Fabulous Bar/Restaurant. The food and drink were excellent, as were the staff. The owner even came over and gave us a little history of the place, as it was really an old pen factory.
We will be back, and fully recommend people to visit.
Thanks again
Amazing food, good portion sizes! Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and quick service. Really nice vibe and left satisfied after the food and the great selection of beers and cocktails! FYI The lamb tagine and garlic prawns are a must thankyou Pen Factory for a lovely evening! will definately be back!
Excellent service fantastic menus food is delicious, first time I had been it’s now on my must revisit list , atmosphere was warm and friendly, it is certainly one of the best restaurants I have been for lunch ,loved it 👏👏👏👏
Honestly, this was one of the best meals I've ever had.
We visited as a party of 7 people and ordered all sorts of stuff from the rather eclectic menu.
We had a 'Wine Board' and a 'Veggie Board' to share for starters, both of which were delicious.
Then for mains we ordered around 8 'small plates' and 2 'large plates', again to share between us. Every single one of these was excellent. Particular highlights for me were the goat curry (I have no idea what they put in that but it was absolutely outstanding), the grilled plaice (cooked to perfection), the crab risotto and the pigeon. Honestly, I was in heaven for around half an hour, these dishes were so good.
We also had desserts. The panna cotta with burnt seaweed biscuit was amazing, and the chocolate brownie was the best I've ever had.
The atmosphere is lovely - again, eclectic. The service was good too.
Overall, I would go back here in an instant and I would recommend it to anybody!
Fantastic afternoon in the beautifully sun-soaked courtyard yesterday afternoon. Couldn't think of a better place to lunch in Liverpool. Cellar is always in top-top condition too; great ale. Keep up the good work x
Lovely venue, great gin, staff very friendly would defo recommend this place
loved it fab food artisan bread delicous friendly i will be back staff were great highly recommend
Best place in town for lunch!
Not that I would be biased of course! But honestly, the food is fantastic.
Lovely atmosphere and amazing food. Really enjoyed my first visit. The staff were very attentive and helpful. We will be back.
Thanks to Sugarvine for an excellent recommendation. Very cool place, great friendly service and the food was delicious 😋
I was dubious about the portion sizes as I'm a hearty eater ( being a fat bastard is harder to write about yourself ha ha) but it a good twist on tapas and I was full on leaving and DIDN'T want a kebab on the way home, which is unheard of. Would recommend it.
Best place in Liverpool with the best staff. The food is great too
Excellent food! Really fast service, cocktails was fab! Staff really pleasant, would highly recommend a visit here! Definitely will be returning!!!
Fab atmosphere staff very hard working always ready to serve advise and help our waitress lauren was amazing beautiful personality couldn't do enough for us well recommended 👍10/10
Great night listening to live music and enjoying some lovely food. Staff are friendly and offer good service.
Welcoming place providing excellent food at reasonable prices
Great atmosphere, lovely friendly staff and a good selection of beers that are well kept. We didn't have food but it looked and smelled delicious, we intended to eat here next time.
Amazing service and food !! Got a real rustic bubbly vibe to the place !! Everyone fits in!! Dx
Great catch up, drinks and food with two friends last Friday. Good size portions of freshly cooked food. Friendly helpful staff as always. Just a shame as a real ale fan than 5 out of 6 handpumps were hoppy ales as usual with one strong dark ale and nothing for any customers who like traditionally malty English best bitter. 5 of the same thing is not a real choice. Still the German lager was good (though rather more expensive - £4.00 than some of the real ales are).
Great atmosphere, great food and great service
Lovely tasty food. Wasn't expecting the lamb to be as it was but equally it was delicious. Would go back!
It's a long walk up Mount Pleasant from the town centre to get to the Pen Factory in Hope St. I always need a pint after that walk. This place always reminds me of my old school canteen for some reason. It has a very good range of real ales and beers that you won't see in other pubs. Very pleasant staff.
Wow! I visited the Pen Factory years ago for a drink when it was new but haven’t eaten there til last night. I have been missing so much!! We were going to have small plates but my friend saw the hake and clams with smoked aubergine and a bisque sauce. I saw the belly pork with Caulifliwer purée. Cider jus, pickled celeriac and mustard seeds. I ordered chips with aioli and my friend Chantey Carrots it was totally delicious! They recommend drinks with each dish and I had the cider to go with the pork. We are coming back to Liverpool for my husbands birthday. We are eating here!!
Great venue, lovely outside area for Summer of term time. Menu wasn't very big but the food was high quality. Herb crusted cod and mussels was delicious. Reasonable amount of atmosphere with this being in the University area and out of term time. Service was good
Nice terrace space for when the weather allows. Small plates, sandwiches and salads with a good range of drinks. Relaxed atmosphere and various seating areas from grabbing a coffee to dining. Only small downside is the noise of the metal chairs being dragged back and forth on the wooden floor. Probably not that noticeable when it's busy and live music is on but it was a bit distracting on my visit (probably just me being weird!)
Really good environment. Nice & lively with a friendly crowd
Lovely chilling place, awesome service with a smile. Food delicious, delicately prepared. X
Really nice and comfortable service and food is indeed tasty. Going to be back soon!
Absolutely fabulous food and excellent service. Super choice of great wines to go with meal too. Beautifully presented, highly recommend and will definitely come back, thank you!
probably one of my favourite restaurants in the city. the wine and beer selections are always on point. food is always guaranteed experience. i don’t think i can actually fault this place, it’s just great.
Great food and service. I opted for the vegan option (not a vegan). It was Lush!!Beautifully presented and the female staff member was a gem. Giving advice about the food and what to go for regarding dietary requirements (For my friend). Ended up getting; (starter)Olives & Focaccia/Sourdough bread, with Squash (main), Chips Aioli (sides), Tenderstem Broccoli and Cherry Cake, gorgeous!Great recommendations! Will go there again for a meet and great with a group of friends.
A nice bar with a great selection of beers and ciders. Usually not too loud so it may be worth checking out if you're looking for a quiet drink around the Hope Street area.
Fabulous place, excellent food, friendly staff. Lovely atmosphere and have an outdoor space for the warmer months.
A must-visit when on Liverpool's Hope Street. Great selection of ales, cocktails, and much more. I am yet to try their food out but, if everything else is something to go by, I am sure I will not be disappointed!
The Pen Factory remains one of my favourite places in Liverpool. This visit was for lunch with two friends visiting the city from Japan and France respectively, and given the weather the opportunity to sit in the pleasant outdoor courtyard was seized.
The staff, never afraid to be anything other than themselves, are warm, witty, helpful; the regularly changing beer ranges from the local (Brimstage Brewery, Liverpool Organic among others) through American craft (peanut butter milk stout, anyone?) to Belgian trappist; the food, for which two small plates priced between roughly £5-£7 each should suffice for a reasonable meal, is certainly recommended.
It's a characterful place which has the capacity to surprise - this time, four guys turn up to have a session playing folk songs.
Delicious food – we had homemade soup, hummus, and chips – in beautifully decorated surroundings. The fresh flowers dotted all over the place were incredible and the staff were extremely friendly.
Lovely spot in Liverpool, outdoors area for warmer or dryer days and indoors is spacious. Nice vibes and regular music/jazz.
The food, specifically the hummus is amazing, the service is meh. You have to order at the bar and can be stood for over 5 minutes just waiting for a member of staff to come and serve you. The person with lots of facial piercings is particularly rude. After making us wait 5 minutes just to order he was extremely flippant. They asked what table we were sat on, the tables do not have table numbers and there were only 2 other tables busy in our section. They proceeded to have quite an attitude for no reason
The Pen straddles fantastic eatery and a fantastic bar in the best meld I know. The setting, staff and beer (especially cask) and small plates are amazing!
