I always have suspicions when it sounds like people’s names are used for restaurants.  It seems to make them sound like the local place around the corner to frequent constantly.  Friendly and honest food (I hate those words ‘honest food’.  Does that mean that everything else is fake?) in a familiar environment.  Just think about all those times when you liked to say that you visited “Tony’s”, “Gordon’s” or “Jamie’s”.  Well, at least the latter is soon to be gone.

Occasionally a few of us bloggers like to get together and enjoy a meal at someone’s chosen venue. Selected on the premise that they serve great food and have enough wines to satisfy our thirst it was the turn of Gary aka The Foodaholic to select. His chosen establishment was Augustine Kitchen, a French restaurant in Battersea that specialises in food from the Evian region. A lot of champagne was drunk and the food was

My friends booked this place for my surprise birthday party and I am happy that they made the right choice. Everything was so perfect. Service was impeccable it’s like we had private dining room experience.  Food was great and so were the wine; just amazing. Staff was so attentive they handled the larger group of people really well. Great relaxing atmosphere, great service and great food which were so reasonably priced. I loved my first experience here and I would love to try doe more of this great place.

I am a regular customer here. I and my colleague often visit this place. This place has the best French food around. The food has always been sensational and they have a brilliant wine list. Most of all, the place is very reasonably priced specially the set menus are incredible value.
Location is great and sitting management is very good. Everything is just so good about this place; it’s one of the best French restaurants I have been to. Definitely recommended!

One of the great things about being able to blog about what you love is that you get to meet like-minded people, and two years of writing about food have led me to some absolute sweethearts, who look at a Baked Alaska with exactly the same kind of need that I do. My tribe. Every month or so a group of us will meet up for food, drink and a natter, and this time round we find ourselves gathering for a lunch at Augustine Kitchen.

When it comes to eating out at the moment, my life has become a little crazy, impulsive and damn right greedy – not to mention the dreaded weight gain which comes with it. Being all so busy eating, drinking and writing about food however does have some perks (apart from the obvious). You get to meet interesting new people, top chefs and some influential critics – the weight gain is worth all of that alone. Another unexpected thing that happens is you end up finding yourself a “safe haven” where you can forget about everything and relax – for me that has become Augustine Kitchen. I may have written about this place twice before already but if you go back through the reviews, read the content and look at all the photos you’ll see just how far this restaurant and its head chef/owner Franck Raymond has come. A group of friends and bloggers alike all came here one saturday (through my demands) so I could show them exactly what they’re missing – plus it was an excuse to drink buckets of chilled Champagne at noon.

To give everyone a real feel of Augustine Kitchen, Franck created a special group menu for us all focusing on his home town, Savoie in France. Savoie (or Haute-Savoie for clarification) is located in the Rhone-Alps east of France. The region has a rich culture of good, honest food – featuring lots of cheese, charcuterie, meats and the rare but delicious fish – fera. I’m told they have some delicious wines too, especially those made with the roussette grape variety. Part of our gastronomic adventure here started us off with some lovely home-made bread and palate preparing amuse bouche. Our starter here was also true to its origins with a crozet “risotto”, girolles and Abondance cheese. I’d never eaten crozet pasta before: it’s a very small form of pasta made using wheat or buckwheat flour, with a firm texture. The girolles gave a lovely earthiness to the dish and the cheese well, it was cheese – need I say more? A lovely streak of tarragon ran through the dish like silk too and really married everything together. Admittedly this wasn’t the best dish I’ve ever eaten, but it was one which I’m so glad to have experienced, getting a real insight into what this fabulous and relatively unknown region of france has to offer.

One dish I’ve fallen in love with over my visits to Augustine Kitchen, is thankfully one which can always be found on the menu. Roast cod with black quinoa and orange reduction – it’s simply on another level and each mouthful  a gastrophiles dream. The pristine white cod was perfectly cooked, with one side very well browned and crisp – a hard task without overcooking the fish. The orange reduction however was what really turned this dish from a great one into a truly excellent one, full of sweet but delicate orange flavours. Every single mouthful of this delicious course broke down like butter melting in the mouth. I know I’ll probably tell you to order every single dish here but this one really needs to be right at the top of your list. A side of mash potato was also excellent, full of butter and drenched in extra virgin olive oil.

Before finishing off in to a food coma, cheese was up next and what a beautiful example it was. Tomme de Savoie is a cheese again from Franck’s home-town Savoie and is probably one of the more famous from this region. The cheese is made from raw, skimmed cow’s milk after the cream has been drained off to make butter. The maturing of the Tomme de Savoie takes a minimum of 2-4 months, during which time the cheese comes to develop its thick grey rind and pockets of air. Describing the cheese isn’t the easiest but think Brie mixed with Mahon and you’re almost there. We paired the cheese with far too many glasses of Champagne but it would go with just about anything – particularly a good red.

Nearing the end of our perfect lunch we finished off with what turned out to be the best baked alaska you’ll probably ever come across. I’ve eaten this dessert here before on a single person sized scale, but never divulged in a metre long version fit for twelve hungry diners. Franck’s fire lighting skills didn’t quite take off, but it was still every bit charred and crisp round the edges, revealing the soft gooey meringue inside. The roll itself looked picture perfect, full of raspberry ice cream and topped with a thick and luscious raspberry sauce. Simply put – order the baked alaska and you’ll never look at this 1980’s classic the same way again.

When I first visited Augustine Kitchen after it opened a couple of years ago now, I’ll always tell people the story of how I wasn’t immediately impressed, but then visited a further six months later and it was like eating in a completely different restaurant. Since then it’s got even better still. The restaurant for me used to be a good French brassiere but now it’s easily the best French restaurant in South-West London. Augustine Kitchen offers some fantastic value for money set-menus, fabulous service, great food and with the promise of some new interior additions and a freshly decorated exterior, I can’t think of any reason why you shouldn’t visit – it truly is one of London’s best hidden gems.

My husband took me here yesterday and I am totally impressed with this great place. Place was amazing, friendly staff, great sitting and it was so nicely decorated. For starts I had tartines of wild mushroom and it was amazing. for mains I had roast cod and it was incredible. It was presented beautifully and it tasted great. Amazing service I would say, for desserts we both had dark chocolate mousse and it was heavenly, great place and reasonably priced. we had a great time. Definitely recommended!

So i had that rare opportunity recently of going back to a restaurant which i dined at last year, and said i wouldn't be returning too. Everything i ate last year looked clumsy on the plate, attention to detail was minimal and things just didn't leave me longing for them again. But something unprecedented has happened. Just take your time, visually to look at my review of Augustine Kitchen last year and you can noticeably see the improvements. The head chef and owner , Franck Raymond has certainly taken customer feedback to the max, because he's managed to turn what was just another French bistro restaurant in Battersea, to THE best French bistro in Battersea.

Battersea is an area which i really love, but it lacks very good restaurants - especially in the Battersea Bridge area. I was very excited when i heard a French restaurant had just opened just over the bridge from Chelsea, led by head chef, Franck Raymond who already worked wonders at Mon Plaisir in Covent Garden, with its authentic French food. Here, Franck is focusing on a menu led by ingredients from his home town, Evian. The dining room of Augustine Kitchen looks as though its been here for years and while it does have some charm to it, on the whole it feels cheaply decorated with some paneling round the bar which looks though it belongs on the floor instead. The menu is outstandingly priced with a set menu at lunch costing a mere £13.95 for three courses, and £22.95 for three courses at all other times. A great deal for Battersea residents. The house wine we started to demolish was juicy, very quaffable and a reasonable £21 a bottle. The table near us, who were french and very lou

Nice little French spot.
Having grown up in the french speaking part of Switzerland, I feel I share a lot in common with French culture (more so the north than the South). Which is why Augustine's kitchen surprised me a little. Having grown accustom to being able to spot anything remotely French from a mile, I was astounded to realise it took me until opening the menu to do so here...
Why? Because the interior of Augustine kitchen is so unbelievably normal. Beautifully normal. It's plain walls, open wine rack and bog standard tables bring together an allure of perfect harmony. Only exposing it's little French secret once you start looking for it.
A refreshing break from the usual fierce pride of la francophonie!
The food was exquisite, beautifully prepared, and beautifully simple. I enjoyed a wonderful fillet steak with an exquisite gratin dauphineois.

First time trying Augustine Kitchen this evening and it was lovely. I felt like I had escaped London life for a while which was very peaceful and relaxed. I had onion soup to start and entrecôte for my main and chocolate mousse for dinner it was lovely ! Tasty and wholesome food . The service was exceptional, staff were lovely and friendly. Champagne was lovely also!! Great to try a bespoke French restaurant, rather than a typical chain, I would definitely recommend trying!

What a fabulous gem of a restaurant in Battersea. The most delicious food, served in a warm and welcoming setting. We will be returning soon as there was a great selection on the menu which we can't wait to try on our next visit.

Beautiful, candle-light French restaurant in Battersea. I very much enjoyed my visit at Augustine Kitchen! Since the very moment of arriving, staff was incredibly responsive and kind. Food was great and nicely presented. The wine list was rich, giving the option to choose among various pairings. I certainly recommend visiting Augustine Kitchen, you will not be disappointed! I will myself be back pretty soon!

The food was mixed - the simpler dishes were delicious (lamb + gratin dauphinois), the fish was a poorly executed attempt at something from fancier restaurants (skin wasnt cooked through and was fatty and flavourless). Service was mixed too. They have a set menu which is really great value but quite limited in options. We chose to go a la carte, and maybe that's why it didn't feel as good value / would have expected better quality. Wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again.
