian cuisine, subtly spiced and generous. We had vegetarian thali and chicken dishes; the restaurant was more than happy to make up a special combo for us at no extra charge. It was clear that our pleasure in the meal was important to the waiters and owners, and we enjoyed a wonderful meal and evening. The dining room is comfortable and spacious, the atmosphere conducive to conversation and joyful dining.
Very happy to recommend.
A lovely restaurant specialising in South Indian food with extremely friendly and attentive staff. It has a very relaxed atmosphere and there's always plenty of space to find a table. The huge variety of food is all very well prepared and served in moderately sized portions. It is a great place to discover some of the nuanced culinary culture of India and be sure to talk to the staff and obtain their recommendations if you're not feeling confident.
Delicious South Indian food in London. Probably made with Indian spices by Indian chefs. Food has the authentic south Indian feel and taste. The presentation is good. Delays can be expected during peak times. For large groups advance reservation is advisable. Interior is well designed to make the South Indian atmosphere but there's limited seating.
We were a large group and wanted to have separate bills, which wasn't entertained by the staff. At the end it was a hassle to locate each one's food and charge accordingly. Resulted in an unpleasant customer experience. A definite area for improvement.
Overall it was a reasonably good experience thanks to the quality food.
The food was great, the servers were all friendly without being overbearing. The food was out quickly (we were there during a slow time tho). We really enjoyed everything~ Would recommend it!
Exceptional. The Pilao had such fragrance. The lamb i had was so tender but the curry was so so good.
The parantha was a bit chewy but very good and the aubergine was quite a small portion and very spicy hence 4 stars. I would say visit. Experience it.
The decor and staff were excellent. Really great ambience.
Other than accidentally handing me the wrong bill (which they were quick to rectify) it was brilliant and ill be back.
We came to London from The Netherlands for our summer vacation and we were searching for nice restaurants all over the Google and finally decided to try at Chettinad restaurant.
The food is amazing. I felt like I am in India with the taste. We thoroughly enjoyed all the dishes served by Prashob 😊 he is so friendly and helpful with my children. Thank you for the amazing food and the service.
Keep up the quality and you will raise more.
We had the Gobi 65, Masala Dosa, Kathrika Kara Kulambu and Kilangu Bonda.
Our favourite dish was the Kathrika Kara Kulambu.
Service was fine, food came out reasonably quick and was delicious.
Overall, an enjoyable dining experience.
Delicious food! Really really enjoyable. Plus lovely service and waiting staff who were happy to talk through the menu. Would recommend!
An amazing place with lip smacking south Indian food. i had the sea food thali and my friend had the non vegetarian thali. both came with a great selection of curries, rice and bread. the rasam is to die for - which speaks volumes, since despite the simple nature of the dish very few restaurants nail it, and Chettinad is one that does. the wait staff is helpful and will explain the menu of need be. Go for the food!!
First time in my life I had the real South Indian food outside India.
Totally authentic food and ambience.
Congratulations to the Chettinad team to keep the Indian tradition alive in London

Absolutely brilliant food, kind service and relaxing atmosphere. A lovely waiter even gave us coffee on the house. Highly recommend.
Authentic, delicious and the tastiest food I have eaten in central london !! We had the chicken and fish starters and took the seafood and veggie thali. The chicken was crispy with the right level of spice 😋. The seafood thali was the most delicious 😋. It’s a must try !! Highly recommend this place and especially if you are around central london, this is easy access from Tottenham Court Road. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Have heard about Chettinad cuisine a lot but never got to try it. So decided to give this place a go.
Be sure to get mesmerised by the beautiful aroma of the food the moment you enter the restro.
The menu is amazing and offers a wide array of food. We ordered the Thalis as felt that’s the best way to try multiple dishes.
Portion is thali is well above average, so make sure you have a good appetite 😬
We started with some Rasam and papads and then the mains and desserts come in a thali.
Food was delicious. Loved every bit of it.
Ambiance is good, takes you back home 🫠
All in all, a lovely visit. Would defo love to visit again. Recommend it if you are fan of South Indian cuisine.
Would surely visit
Great place! I’ve never had this style of Indian food before and my waiter was very helpful with suggesting items to pair with the dish. Would suggest if you want to try a different style of Indian.
Nice restaurant tucked away close to Goodge Street station as well as Tottenham Court Road. Ambience and decor is unique, staff are also friendly and courteous. Some dishes were really good, Gobi 65 and the chocolate dosa were amazing. Some of the other portions were small like the Paneer Chukka, the mutter paneer had hardly any paneer and the mango lassi was a small glass which was a little dissapointing for the price paid.
Great Experience.
Kumar is best waiter and his recommendations are even better.
Met Chef Abdul Raheem - He is food magician.
We had a lovely family get together in London with really authentic and tasty curries, both lamb and chicken were great.
We had Thali and finished with Halwa, one of my favourite Indian desserts and it was really delicious.
As a former judge for Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine I can say this was a highly rated dining experience.
My only criticism was the instant espresso that was served which one does not expect after such a lovely meal… it was taken off the final bill, but honestly if you have a proper coffee machine please only serve proper espresso.
Thank you all for a lovely evening.
Our second meal here within a short space of time. Can't fault the food or service.
I love the Masala Dosa and the Chettinadu Kolli (chicken) and Kathrika Kara Kullambu (aubergine) complement each other well. We'll certainly be back again before too long.
Superb experience in every regard. I had a chicken dosa - the flavors were spot on. The Sambar was flavorful, and the coconut chutney perfect.
Authentic South Indian cuisine and a restaurant with a story to tell. Both the food and service were excellent, Jey and the whole team guarantee a friendly service. I recommend! 👌🏻
Well, what can I say?! It's an unfair game. A place that sells Dosa is in another league by my standards. And the dosa here is one of the best I've had for the past 10 years.
Apart from that, or better said, in addition, the service is simply fantastic. From the moment you enter the restaurant until the moment the door closes behind you, every single one over there is doing his best to make sure you have the best time ever.
From all other places I've dined in London, this one is simply the best.
In the photos, the before and after that tells the story in full.
