Had a trip to Speke Hall this week and it was as divine as ever I have lost track of how many times I have been there but it never disappoints. Great place for kids too as the gardens are a safe haven for families you could literally be there all day. The Hall looks stunning time only helps it to get better. Wonderful guides too Sally in particular who was a wealth of knowledge. I will be back because it is just such an amazing experience you come home feeling relaxed and refreshed. Visitors from all over the world were enjoying the day but its just as good if you just live down the road. Cafe great too serving home grown produce. Disappointed not to see the gift shop and I hope it returns again some time in the future. Keep up the good work and thank you so much to all the volunteers that made it such a lovely day. X
A beautiful property that we've been meaning to visit for quite some time. We weren't disappointed, it's beautiful & fascinating.
The grounds were a treat to walk around too and we even got to watch some aeroplanes land at the airport.
The staff are lovely and very knowledgeable.
Cafe, ice-cream and occasionally a pizza van to keep the hungry tums fed.
I'm not showing too many interior pics so I don't spoil it for folks.
Well worth a visit.
A great day out for the family. A well kept example of a Tudor home. The volunteers around the building were wonderful and full of knowledge which made each room even more interesting.
Only negatives were that the service was extremely slow in both cafe and stalls. Also the maze was shut. Not ideal for busy school holidays.
There is a large carpark, and it's easy to get, too. The gardens are lovely with some colourful borders. It's worth paying a visit to the secret garden, which is a lovely place to relax. The hall is nice but very dark inside.
All the volunteers are all so knowledgeable and very helpful. The cafe is large and has a delicious selection of lunch items and plenty of cakes.
Excellent NT property just outside Liverpool, next to John Lennon airport. Plenty of rooms open to explore and friendly room guides eager to explain the house history. As members we were able to have a pre opening private tour by a fantastic guide dressed in a Victorian outfit. (See picture)
Speke Hall, oh what a charming gem! 🏰💫
Stepping onto the grounds of Speke Hall is like stepping back in time to a bygone era of Tudor elegance and grace.
The picturesque black-and-white timbered exterior invites you to explore the history and beauty within.
As you stroll through the lush gardens, you can't help but be captivated by the tranquility and natural beauty that surrounds this historic manor.
The gardens, with their mix of carefully manicured hedges and wild blooms, offer a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life.
The stories of the White Lady ghost and the rich history of the hall add an air of mystery and intrigue to your visit. It's a place where legends and reality blend seamlessly.
Managed by the National Trust, Speke Hall is not just a glimpse into the past; it's a testament to the dedication of those who work tirelessly to preserve our heritage.
If you have a fondness for history, architecture, or simply appreciate the beauty of a well-preserved Tudor manor, Speke Hall is a must-visit destination that will leave you with a sense of wonder and appreciation for our shared history. 🌿🏴✨
Fabulous place really interesting. We took the guided tour which I highly recommend she was excellent 👌 lovely gardens and well kept historic house
Beautiful historic building, and lovely grounds. The 'Bund' walk gives amazing views across the River Mersey and beyond - well worth it!
Great day out with the kids. A nice cafe, great grounds with activities and an interesting walk around the Hall itself. It has a really good Giant's walk that is interactive for kids. This could even be developed more as it seems to end quite abruptly just as the kids were getting into it. However it looks like improvements are being made constantly. Also a good bonus was a quick visit to see the planes land and take off from the airport which is right next door. Well done National Trust. Another amazing site maintained by this great organisation.
Lovely National Trust property. Interesting house, beautiful grounds and great extended walks. Perfect for kids; there is maze, playground and special trail through the woods especially for children with more play equipment. Also good for dogs... dogs on leads permitted on certain walks in the grounds, and allowed off lead if you access the coastal park. Also, excellent pizza and ice cream stands!
Being only from the Wirral, I can’t believe it took me so long to visit this gem. The grounds themselves are absolutely beautiful and the house is just stunning. Well done to all of the NT staff on site who tend the gardens and to those experts around the house with their incredible knowledge of the building and its history.
If you’re a plane nerd, then there’s a nice seat on the outer path where you can watch traffic in and out of Liverpool airport 🤓✈️
Plenty to see and do!
Stroll around the extensive gardens, get lost in the maze, play areas for children and not forgetting the house to explore.
Lovely rooms in the house, very well maintained with friendly staff situated in many rooms.
Would recommend visiting on a weekday if you can as it does get quite busy on a weekend with some queues to go into the first few rooms. Interesting displays and so much detail has been put in so don't miss that!
I hadn't visited for quite a few years, but it was lovely to see this gem of a place on Merseyside! The outside grounds, the history & architecture of Speke Hall are stunning. All the volunteers were very informative of the halls history. And, if you wish to do so, you can watch a bit of plane spotting there next to Liverpool Airport. 😅
Great day at Speke Hall with more than enough to entertain the grandchildren before taking them around the stunning house. Edges out Dunham Massey as my favourite local National Trust location because of the child friendly approach to education and entertainment and then we had the planes to look at too. Pay attention Dunham Massey, you need a play area for the little ones.
Part of the National Trust and a really interesting house to look around. The guides were friendly and knowledgeable. Lovely gardens and a mini maze. Great for picnics. Café and pizza van also available.
A good day out for all the family. The gardens are lovely and we'll kept. There's plenty for the children to do and explore. There's a Childe of Hale path that my granddaughter found very exciting. Lots of woodland with climbing features. The cafe is clean, well stocked and priced reasonably. There used to be a gifts shop but it's now a book shop. Still very popular and you can donate used books to them, which I found very handy. There is a very nice veg, fruit and herb garden. I asked if they sell the produce but they don't but sometimes give it away. This could be a great opportunity at the hall to make some money for the upkeep. All of the staff are wonderful and knowledgeable. It's a great day out and children really enjoy it, they can burn off lots of energy in a safe environment. Have a look at the website for more details and events there, definitely go along for a great day out.
Speke Hall is a good place to visit if you're a National Trust member, but expensive if you're not. Long walks through the gardens and woods, an historic Tudor house you can walk around and enter, picnic areas and cafe. It's a good for kids too.
Loved it beautiful place well kept . Staff and volunteers very enthusiastic and helpful. My grandchildren loved it we shall go again.
Beautiful place to visit, as we often do. Watching the earth spring to life again this time and at the end of our walk, a lovely coffee and ice cream sitting outside in the sun was perfect.
