Just a short walk away from the shops on Kensington High Street this refined restaurant serves a variety of delicious fare with magical flavours inspired by Egypt’s second city, Cleopatra’s Alexandria. Delicious twists on Mediterranean cuisine. We had a fantastic combination of starters that tantalised every taste bud - beetroot-cured salmon with charred cucumber, Mediterranean ratatouille (I haven’t had it this delicious) and silky smooth, smoky aubergine. For mains, I went for the oven-baked bamia (okra) and lamb. Okra is one of my favourite vegetables but, to the many sceptics, this dish will convert you. Full of flavour and the meltingly gorgeous lamb that went very well with the fatta rice – fluffy white rice over pieces of toasted bread, giving texture to the entire meal. For dessert, I had a creamy mehalabeya, a smooth and more-ish pannacotta-like dessert, from milk and mastic (the resin of the mastic tree – also known as Arabic gum, or tears of Chios, where the tree grows), topped with sugary pistachio. There’s an excellent wine list, focusing on the French classics, to perfectly accompany this wonderful medleys of flavours. I was particularly impressed by the staff and manager who, with their quiet grace and courtesy, made us feel very welcome.

We arrived late on Sunday night to a warm and friendly welcome. The menu was new to us but the hosts made us familiar with the food choices and gave great guidance. The food was really delicious. The service was exemplary. We were so happy with the whole night. Special thanks to the hosts, who made the whole evening special. Ps. Try the lamb shank ... you will love it.

Another cuisine ticked off my bucket list thanks to Aladino’s of South Kensington, London’s first and only Alexandrian restaurant. It is also – along with Bandol – one of the best looking. The decor is almost homely – like someone took the TV out of their very posh, very beautiful living room and added some more tables – but also dreamy and romantic. Warm, flattering light emanates from flying spaghetti monster ceiling lamps , the kind I find myself mooning over in Heal’s before realising I will never, ever be in a position to spend £3,000 on a thing that holds lightbulbs.Personally, if my name was within a letter of one of my favourite Disney movies I’d have my restaurant decked out in gold-sprayed monkey statues, technicolour cubic zirconas, etc., but then clearly Aladin Barakat, the restaurant’s owner, is much more restrained than I. And tasteful.

Very pleasant dinner in a cosy restaurant in Kensington. The food was good but not incredible. The staff were nice but not incredible and definitely not Egyptian. The atmosphere was very cosy and romantic but it was also empty on a Saturday night so seems like it’s not too popular of a place. We enjoyed the food but were hoping for more Egyptian specialities that would strike us as different. Most of the menu offered things you would find elsewhere. We paid 72£ for two starters and two mains which seemed reasonable given the location. I’d recommend the baked okra which was delicious.

Last night dinner was great! The food was amazing, especially the lamb chunks. Credits to the chef and the service was great too, catering the children’s need as well. We were well looked after. Thank you

Quite a nice place to go for Egyptian cuisine. I like lentil soup and the Ethical foie parfait are good choice for starter. We tried the Molokheya and poussin for main. Molokheya is a traditional Egyptian soup with a slimy texture. The flavour is good and the grilled baby chicken is tender and juicy. The lamb shank is also cooked to perfect. Unfortunately, their desserts are not as good. I’m quite disappointed with the baklava so the whole meal finished at a bit of low.

Something different Egyptian food is spic d lightly and cooking is perfect for each of the courses. The traditional soup - Molokheya- is a little slimy so if texture is not your thing then be careful. It is a wonderful taste if you dare to. Slow cooked lamb was pretty good !

The best restaurant I went to during my trip to London. Everything perfect! From the service to the food! My boyfriend and I shared a lamb which quietly satiated both of us (we just ordered an extra mashed potato) Magnificent restaurant

Absolutely amazing place. Beautiful, quiet, peaceful and delicious food. Staff are incredibly helpful and kind, Alexandrie has a really positive ambience and the food is amazing both in terms of taste, quality and price. Could not recommend highly enough.

First time trying Egyptian food and we were pleasantly surprised! Service was friendly, and we were given a voucher for 25% off to use next time (which we will). It was quite quiet for a Friday night, and the restaurant started to get cleared up around us, so we felt a bit rushed to leave. My sea bass main course was the highlight.

Beautiful place and reasonable prices. Only but is that we ordered the tasting menu which was not very Egyptian, which was the main reason for going there. My recommendation is order a la carte

This was my first time trying Egyptian food. This place is gorgeous. Very simple elegant. The staff and manager were extremely polite and helpful. The manager explained the whole menue to us and he also gave us really good suggestions for thr food. The food was very tasty. I would definitely recommend it and I'd go bacl again myself. This restaurant feels like an experiment of Egyptian food for a European taste.

Our group did the traditional tasting menu with the wine pairing. Everything was fantastic. One of the best lamb dishes I have experienced. The service was great and responsive. This was a great last meal for our time in London. Give this place a try.

The food was great. The menu is somewhat limited with regards to variety of options but everything we had was very nice with great service. I hope they stay in business since we were the only customer on Sunday evening. Maybe being off season?!

Beautiful restaurant and beautiful food, wonderful place in Kensington for an intimate evening out and also has great space downstairs for a private function.
