I only wanted some chips which were wonderful. There is plenty of room to sit down for a full fish supper. It’s very busy which is always a good sign. This plaice can’t be battered, or should that be this place can’t be bettered? Either way, do enjoy. Plus it’s only a ten minute walk from the Houses of Parliament so perfect when visiting London for sightseeing.
It's a typical Fish and Chips place. If you're looking for anything else then you'll be highly disappointed. They've some burgers and egg options available. But those are nothing to mention. They've got a good variety of fishes like Cod, Haddock, Sea bass etc. We tried the Haddock with chips. It was good but could have been better as it's one of their signature dishes. We tried the Mushroom Omelette as well. That was quite nice. Price is pocket friendly. Hence it's a decent place to have a meal. The decor is quite vintage. Looks like the sailor pub and creates a nice ambiance. It's not very heavily crowded place. Hence service is also fair.
Fishcoteque, Borough Market, Fortnum & Mason Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon, Tayyabs, Giraffe: Heathrow, Park Plaza Westminster, & Wagamama: Heathrow. The GF and I were around Waterloo Station one night, feeling a bit peckish for some fish and chips. We looked a good thirty minutes for a proper pub still serving food past midnight. Alas, none were available so we settled on Fishcoteque.
Surprising 'chip shop'. Searching for a quick bite and got beautifully presented marinated chicken and chips with salad.
...we went for fish and chips at Fishcotheque which occupied a highly unassuming place on Waterloo Road. I must've walked past it quite a few times and would still have ignored it if I hadn't been recommended to give it a try. Entering, I liked how the interior was a throwback to the fish and chips shops of yesteryear with the out of date decor and the advertisements from a bygone age. But what matter most of all was how good were their fish and chips . Starting with the chips they were as expected from any half-decent chippie so no complaints about them. And the fish was really very good indeed with a delicate batter encapsulating the fresh and
First night in Waterloo, I was tired from all the traveling from Manchester. This place was the first thing that caught my eye as soon as I stepped out of the Waterloo Station, so I told myself I would check it out after I settle my things at the hotel.
The place is quite small, yes, however, once you step in, the décor in this small eatery will seem more inviting than the size. Vintage metal frames and plaques on the walls, vintage covers on the latest music, and a very simple menu. I didn't try their fish and chips - silly, I know - because I went for their fried chicken with chips, which was not so bad. The chicken was nice, tender, and had a very balanced flavor to it. I also tried one of the fish cakes which was not all that bad, either. It was crunchy on the outside yet really fluffy on the inside - I thought it went really well with some mayonnaise and pepper.
Overall, the experience was lovely for me - man people do come in for some take out. Reasonably priced, too.
Although it is quite small and not that popular, Fishcotheque is quite good for fish & chips.
Situated 3 min away from waterloo tube station, the fast food restaurant is a great place for British food. It is quite cheap as well since you can pay around £20 for two people. What I like about the place is that it is quite cosy and comfortable for dining-in, but you can also have takeaways.
I have tried the fish & chips and it was one of the best ones in London.
The ambience is far from pretentious, more of a fast food place than a restaurant but it is worth trying for first makers.
Just another fish 'n chips store of London, located in Waterloo..the simplicity of the restaurant and the tasty dishes served are a treat,indeed..portions are good, ingredients fresh and falvours delicately balanced..overall a nice, sumptuous brunch experience one can have!! One thing that surprises me the most is their pies..be it steak and kidney pie or chicken and mushroom pies..they serve some of the most delectable pies in the whole of London..forever classic fish and chips are there a usual...so if you are there in Waterloo, then you can try and visit there..
This place is conveniently located opposite Waterloo Station. Once inside you know not of the busy Waterloo road. So peaceful.
The fish are nice and fresh. I highly recommend the grilled Seabass. Unfortunately for my Hot fish platter the batter had a burnt taste probably from the oil but other than that all was good.
Already had my lunch. But still wanted to try this fish and chips. Hence I ordered a take away with just the fish. Staff recommended cod fish. Excellent choice. Best fried fish ever for me. 5 stars.
really great fish & chips! the onion rings were delicious as well. our server was super kind and attentive as well. would return!
Fishcotheque is a gem of a dining experience, offering a delightful blend of incredible taste, rustic decor, and a nostalgic ambiance that transports you back to the 80s. The moment you step inside, you're greeted with a charming setting that perfectly captures the essence of a traditional fish and chip shop. The rustic decor creates a warm and inviting atmosphere, immersing you in a cozy dining experience.
Now, let's talk about the star of the show—the fish and chips. The taste is simply outstanding, leaving you craving more with each bite. The fish is cooked to perfection, boasting a crispy golden batter that encases succulent and flaky fillets. But what truly sets Fishcotheque apart is their generous portion of chips. The quantity they serve is simply unmatched, ensuring that you never run out of these delectable potato delights. Each chip is lovingly prepared, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, making them the perfect accompaniment to the flavorful fish.
Overall, Fishcotheque delivers an unforgettable dining experience that not only satisfies your taste buds but also takes you on a journey through time. With their amazing taste, nostalgic atmosphere, and a special mention for their plentiful chips, it's no wonder this establishment has become a beloved spot for fish and chip enthusiasts.
I recently visited Fishcotheque and was blown away by their delicious fish and chips. The fish was perfectly cooked and the batter was crispy and flavorful. But what really made the experience memorable was the fantastic service and incredibly helpful staff. They went above and beyond to ensure that my meal was enjoyable.
Overall, I highly recommend Fishcotheque for anyone looking for great food and outstanding service."
One of the good fish and chips that I had. The batter was light and crispy. The fish was piping hot and flaky. It was good. The prices are on the higher side and it will cost more for the dine in than a takeout. If you are a fan of fish and chips, do try it out.
They had some problems with the card reader and it was cash only when I went on 5th Aug 2023.
We were over at the BFI and wanted some Fish and Chips and decided to give this place a shot. I’m so incredibly glad we did. It was phenomenal. The tunes they had pumping were perfect. It had some classic 80’s hits to add to the discotheque naming. The calamari rings were some of the best I’ve ever had period and the cod was out of this world. Nice large thick chips and the service was impeccable. It doesn’t look like much but trust me it’s the place you want to stumble into and get taken to Heaven. Mehmet was our waiter and absolutely crushed it. We’re from New York and expect a particular level of service and our boy Mehmet delivered in spades. An absolute banger spot which is not to be missed. You won’t regret it!
The best fish and chips I tried in my entire life, def recommended if you in London.
I tried the cod & calamari rings and both were heavenly cooked, they are crispy from the outside and perfectly cooked from the inside. Even the chips were awesome and felt like they were made at home
Classic authentic fish and chips outside of Waterloo station. Had a traditional cod and it was amazing! Crispy breading and tender on the inside. Chips were great too! You can’t go wrong with this place!
We visited Fishcotheque on a weekday afternoon to sample the famous Fish and Chips. The card reader was not functional and we were informed that only cash would do at the entry itself. We ordered the Haddock with chips (the menu reads only large as an option) - 19.95£. And large it was! With a generous serving of chips it almost was a task to complete the portion! The fish was cooked perfectly, very soft, and the cover nice and crisp. The chips were well made too. Our only regret was that if we had ordered a smaller portion perhaps we could've tried something else too! The staff is very polite and the restaurant is dainty. We had a nice time.
The fish and chips as well as the cheese and onion pasty are not to be missed. And the curry sauce was delicious with the chips. Service was attentive, fast, and welcoming. Not located in the best area but inside the restraunt is cozy.
I think this is one of the best places to get fish and chips proper in the city of London. The batter was crispy and the chips were nice and crunchy. Located by Waterloo station this place is a gem and I would highly recommend this place to fish and chip enthusiasts.
Lovely fish and chips, flaky cod with crispy batter. The curry sauce was also good. However, we had the calamari on a bad day. Only ate one. With the big portions you could share one medium meal between two.
Service was nice and would come back if wanting fish and chips by the river.
Authentic old-fashioned fish and chips just outside of Waterloo station. Went with the traditional cod and it was perfect! Tender on the inside with a crispy breading. Chips were great as well. Add the small shop atmosphere and friendly service… and you have a winner!
Probably the best fish & chips I've had. This place needs to open a store in Australia so I can have it every weekend.
The best fish and chips in London! Batter in the fish is perfect and portions are huge. Service was great and not too busy when we visited for an early dinner. Ordered the medium cod and chips. Highly recommend.
Has to be some of the best fish and chips in town! It's on the pricier side but everything was big portions, super fresh and crispy. Recommended to us by a tour guide and definitely worth the visit. We tried the cod and plaice and both were great, but if you're shy about fish, I'd recommend the cod.
