Following the enthusiastic recommendations from both word of mouth and online critiques, I was keen to make my visit. The premises were immaculate and orderly. The team was welcoming and appeared happy, and I was pleased to find ample street parking, especially appreciating that it wasn't situated on a main road.
Nonetheless, upon ordering, I discovered the absence of hake and plaice from the menu, which I was told was attributed to the season. I hoped to sample haddock, cod, hake, and plaice for comparison, yet this omission did not dampen my spirits.
My order comprised haddock, cod, a large portion of chips, a cheese savoury, scampi, a meat pie, tartare sauce, and mushy peas. The peas stood out as exceptional, the tartare sauce was satisfactory, albeit slightly too acidic, and the cod and haddock fillets were enjoyable. However, their batter would have benefited from a tad longer in the fryer. Like the fish, the batter of the cheese savoury was undercooked, failing to hold its contents together when handling, despite that, the savoury being extra tasty, received an "Oh!" from me.
Overall, the establishment and staff were commendable, and the food was tasty, although I feel it was rushed out and would have benefitted from a little longer cooking time.

As always, delicious, freshly prepared food, served with a smile. No wonder we love to go back. Can't be beaten on taste or service. I haven't sampled the whole menu but all I've tried is great.
Fishcakes are the very best - freshly prepared on request. Great old-fashioned delight.
Cracking Chippy, stopped by this place on the way home after a day out. The fish and chips were really good, beat I had in a long time. Staff were very friendly, gave us a double take when we ordered due to our Manchester accents😀Also recommend Marine Lake, Crosby to go and eat you F&C it’s about 2 miles away, food was still piping hot.
The best fish chips fishcakes in the whole area. I have been going there for 48 years and my dad has been going since it opened and we have never had a bad meal or experience from there. If you've never tried it you don't know what your missing out on. I drive 9 mile to go here but its worth it.
Stopped here for some fish and chips. Top quality taste and service. Food was cooked fresh, not greasy and served in a tidy box. Definitely recommend!
Been coming here since my high school days. Always good food and the family who run the chippy always good to get along with, just don't ask them about football!!!
4.5 stars. A proper chippy! Had Cod but shoulda had Haddock. Pretty good thin batter. Good quality fish and the chips done to a nice brown without being sloppy or too greasy.
My only bug bear is I think it might be cooked in "sustainable" oil which makes the chips skin tough like roast potatoes and lacked a bit of jennysaykwar. Sadly that loses a point on my aficionado-ometer.
Yorkshire uses dripping which is next level but the normal oil can still be crispy without skin effect me postulates...
Still top shelf though. I'm a picky lad of Fleetwood origin.
Next time I would try the fish fingers as they look great.
Nicest people always polite to all customers been going here for decades it's spotless food great best fish around 👍

This is not only the best Fish and Chips in Liverpool but the world with wonderful Staff and incredible food you can never go wrong I felt as if I was at home with smiles and memories that will stay with me forever I will definitely be back on my next visit to this beautiful City that is so full of history and emotion thank you so much.
Best chippy I know. Really nice staff, the best fish ever and amazing gravy.
Clean food, clean shop and very good customer service.
Me and my partner had it last night it was a real treat. The batter is crispy. The fish is fresh. The wait might be 5-10 minutes as you are not the only one there at any given moment, everyone seems to love this place. There is always other people waiting to enjoy byrnes lovely fish too, the line started outside and within a few minutes we was asked what we wanted and served. Given how nice the food is. The price is also good too compared to london prices where we are from.
Overall really enjoyed it and will be going back tonight.
The best chippy in Liverpool proper traditional English chip shop few and far between in Liverpool believe me I have a look I work all over Liverpool this is the best one I’ve had so far the fish was fresh and beautiful.
Will be back 💯%
Simply, one of the best fish & chip shops in the world, it's been there for four generations - so they have to be doing something right. In the heart of the community, you'll get a friendly welcome from the moment you arrive to order, and then - as it's usually busy - while you wait, you may well find yourself getting caught up in various conversations going on about topical issues. The portions are large and good value for money and tastes great - takeaway only though.
Had a short trip to Liverpool to renew my passport and we decided to get some good fish and chips in advance before returning to Birmingham. Having narrowed it down to 10 based on where we might end up it turned out that Byrne’s was a mere 1/4 mile from our final destination. Cod, chips x 2 and a scallop were ordered. Fish was cooked in front of me as all good chippys do. As were my scallop(s) which due to being thinly cut I got three. So we shared these. I noticed the cod was nice and thick when he battered it and hoped I would get that piece. As it turned out both our fish and chips contained thick fillets of cod. And what lovely fresh fish. Cooked perfectly in a lovely crisp batter that never went soggy. This chippy has been family run since 1932 and is a real credit to the neighbourhood. My only minor gripe was the chips were between batches. The next lot were in but weren’t ready yet! Oh yeah and it was less than six quid for this lovely lovely fish and chips. I’d definitely revisit again and again.
We flew 6k miles to try this (not) LOL! Actually in town for a convention & heard from the locals / Google that this is THE place to go for Liverpool BEST fish chippies
Grand entrance we made, we did. Had this customer - a local uncle in neon green LFC shirt interrogating & jabbing us (2 lost looking Asian boys) but all in good fun & jest! Good laugh & love the vibes 😂😂😂 Sorry mates, we really don’t watch football 😜

The finest fish and chips on Merseyside. Have been visiting this little gem for over 25 years and the quality of the food has always been 5 stars. 4th generation chippy 93 years and still going strong. I'd give it 6 stars if I could.
