You know those mornings. The ones that follow the Big Night Before. The ones where actually getting out of bed is painful. It was on one of those mornings that I set off across London to Dirty Bones on Kensington Church Street. Teetering my way along on the Underground I did wonder why I’d said yes. It might have been the promise of bottomless prosecco or dirty mary mixing – by now, it seemed foolish in the extreme. ...
To celebrate Mr. Hyde's National Burger Day on August 24 (I'm sure it's made up just for self promotion, but I suppose I was suckered in), there was a widespread discount of 20% on burgers throughout London. It made it difficult to choose between so many, but for a year I had my eye on the Mac Daddy at Dirty Bones. Considering I had to be at Liverpool Street Station in the late afternoon, there was no better reason to make it there.
One of London’s most popular spots for brunch is Dirty Bones – the chain has spots in London and New York, and is many people’s venue of choice for over-the-top burgers, fried chicken, cocktails and everything in between.
Once upon a time, Dirty Bones invited me to take part in an epic eating challenge for this blog along with one of my favourite bloggers Katy. We embarrassed ourselves with a feeble attempt at their 'Mac Attack challenge' and I'm pretty sure I've spent the last year and a half trying to work off all the food we devoured that night.
Dirty delicious and fun. The bloody mary with pringle rim is divine. I had the dirty mary salad (yes with my bloody mary) and the lamb fries. Ridiculously good!
Dirty Bones specialises in American style sticky meat dishes from burgers and short rib to fried chicken and waffles. Luckily for me, a new branch opened a few months ago in Shoreditch (Bethnal Green Road, next to Beach Blanket Babylon). The restaurant has high ceilings and grand decorations – mirrors on the walls, old fashioned adverts and purple sofas across the walls.
Dirty Bones is a name which I’m sure most Londoners have heard of. You can find them at most major food festivals around town, in Kensington, the beautiful Kingly Court and they’ve now opened a new branch in Shoreditch. I must admit, I’ve visited the branch in Kingly Court for dinner and haven’t been blown away. Both because of the food and the dark underground-like interior. You’d think that due to its location, Dirty Bones Shoreditch would follow the same funky vibe. To my surprise, it was actually based in a beautiful and bright pub building with lots of natural light – the complete contrast to the Kingly Court branch. At first glance Dirty Bones also won major brownie points thanks to the USB sockets right next to the sofa seats. I’ve not seen a restaurant which accommodates USB cables by the seats before.
One hungover Sunday, we went for brunch. This is a story that should be told every weekend, surely. I’d already had a taste of Dirty Bones chicken and waffles at their Carnaby Street branch, so getting the chance to check out their newest opening in the heart of Shoreditch was pretty much a no-brainer. We were there quicker than you can say ‘avocado on toast’ (well, crumpets…find out more on that one in a bit!)
I was initially skeptical of a place called “Dirty Bones”. I’m not a huge fan of Shoreditch for a number of reasons, so when it was suggested I was a little hesitant. Upon visiting the Dirty Bones website my mind was changed instantly. Say what you want but a good website is half the sell for a restaurant. The menu looked packed full of delicious meals at sensible prices and best of all, HAPPY HOUR! Sign me up!

Dirty Bones Shoreditch takes over from the former occupants Les Trois Garcons interior design and restaurant. Dirty Bones marking their third territory on the map in East London. For the first time ever they have put together a New York inspired breakfast menu at their Shoreditch edition. Dirty Bones Shoredicth is located on Club Row in a Grade II listed building around the corner from Brick Lane; Shoreditch High Street overground station and Beach Blanket Babylon. It has a ground and lower ground floor and a large bar space. You can expect their usual late night fun of live music and DJ’s until the early morning.
I’m not gonna lie to you. I was super excited to be invited to go check out the new Dirty Bones in Shoreditch. I was searching the menu days before, trying to make up my mind on what to go for. The menu is extensive, offering up it’s own brunch options too, that sound divine may I add!. But this time, it was a dinner date, and you know what I love about a date, is that we can each order something different and that way get to try twice as much! Win, win!
Two very different experiences at Dirty Bones.
First experience going out for dinner. Everything was pretty good as far as the meal goes. Unfortunately it was spoilt by a large plastic shard that we found at the end of our milkshake. We are pretty stumped as to how the object got in the milkshake. The manager did remove the milkshake from the bill but considering that a lot of damage could have happened if I did manage to accidentally swallow the object it wouldn’t be good for their business and so was expecting a bit more compensation. Having said that The Mac Daddy burger was really good. Slightly disappointed with the chicken and waffles. The balance between sweet and salt wasn’t quite right.
Our brunch experience felt mixed. The pancakes didn’t quite hit the expectations. Enjoyed the blueberries in the pancakes but thought they were a bit dry. Definitely get the tater tots. They’re like balls of hash browns. We found the egg yolks to be overdone for the chicken and waffles and could have been more runny, but overall was good.
Definitely worth going but room for improvement
Pretty nice place, friendly staff, quick service and good food. We had chicken and waffles, MacDaddy and additional mac and cheese. Everything was delicious. Recommended!
Really cool venue with a decent menu. The Mac & Cheese starter was great while the burgers were decent enough if nothing to write home about (I'd have them again). The Cheesy fries were not that great as the sauce was very heavy (I thought it would be melted cheese).
Service was a bit odd as they tried to bring out the mains just after we got our starters...
Amazing vibe. Delicious Mains. Reasonable Prices and Great Location. Could be a bit more spacious and food could have been served hotter however understand that it was quite busy. Loved the food ESPECIALLY the Fried Doughnuts, absolutely heavenly!! And will definitely come back.
I hosted a group in London, we did a brunch outing at Dirty Bones restaurant. The service and food was good, I really loved the bottomless mimosas - definitely do the upgrade to the Prosecco. I was so hungry I forgot to take pics of the food.
It is a nice place and have more of a bar ambient than a restaurant wich fits to the style. Really good tasting small plates. Fun and unusual crossovers. Also, very nice porkribs.
Their desserts concludes the American theme.
Came with my boyfriend to try their Chicken and Waffle which is massively popular in America. I can say we were definelty not disappointed; although the mix of savoury and sweet is unusual it is amaaazing! Highly recommend. The staff were super friendly and it wasn’t too expensive.
We came here on a quiet Thursday afternoon, when we arrived it was only us in the restaurant but staff were SO friendly and accommodating! Elidon and Arif specifically. Thank you guys!
We ordered the cessation salad which did not disappoint, it was huge. Really nice chilled atmosphere, will definitely come back.
Food was amazing, wings are very delicious and the chicken and waffles fantastic combination . Only disappointing thing for me was . Still giving 5* was the creme egg waffle was very salty
We chilled in this rustic down to earth spot. The food touched our souls! Good presentation of entrée.
The staff are very friendly and accommodating as I had my children with me.
Lovely sticky sweet and sour ribs. Perfect chicken and waffles. My son enjoyed his chicken waffle bun.
My only gripe is the two flights of stairs for the restroom.
I visited with my mother and we were both very pleasantly surprised. They were very busy but found us a place for us regardless. The food arrived very quickly at a high, tasty quality. The mocktails were nice but very sweet, so while we really enjoyed them they won't be to everyone's tastes.
Great ambience and very good food. Got there a bit earlier than our booked time and were accommodated. Service could have been slightly quicker but was there at a busy time so understandable. Definitely recommend.
Came here for brunch and was very impressed! The food was delicious but more importantly, the service was exceptional!
We asked to order brunch food even though it was technically past brunch time and they said no problem! I also wanted to try both of the egg crumpets so they let me do one of each!! I hate restaurants that are unnecessarily difficult with accommodating requests so very pleased with this experience!
Amazing food!! Chicken and Waffles with a side of Mac n Cheese was perfect.
Decent prices, a chilled vibe, friendly staff and a cool old converted pub setting. My wife and I would definitely return.
We went for Wing Wednesday, definitely recommend. Staff were amazing, bar staff made great drinks and food came out in a timely manner.
Amazing service!!!
I booked as part of a Hen Do for 8 people and ended up running 15mins late which they were able to handle.
I also had a very quick turn around for the next event of the day, but they managed to get us all fed in more than enough time.
Not only was the service great but the food and drinks were delicious. Between us we tried a fair amount of the food and drinks - the mocktails were particularly good and so were the cheesy truffle fries.
Thank you again!
