A wonderful reminder of those lovely Parisian wine bars, even down to the large blackboard on the wall, with a map of France showing the location of the vineyards relating to the available wines, and the other typically French decorations.
Bar seating at the front of the premises and relatively limited table seating at the rear, but very authentic ambience, with most of the staff appearing to be French and an interesting and varied menu. All food well cooked, and presented with Parisian flair and finesse from a reasonably varied menu, resulting in a thoroughly enjoyable evenig meal.
Visited Chez Elle's twice while visiting London and staying in Brick Lane. Once for Brunch and once for Dinner. The welcome was warm, the food amazing and the service first class. The only average thing about Chez Elle's is the prices. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.
Nothing is better than a meal at Chez Elles in my opinion. From the ambience (think Parisienne/Lyonnais Bistro) to the offerings (well priced and well made), I love everything about this joint.
Perhaps the best part of all is that it's located in an area one wouldn't think to visit for great french food. This has the bonus of keeping out the hipsters who love visiting the area a few streets over.
my favourite dishes are:
- cassoulet
- boudin blanc
- almond pie
- bavette
Amazing food, excellent staff and completely gluten free. Stumbled upon it a walking down brick lane whilst looking for a lunch hangout, but just ended up eating cake! Coeliac's paradise, can't wait to come back ❤️😍
We often visit this place for lunch mostly and this place is just amazing. Small but very beautifully managed and decorated. Staff is lovely and friendly. Menu is really good, for lunch, brunch and dinner. I loved the steaks here, they are just amazing. This place is a must try, you won’t be disappointed.
We had dinner here last week and it was an experience worth remembering. Staff was efficient and polite. Menu was nice. We had pane lamb steak and a rib eye steak, both were generous in portions and were amazing in taste. Exceptional service, great food, great ambience, and these things you want for a meal to enjoy and we had it. We would love to come back here and would definitely recommend it to others
We had dinner here on weekend and it was great experience. Menu was extensive and really good. I had goat cheese salad for starter and it was really good. For mains we had lamb steak with parmesan and grilled homemade rib eye steak. Both item looked really great and they were good in portions. My friend said it was the best lamb steak he had lately and it was true. Loved the ambience here, we are definitely returning.
Chez Elles is definitely worth a visit if you’re around Brick Lane or Spitalfields – a delicious, kitschy gem hidden among the sea of curry houses. We stopped in on our way to a concert at the All Saint’s Church in Spitalfields (the Camden Symphony Orchestra – they’re playing Handel’s Messiah next) for a quick bite. Chez Elles were able to accommodate the six of us at 6pm, but we were told the table was booked from half eight.
Chez Elles is a very unique, quirky restaurant. The restaurant is filled with antique hotchpotch bits and bobs but, somehow, it works really well and gives the place great character. The lighting is very dim and romantic and sets a good mood. The staff are incredibly friendly and French, which I loved, and the whole place has a laid-back casual feel. The food unfortunately though was a bit hit-and-miss for us. The snails were good, but a little oily/greasy, the duck rillette was a little bland, the steak tartare had a very bizarre texture indeed, although the chips and vegetarian tart were delicious. The highlight for me was the puddings. The chocolate mouelleux was rich and decadent and super tasty. I had a lovely evening there but I'm not sure I will be returning any time too soon sadly!
Chez Elles stood out from the crowd with its French name and impressive number of happy heads that could be spotted on the other side of the glass. We took our investigative skills one step further, peering closer at the appealing quintessentially French menu and tucking the cute name into the back of our minds for some internet research...once we got home. As a result, we made a reservation...
Delightful food and staff. At the Algate East end of brick lane is an absolute gem. Chez Elles. Not only are the staff here absolutely stunning, but the service they provide is excellent. Caring about every little detail and ensuring you receive an authentic French dining experience, in London. The food is impeccable - particularly the goat's cheese salad, the mussels and...well...everything we tried. Do yourself a favour and eat there sometime soon.
Last week, I went back to my favourite restaurant in Brick Lane...Chez Elles Bistroquet. (See previous review HERE) I hadn't been for so long, it was good to see that nothing had changed apart from some waiters-waitresses (but this is kind of normal in hospitality industry). I went for dinner with my sister and a friend who just moved to live in the UK. We hadn't seen our friends for 7 years, so we thought having a French dinner to catch up at Chez Elles could be a great idea to feel like we were in France.
My friend found the place very cute and French, she was very happy and in admiration of the bread basket when our waiter brought it to the table.
My friend and I ordered the confit duck with Reblochon cheese gratin dauphinois, it was sublime, the reblochon gave a little wintery touch to the dish. Just missing a glass of vin chaud (mulled wine) and some snow outside to feel like in the Pyrénées. The duck was perfectly cooked with crispy skin.

My sister had a beef tartare served with French fries. I ate this beef tartare at least four times since the restaurant opened in 2012. It is one of my favourite beef tartare in London, I like the way they mince the meat with a knife and it is perfectly seasoned.
For dessert, my friend and sister had a Café Liégeois. My sister tried to ask our waiter if he could do a "Café Liégeois without coffee", her point was to have a Chocolat Liégeois instead...but apparently they don't do that or the waiter didn't get it. She had instead mascarpone ice cream in her dessert instead of coffee ice cream. At the end it didn't really change the dessert as there was coffee in it anyway. She didn't like it while our friend loved it.
I ordered their crème brulée vanilla- pistachio as I knew from experience I wouldn't be disappointed, and I wasn't. Perfectly balanced dessert between pistachio and vanilla.
We spent two and half hours having one main and a dessert mostly because we spoke a lot but also because we didn't want to leave the restaurant. I always feel so comfortable in Chez Elles, their team is always very nice and so welcoming. It is always a pleasure to come back.

Chez Elles were able to accommodate the six of us at 6pm, but we were told the table was booked from half eight.
The decor in Chez Elles is eclectic and adorable – the birdcages, plates and framed vintage prints, along with the loveseat in the corner and French tunes are the stuff of instagram dreams. It has a really nice atmosphere, and with a lot of conversation pieces it’s the kind of place that would work well for a meal out with friends or a first date. I also thoroughly enjoyed the mismatching cutlery and plates – it added to the character of the place: life is far too short for matching sets.
We went straight for the mains in order to make good time to make the show, though I was particularly tempted by the Foie Gras. The service was friendly and helpful, which is always a bonus, particularly for Brick Lane (in my experience) and when it comes to French cuisine (also from experience).
Always a fan of anything raw, I went for the tartare de boeuf et frites maison, or steak tartar. I also find it tends to be a ‘safe’ (gluten-free) choice, as flour tends to be rife in French cooking. It was seasoned beautifully, accompanied by a perfectly dressed salad and crisp frites. The best steak tartar I’ve had in London yet!
My fellow diners went for the special – lamb burger – and classic French staple moules marinieres. I only sampled the latter – and I found the sauce was creamy and rich, simple and delicious.
Chez Elles have really nailed it – a charming vibe, excellent food, great location – which is a refreshing change from the increasingly anonymous monotony of Brick Lane curry houses (though I’m open to recommendations). It was an absolute pleasure. The only vague criticism had by the table was one I hear almost every time – the usual grouching about eating off of slate trays instead of plates. Not a problem for me, although admittedly their collection of crockery is infinitely more charming.
Again, due to time we only stayed for a coffee – but like the Terminator, I’ll be back (for Creme Brulee).
The bistroquet was opened last June by two French girls in the heart of Brick Lane. It displays a cute girly decor whose every detail has been meticulously chosen and groomed, with many symbols making reference to Paris. Service is run by the two friendly owners who do everything to make you happy. The warm welcome makes it the best spot to chill out on a Sunday afternoon with friends.

Has to be one of my favourite restaurants in London. Atmosphere great, food amazing.
We always do family style here as it’s all good.
Recommend the snails, beef tartare, duck, steak. Fries are amazing, as is the wine and cocktails.
This is my favorite restaurant in London. Amazing and very tasty food (which is not always easy to find in London) ! Rillettes de canards, soufflé au Comté, confit de canard and creme brûlée are a must. Went there again for my birthday and we had the most lovely serveur! Atmosphere is very French eclectic and cool. Definitely recommend !
Amazing food, great stuff, what more can I ask for. Literally one of my favorite restaurant in London
Very cozy French restaurant on legendary brick lane. I believe run by two French ladies. It’s best do a reservation. The entire place has a very mainland European vibe. Music and food were amazing. It’s set in a very trendy area, right behind Spittalfield market as well as right below Shoreditch. So plenty of places for a drink afterwards. I’ll definitely be back.
Really great place for a nice dinner as a couple or small group. Food was incredible and service was good.
I really loved the food! It tasted super authentic and homemade, especially the fries and the mayo DELICIOUS! The only reason I didn’t give five stars is because we didn’t get any bread which usually comes for free in French restaurants and the duck confit lacked a bit of side dishes… I thought it came with gratin dauphinois but it was more a spoon of mash potato. Besides that the cheese soufflé was DIVINE, I absolutely recommend it! The beef was cooked to perfection and came with the delicious fries! And finally, the crème brûlée with a hint of pistachio was creamy and light, don’t forget to order that one!
This French Bistro is a hidden gem in East London. Authentic French cruines with reasonable price. Very good service and attentive to the customers, plus lovely decorations. It’s a nice place to go when you fancy some French foods. I’ve been here 3 times, love this place very much, highly recommend!
Cozy and pleasant French place, we enjoyed very much the table under the flowers! Great food! Ideal for a romantic dinner !
The nice little French place, with a pure Paris atmosphere !!!
Very good food, and very peoples in there.. very good welcome… highly recommended !
This beautiful French restaurant in brick lane is very different to everything else in the area! Nice rustic-chic decor and very cozy, with friendly staff and delicious food, whether it is for a casual lunch or a special dinner, Chez elles is definitely worth the visit. Besides, who can cook steak better than the French? If you’re a fan of French cuisine you can’t miss this place!
Small French restaurant with great food and service. The cheese souffle was delightful. The wine wasn't expensive but it wasn't great either.
Went for my GF birthday. Amazing food, good service, but only thing quite pricy wine and not the best. Overall great little spot for date nights!
Friendly restaurant with beautiful ambience that it seems slightly out of place in around Brick Lane. :) Service was great. Food was huge, but duck confit and Croque Monsieur tasted average. The dinner menu may be better?
Lovely experience of all the French classics. Lovely helpful staff, great atmosphere, delicious food.
The onion soup, the beef tartare, the frog legs, the creme brûlée were all amazing.
Though I prefer the snails to be served in their shell rather than out of shell submerged in the garlic butter sauce, but that may just be a matter of preference.
Still, an outstanding French food experience in an intimate space.
Truly excellent bistro.
Simple, elegant French food, done to perfection.
Not the first time I've visited, and certainly not the last.
They don't update their menu very often, but it's all good.
The French Onion Soup is like a hug in a bowl.
Super friendly staff and nice cosy atmosphere. The snails and onglet were great. I wish there was some more choice on the menu. Otherwise a solid choice for French food.
We really like this place. Food is good, staff very polite and decor is stylish.
