Well decorated space, superb service, and the food was outstanding.
Only one small detail that in my opinion should be improved: the sommelier should be more careful with the wine that serves to the customers. We reject two bottles that were not in conditions and after calling the sommelier, he agrees with us that the wine was not proper conditions. In the end we didn't pay the bottles, but I think that this can be avoided.
Nevertheless, this restaurant is a great place and I recommend it.

Six of us for dinner on a Saturday night. Booking essential as the place was heaving by 8pm. Superb service throughout from all the staff, who were polite, knowledgable, efficient and friendly. Our table chose a variety of starters, with me going for the sweetbreads, which were tasty and well presented. Our main courses were either suckling pig (fabulous) or salt marsh lamb (fantastic). Great choice of puddings and cheese .... the best pudding being the souffle! Wow! Great choice of wine (the California cabernet was excellent), plus aged tawny port and brandies!!! The bill came to c£850 incl 12.5% service charge ..... We thought this was a fair price to pay for a wonderful and very memorable evening!

We loved and appreciated every thing in this wonderful restaurant.

From the warm and friendly welcome to the amazing service.

The dishes from the aperitif to the small salted Carmel is something that is set to please any taste palette.

We went there as a family twice , never disappointed is a word I would say again and again .

I hope it keeps its standard and would review it again .

For us this a restaurant that will make us review other restaurants differently .

Even on a gloomy mid February evening, La Trompette in Chiswick looks cheery and inviting with its bubble shaped box hedge and wide awning. This is one of five Michelin starred London restaurants co-owned by clever restaurateur Nigel Platts-Martin. Over the last 20+ years, this astute money man has teamed up with chefs he admires and, in partnership with them, has brought us exquisite, top of the range, elegant but informal dining experiences, most of which, like La Trompette, are neighbourhood based. The Square in Mayfair and The Ledbury in Notting Hill, he owns with the talented Messrs. Phil Howard and Brett Graham, La Trompette in Chiswick, The Glasshouse in Kew and the fabulous Chez Bruce in Wandsworth, with one of my all-time favourite chefs, Bruce Poole.

My absolute favourite restaurant in London. I have celebrated 3 birthdays there and am still amazed by how good the food is each time.
Very friendly and professional staff (very helpful sommelier !).
The menu changes regularly depending on the season so there's always something to discover, and every time I go I always end up going home rolling on the floor because everything is so good I just can't stop eating.

The second part of my Square reunion series takes me to La Trompette in Chiswick. The restaurant is one of three more casual French eateries under the ownership of Nigel Platts-Martin (who also owned the Square) and Bruce Poole. I have already written about the other two restaurants (Chez Bruce and Glasshouse) previously but not La Trompette, as I had visited the restaurant during my blog’s sabbatical.

When we moved to London, I started hearing of a lot of neighborhoods that I had never heard of before, such as Chiswick. Friends also educated me on the fact that this hood has several very good restaurants, and as such, we made plans to visit one of them, La Trompette. We had recently been to Chez Bruce and La Trompette is owned by the same people and has a similarly structured set menu. We had tasty French food with some British undertones and would go again if we happened to see friends in Chiswick.

Lunch menu is very good value. What you get for the lunch choices are great value considering how much it would cost you of an eve.

Cheese board. La Trompette like the other restaurants in the Nigel Platts-Martins group has a fabulous cheese board. Well worth saving room for. Served with far more biscuits than we could eat.

I'd like to trumpet La Trompette. Despite living really close to La Trompette, I had neglected to visit it until last night. What have I been missing? Such elegant food and wine within walking distance of my flat - it's a triumph.

The surroundings are comfortable and subtle. The menu is well-chosen classic French cuisine. The service is attentive but not too in-your-face. The sommelier is more than competent. And the food, the food....

I started with foie gras with an enormous hunk of toasted brioche and my guest with a divine pithivier of pigeon breast. I can vouch that both were delicious. The pithivier was particularly well presented.

Main course we plumped for duck and rosti, and lamb. Both were superbly cooked and presented. And an elegant sufficiency. Neither too much or too little.

In fact I had to decline a pudding, but my guest tucked into a pannacotta with new season rhubarb. Delicious.

The prices are slightly eye-watering, but definitely worth it. I never thought I'd eat food this good in West London. Definitely one for a special occasion.

A perfect Sunday lunch destination. (or any other day for that matter)

Truly fabulous place for food.

Probably the best you can find west of central London.

I recommend the three course set Sunday lunch for £25. Michelin star food in London at this price is unbeatable! The wine will set you back alot more!

Afterwards visit Chiswick Park and walk off your lunch. Wonderful!

Opened in 2001, La Trompette is an off-shoot of the Square; while going for a simpler style of cooking, in its own way the place is just as successful. In 2008 it finally gained a Michelin star. Here are notes from one of my many meals here.

In mid-December I took my partner out for a birthday dinner treat. We recently moved to Hammersmith, and have been enjoying getting to know the area so I looked for a local spot. I wanted a place that would: (1) take less than 15 minutes to get to, (2) feel like it suited the special occasion, and (3) serve great food.

La Trompette was a delight, meeting all my requirements and adding a warmth and friendliness that really made the night.

The food was delicious. From the amuse-bouches through to the chocolate truffles with the bill, each course was well thought out, tasty, and well presented. I particularly enjoyed my main of suckling pig pork belly.

Being a couple composed of a vegetarian and a lactose intolerant, we often struggle with ordering. La Trompette took the stress out of this, with a knowledgeable manager coming over to explain the hidden ingredients in each dish and to make suggestions.

The one criticism I have of the menu is that there really are very few vegetarian options. Modifying meat dished always makes you feel you're getting a portion of someone else's dish rather than having an experience crafted by the chef for you.

The restaurant has a somewhat unusual service model, that led to my only criticism of the evening: that we were over-served. By the "service model" I mean the fact that we had no one waiter, but rather a team of servers with different responsibilities. A manager took our order, a sommelier handled the wine order, one waiter delivered bread, another food, a third wine. Each of the aforementioned checked in on us to ensure we were happy, leaving space for conversation somewhat squeezed.

They are aware of the problem -- one waiter diffused some of our chagrin with a self-deprecating joke -- but it does feel like something that could be improved, perhaps through some coordination by whoever is in charge of the section.

In March 2013 La Trompette reopened after a refurbishment which has seen two small additional dining rooms, a larger kitchen and a general décor refresh; the restaurant can now seat 75 diners at one time. The kitchen has been upgraded in more ways than one, with the installation as head chef of Rob Weston, who was head chef of The Square under Phil Howard for over a decade.

I had two further meals here in July 2013, confirming that the level of cooking under Mr Weston has improved compared to when the kitchens were run by Anthony Boyd.

Slices of tuna were lightly seared and served with anchovies, French beans, black olives and crushed potato. This was a classical set of Mediterranean flavours, the beans cooked properly, the tuna of reasonable quality (15/20). Suckling pig was served with peas, broad beans, smoked creamed potato and grapefruit puree. The suckling pig itself was very good, with crisp crackling, the meat having plenty of flavour. However the smoking of the potato gave an odd flavour note, and although the grapefruit puree was a logical pairing to the richness of the pork, the puree itself was very astringent (14/20). Burnt vanilla cream with poached cherries was nicely balanced, the cherries going well with the vanilla (15/20).

At a March meal I started with a quail raviolo with savoury onions topped with bacon foam and a barbeque dressing. The pasta had good texture, the hint of bacon went well, though the overall effect was quite rich (15/20). Scallop (optimistically described on the menu as "scallops") with lightly curried parsnip puree had the useful balance of pear to provide some acidity. The scallop (from Orkney) had good natural sweetness and was carefully timed, the hint of curry flavour not too strong for the delicate flavour of the shellfish (16/20).
For main course, roe deer was served with glazed carrots, mash, turnip tops and juniper. The deer had good flavour but again this was a very rich dish, and I wondered whether a little more acidity would have been useful (15/20). Short rib of beef was slow-cooked and served with a croustillant of oxtail-smoked bone marrow, and picked walnuts, the walnuts here providing an extra textural element and the pickling a useful sourness to cut through the richness of the beef (16/20).

For dessert, early season Alphonso mango was served with gingerbread, passion fruit, whipped ewe’s milk yoghurt and lime. This was a refreshing dish, the lime working well with the yoghurt, and the mango contributing their lovely fragrance (16/20). Chocolate pave was served with milk ice cream and candied hazelnuts, the latter working well with the chocolate (strong 15/20).

Service was very good, as it always is here. Overall this was a much better meal than the last one I had here under the previous chef. I had previously downgraded the score for La Trompette and was on the verge of doing so again based on my last meal here, but under Mr Weston things are clearly back on track, even in the first week of operation. There are limits to how high La Trompette can aim given its price point and the ceiling this imposes on ingredient quality, but the technical level of cooking seemed to me getting back on track today, and I think that the new chef is on the way to restoring the culinary standards of La Trompette, which had slipped under the previous incumbent.

The setting outside is lovely with a great ambience. The staff were nice. The restaurant had nice decor. The food was very good and all 3 course were very filling. We loved everything - the lamb and duck with foi gras were particularly good, we did prefer the lamb slightly over the beef (although the dauphinoise potatoes were great). However the soufflé was definitely the star of the show. And it's a very generous portion! (The custard and cherry dessert wasn't our favourite.) And they had a good selection of dessert wines. The salted caramel chocolate truffles at the end were a delicious treat, too!

A delightful birthday dinner at La Trompette. This one Michelin-starred restaurant has a fixed price set menu. We started with some beautifully dressed Colchester rock oysters. I had the cured sea bass starter which was stunning, and the better of the two starters we had (the other was the crab and scallop raviolo). While the roasted cod with razor clams I had was good, it was the Yorkshire grouse that really stood out and was perfectly cooked and paired with crushed root vegetables, celeriac purée, port roasted figs and crispy pancetta. The desserts were good (banana soufflé and roasted pear financier) but we weren't wowed in the same way the cured sea bass and grouse wowed us. The service was great, they even brought out a second dessert (brownie) for my partner's birthday.

Wow the food was definitely worthy of way more than 1 michelin star. The service a little slow but understandable as there was a large group booked perhaps, but even so. Can’t wait to try it again soon! 😍 thank you.

Enjoyed the visit. I would rate this restaurant as casual fine dining. Between a bib and a star. The food is to the point and well cooked. Enjoyed all dishes from start to finish. The bread is well-made, and the set menu is delicious and offers plenty of variation. Wine list is nice and has the usual UK prices :D. Glasware could be more elevated. The evening was very nice and enjoyed all aspects as well as some of the wine pairings. Sommelier was friendly as well as the service. As the evening progressed, the standard went down. At the end had to flag the service staff multiple times for the wine list, to order, ask for the sommelier to advise. In the end, we did not order more wine and asked for the bill. Wish they would bring this up to the standard of a fine dining restaurant. The dining room is large and might need more staff. All in all a very nice restaurant, good solid hearty cooking with a little bit "clunky" service moments.

We had lunch here on Good Friday and loved the spring menu. I had an aromatic wild garlic veloute for starters followed by succulent lamb loin with crispy belly main course. Then a lovely light and fluffy banana soufflé for dessert served with a sharp passion fruit ice cream. Beautiful food and surroundings with a friendly service!

They deserve the star!😍 Excellent food and service. I would like to have more starters and the waiter recommend me the tasting menu, too good to have it together with his recommended white wine, it’s perfect for my birthday dinner. P.S: amazing price less than £170 per head with the tasting menu+wine+ birthday sweet.

I attended as a guest of a wine society for a 64 head luncheon, comprising 4 courses. The restaurant coped with all the dietary requirements with good grace and precision. The food was simply delightful with their regular menu tweaked to allow us to taste the various wines that we had brought with us. I will be coming back again as I had a great meal and a good time.

We went for a Thursday night dinner to celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary. The one large problem I had with the menu was deciding what to have as it all looked fantastic. There is a tasting menu that seemed very good, but we didn’t fancy eating that many courses. The food we I pick was delicious. The staff are also brilliant, highly efficient and friendly. Lots of staff so the service is brilliant and didn't have to wait for service.

Excellent food. I ordered braised lamb as starter and deer meat as main. Both were excellent. Desserts were good but not outstanding. I ordered the bitter chocolate delice. Too sweet. Price was reasonable. £50 for 3 courses at lunchtime in the weekend. Staff were ok (not outstanding). I’ll be back again!

My wife and I went for a Valentine’s Day lunch and really enjoyed the food. We had the tasting menu, which was a bit pricier (the lunch set at £39.95 is a bargain for the food quality), but it was well worth it. The cured sea bream appetiser with togarashi and the linguine with black truffles were sublime. The service was attentive but not intrusive, and the restaurant was spacious but still intimate. It’s a thoroughly enjoyable venue, and I highly recommend it.
