Friendly, yet professional staff, lovely location set in a little village, didn’t book but were lucky to have a table free, and I would recommend booking, the food is top notch and at a good price, will be returning at some point too, definitely in the summer - thanks again lovely Sunday roast
Such a gorgeous location, incredibly homely.
Huge choice on the menu, wonderful food, not to mention the great staff.
All this led to a fantastic Easter Sunday afternoon.
Fabulous, delicious Sunday lunches, friendly staff and dogs welcome. Such a beautiful village pub, full of laughter too.
Very nice meal last night and a great selection on the menu. Go there and try
Lovely old pub! Big inglenook fire places and grey fare
Lovely food in a warm and friendly setting.
Beautiful meal in a beautiful setting!
Outdoor dining was in a high quality tent which had great atmosphere. Service was perfect, all the staff were really friendly and attentive.
Food was definitely the best we’ve had during our stay in South Downs - would recommend the sole and celeriac in particular!
Set in a lovely picture postcard village, this is a typical country pub. The roads are narrow so parking must be wherever you can find a space.
The welcome is friendly and warm. The food is good but from a limited menu. The honey chipolatas are highly recommended as is the chocolate pudding. We ordered chips to go with the fishcake and they were lovely.
I am told by my friend that the beer, of which there was a good selection, was very good.
So a visit down the country lanes is highly recommended.
We had a lovely meal at the Hollist Arms, the food was fresh, flavorful & generally delicious! We tried 6 different dishes and all were excellent. The staff were very attentive and charming and the setting is warm and welcoming. The only small hang ups are that the menu is perhaps slightly limited, and while the food is great they charge extra for sides and as such the price can rack up. It is perhaps slightly overpriced all things considered. Nonetheless the atmosphere was delightful and we did ha e a great evening.
The food was brilliant and the tent in the garden is really cosy. Excellent choice of local Beer and Ale too. Service does need improving; this seems to be due to a lack of staff but I know how hard it is to find and retain good waiting staff so I won't quibble too much. Will be back again.
Very good parking in the adjacent Lodsworth Larder car park or along the adjacent road side.
External seating either in a covered marquee or bench seating in a very pretty garden.
Quirky old pub, wood fire was on.
Wide choice of Wines, beers( Perry orchard cider was excellent).
Excellent menu mainly of local produce, the food and service to a very high standard.
Nailing all the little things, with confidence.
A concise, but perfectly executed menu - any larger would be suspect. Friendly and kind, but unobtrusive service. A beautiful but relaxing room. Stylish and classy touches throughout. Food is just spot on, unfussy - all about flavour, provenance.
Thank you for looking after us. We will recommend you far and wide.
This is a gorgeous restaurant with absolutely beautiful food. I visited for my sister's birthday and the food was really excellent. Amazing new season asparagus, and beautiful pork rilletes as starters followed by a beautiful slow cooked chicken with lentils.
They also have a brilliant Covid-secure garden area, covered to protect you from the rain but extremely well ventilated.
Highly recommend: a jewel in the West Sussex countryside.
This pub has just reopened under new management and we had a fantastic meal there. It's a limited menu of small plates at the moment but we ordered a selection and everything was delicious.
Enjoyed a fantastic lunch there today. The inventive and frequently changing menu is always a delight. Today, the mains we selected were roast hake (for 2), cuttlefish with borlotti beans & aioli and roast lamb with asparagus & new potatoes - all fab.
This is a gem!
Well done to Angus and the team- and particular credit to chef George
By far the best pub for miles in West Sussex. Angus and his team bring something that extra bit special. The menu is constantly changing and the food is delicious, seasonal and offers something for everyone. The interior is decorated with a cosy vibe with a roaring fire in the winter and the outdoor dining tent is stylish and exactly what a pub restaurant should be. 10/10
Lunchtime visit to this lovely pub in a lovely south downs village. We really were made to feel very welcome by staff and the food was well presented. We had cod loin and prawn noodles both of which we would have again. Highly recommended and I suggest booking in advance. Also check out the local produce in the village store next door. Or the brewery just down the road.
Went for a lovely family dinner at the hollist last week, we were imideadtly well looked after by the friendly tentative staff. I was pleasantly surprised at the seasonal variety on there well sourced menu. I chose to share the brasied beef shin for 2, which I found very reasonably priced for the quantity, could have fed 3, so I made a lasagne the next day with the rest. The beef was cooked to absolute perfection. The dish of vegetables that came with it, were equally as desirable. Would certainly recommend this place, and will deffinatly be back again soon!
A lovely cosy village pub with friendly staff and delicious food
We ordered Korean chicken and the gorgeous peanut butter and salted caramel eclairs for takeaway last week and it was all absolutely delicious! Ordering through the website was super easy, pick up felt safe and efficient, and we'll be ordering again this Friday but this time trying the Southern Fried chicken!
Fantastic ,friendly, helpful, informative and have a Happy Hour for two hours during the week. We only had two pints there and were made to feel very welcome. Haven't eaten there yet. Menu looked very nice. Very old pub, very pretty interior, very nice all round. Do try it.....thank you for your hospitality
Regards
The East Anglian's
Lovely beer and delicious food. I particularly recommend the gnocchi on today's lunch menu. The staff are friendly and efficient and the garden seating was lovely.
Cosy country pub with inglenook fireplace and great food with friendly service, what more could you ask for?
