The next pub was the Wig and Mitre which was about 10 yards back down the “Steep Hill” away from the Magna Carta. Now we were starting to get back on track with some proper pubs serving some decent ales.

Stopped by for refreshments, didn’t try the food, but the bartender was very nice to us. He poured too much beer and it overflew the glass, so he poured is a new one. Thank you! The place is cozy. It was warmer downstairs, and upstairs was a bit chilly but more private.

Thursday evening Steak night. Fabulous Chateaubriand. Followed by in house prepared apple and cinnamon crumble and custard. Cooked beautifully, we had the upper end of the menu price wise but for the quality of the food great value. Friendly service, attentive. Overall a lovely evening, highly recommend.

What a lovely place to sit a while, eat and drink. The staff were friendly, the food was tasty, well presented, good value, homely and delicious. And it was especially good to be catered for safely as we're gluten and dairy free. We only spent 48 hours in Lincoln, we tried a few different establishments and the Wig and Mitre was our stand out favourite. We just kept gravitating back. Thank you very much! Tass and Ian

Amazing part of the city, steeped in character and charm both inside and outside the pub. Food is good and although they had delivery problems when I went, staff were still great at dealing with it.

A really lovely traditional pub. The drinks were very good and a good price. The food was extremely good, cooked perfectly and, despite us being warned of a long wait, arrived in really good time.

Food exceeded our expectations for a city centre pub. The chicken and ham pie with mustard seeds...a 'must have'! Cooked fresh, with mash and veg...very tasty. The burgers and hand cooked chips ....Guess what, that was good too! Great portion sizes too, so you will definitely feel like you have had your monies worth and tasty food ...also dog friendly. You must visit this pub if in Lincoln at any time. Betty served us and explained that she had taken over the pub 4 months ago.... thankyou for a fabulous service today. Will definitely visit again when next in Lincoln as prices were also good for what we had.

Fabulous building full of history and charm good seating arrangements for a group of 11. Our food was good I enjoyed the burger but we found the chips went cold quickly some crisp some had very soft. The unisex toilet on the first floor was particularly dirty around the toilet pan and general cleanliness. Payment was rather chaotic as no machine, but the young man dealt well once we went to the till.

My friends went to Steampunk festival pre Covid and raved about this place. We went tonight and found them right! All three dishes (we take Steak and ale pie, the Beef special and Fish pie) were absolutely lovely, the waiting staff was friendly and very welcoming and the whole experience was top-notch. Thank you!!!

This Mitre be one of the best in Lincoln! We know that’s a bold statement but stay with us. The fact we managed to get the last booking of the day and that walk-ins were still showing up shows that there’s something special going on here. As to what that is exactly, we have an idea. We looked for a good half an hour on Instagram and Trip Advisor for somewhere new to try out, but also somewhere that had a table free. Eventually, Wig & Mitre said they could get us in and lucky for us, it’s barely even 2 miles from our house. We ordered our Sunday Roasts and within 20 minutes our food arrived. It looked brilliant! We got 2 massive portions of beef and there were 5 reasonable pieces of pork. There were sitting on top of our roast potatoes, carrots, parsnips and cabbage which were all topped by a sizeable Yorkshire Pudding. The gravy wasn’t gravy, it was a red wine jus, but can we just say that it was delicious. It wasn’t rich or boozy, it was light and flavourful and worked well with the dish. We also ordered a side of creamed potatoes and cauliflower cheese. Again, there were no issues with either of these. There was just the right amount to cater for the two of us, but if you’re hoping it with do 3 or 4 people, you’ll have to order extra. Overall, we had a great time at the Wig & Mitre. We were well looked after by the staff and the food left a lasting impression on us. There was literally no issues with anything. Best Sunday Lunch in Lincoln? It’s up there in the Top 3 that we’ve ever had.

Good selection of food. A bit pricey but good quality and is in the middle of town. Service was good enjoyed our lunch there. The sausage and mash was nice but a little too much mustard in the mash! My husband had steak and horseradish pie but couldn't detect the horseradish at all and the pastry was hard! That's way only 4 stars for food.

What a fantastic, friendly, and deceptively large pub! We visited on the bank holiday Monday 8th May and the food was fantastic, hands down the best steak sandwich I've ever had. A perfectly toasted chiabatta with a generous strip sliced steak cooked just how I like it, covered in an amazing stilton, mushroom and garlic sauce with crispy fries and a bonus little soup on the side. Staff were all really welcoming and friendly and it was just generally a great experience, and reasonably priced to boot.
