If you ever find yourself even remotely nearby, DEFINITELY try this spot. The food was AMAZING! From starters to mains to dessert; wow. We had the camembert platter which was incredibly decadent and very generous (able to share between a few of us), the fisherman's pie was fresh, creamy and a nice hearty option for the colder months, and though I was stuffed from dinner, the pecan pie and creme brulee were all massive hits with our table. I also cannot stress enough how warm and friendly the staff were; our server (though I unfortunately didn't catch his name) was very attentive and accommodating for my 1.5 year old son. The next time we are on this side of the pond, we will be back! Thanks to the staff! Fantastic!
We've been drinking and eating here for years, one of the best pubs in the area and couldn't rate it more highly. Felt I couldn't not leave a review after this evening, absolutely amazing beef brisket!
Popped in for lunch after visiting Gilbert Whites gardens. Clare had the Ham Egg & Chips & I ate the best Game pudding, Mash & gravy ever, enjoyed with a pint of championship beer. Clare had Chocolate fondant & reckons it was her best one to date! (& she's had a few) deffo return!
Cycled with my lad from Liphook to Liss , 2nd visit and burgers were as good the 2nd time around . The best burgers worth travelling , even cycling for !!
Lovely old english pub, brilliant place, fantastic in the summer if you have kids, a good pint, and the food is quality
I've only just moved to Liss with my girlfriend and this is the first pub we visited. We had no idea what to expect but we're glad we visited. The food was amazing! I can't remember the last pub we visited that had us going on about how nice the food was during the meal and still going on about it on the car journey home! The staff were all really friendly and helpful too! We will be back!
Great staff, so helpful and friendly. Wonderful food hot, tasty and plentiful. Look forward to meeting up with friends there again. πππ
Popped in on the way back from visiting family, I had fish n chip's which was delish and my other half had ham egg n chip's which he said was also very nice.
Lovely friendly staff, excellent service, we would highly recommend and we plan to return to try out their roast dinner which they are renown for.
Fantastic food and lovely people! Definitely recommend to everyone!
Had sunday roast dinner and could not fault it. Food was lovely and hot and plenty of it. Will definitely go again.
Very fast service, lovely food and a garden for the kids to play in. Will certainly be coming back here again soon
Good food at a good price and really friendly staff
Stopped in here on the way down south. Very nice burgers π. Quick, very friendly staff and and tasty food. Forgot to take pics of the food as it tasted too nice!
Great pub grub. π Good menu choices and food was great with a ample portion size. Nice atmosphere with a very traditional old pub style feel; πΊ Very friendly and welcoming staff. Plenty of free parking and large outside space for when the sun is out.
Went to the spread eagle for their quiz night. Such an amazing atmosphere and Steve was amazing with the quiz. Had such a good night with very quick service and amazing food. Will definitely be going back to try more items off of the menu and to try the Sunday roast. Loads of car parking spaces and have a lovely pub garden.
Ambient is very nice, in a quiet location.
There is plenty of free car parking as well.
The food is very good, but on my plate, the black pudding was a bit too dry, but not a reason to reduce from 5 stars.
The prices are affordable, and the atmosphere was great.
Good place to go to.
Discovered this lovely place by accident on our way home Saturday night. The food was great as was the service and ambiance. Excellent value for money. Will certainly be visiting again.
Just pulled off the A3 for lunch, and chose Liss because it was so close. What a find in The Spread Eagle! Beautiful quaint country pub in a little village. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Beautifully presented delicious food. Will definitely go back, and next time with the whole family, to make use of the extensive children's playground at the back.
Been going to the Spread Eagle for a couple years enjoying their fabulous burger offer on a Tuesday evening, we were not disappointed this week. The pub now under new ownership has changed the decor some what , now much lighter and brighter the cluttered window sills have been replaced with simple decoration. The pub maintains its character with the large open fire and wide bar area in the centre where we saw many regulars seated enjoying a drink or 2.The staff where very attentive and friendly the service was completed in a timely manner despite the restaurant being very busy at the time. Thank you Spread Eagle we will be back and recommend others visit, the food was great.
First time today coming to spread eagle and we were so impressed with everything! The staff was so lovely, the food was incredible and fresh, the play area is great for kids and loved the atmosphere! Would highly recommend and will definitely be coming back again soon
This place was recommended by a friendly neighbour whilst on holiday in Liss, so glad they did. Was def worth the trek!
- staff were nice enough, our table was shown to be reserved in advance.
- sunday roast was best ever had, great portion size and extra side dishes of creamy broccoli.
- outdoor space was lovely, even had kids playground, however a tad messy, lots of bottles not cleared.
- toilets were clean, but cubicles are very dark, only one had a window for light.
Otherwise lovely country experience!
Final verdict:
β Staff service: 4/5
β Food: 5/5
β Hygiene: 3/5
β Ambience: 5/5
β Price: £££
What a pleasant surprise I had when visiting a friend for lunch. We traveled to the UK from Bermuda to bring our daughter to Uni and met up with our friend from this area. This is the pub he chose for lunch and it was worth the drive!! My husband and I loved our meal very much. Thanks to our friend David for introducing us to such a fine place and I can honestly say that should I come back, this spot (as well as visiting David) will be on my list! Compliments to the chef!!
Very tasty food and a decent selection of beers. The Spread Eagle is situated on the outskirts of Liss and caters for families of all ages. There's a decent sized childrens play area outside, although it's starting to look a little tired, and the inside is well furnished and decorated in a traditional country pub style (advisory note: some plug points need to be looked at as one or two appeared to be loose and need refixing). We visited on a weekday lunchtime and the food was excellent. A well priced sharing platter and a battered fish sandwich (Γ la filet-o-fish) were ordered and they were served quickly and perfectly prepared (see images). There are daily Specials too and the dessert options, which we didn't have on this occasion, are usually worth considering. A highly recommended pub and well worth checking out if you're in the area.
The pub has been given a lovely fresh modern feel while keeping the country pub vibe. Busy, even mid-week, which is always a good sign. Food and service were excellent. Great beer too.
Came in for lunch. Had the rare beef and horseradish sandwich, which was excellent. Served with great chips.
Service was excellent and very friendly. Prices seemed fair.
Only minor downsides - coleslaw wasn't very good at all, also the beer selection wasn't great.
There's a great beer garden outside and lovely looking choldrens play equipment.
I will certainly be coming back and I'd recommend to friends.
A really nice pub. Understated. But really good (vegetarian) food: several options and much better than I expected.
Great pub lunch with excellent staff that we reassuringly strict with Covid guidelines. Excellent choice of gluten free main meals and the burgers were fantastic! Mixture of covered and open outdoor tables and a play area for the kids π
Wonderful food and so much choice! Very reasonably priced as well. We popped in on Sunday and despite not booking we were squeezed in even though it was very busy! Burger was lovely as was the whitebait, eyes bigger than belly so had to take the burger home, which they popped in foil and tupperware for me. Thoroughly looking forward to our next visit to try something else on the tasty menu!!!
Stopped off on the way back from a trip, what a lovely pub, food was spot on, staff were really friendly and polite, plenty of parking for the bikes, which you can see from the beer garden, bonus when you're fully luggaged up.
Some of the garden furniture could do with replacing, but didn't detract from our enjoyment.
You should be well proud of your staff, very professional.
Thanks.
Just stopped for a couple of drinks on route to old thorns great pub huge garden great service will definitely be returning didnβt have food but what was coming out look great so will return to sample it
