Had my first experience of The Dowry yesterday when me and around 15 other lasses went in on my hen party day, we actually turned up 10 minutes or so after the kitchen had closed but they went out of their way to open it back up for us (thanks Helen!) and it didn’t disappoint! Lovely fresh food, cooked perfectly; and the atmosphere and decor are perfect! Amazing addition to the street! Will definitely be back!
Honestly one of the best meals I have had in Shetland. The evening menu is superb. Well thought out choices and served beautifully on the plate. The atmosphere was wonderful and we enjoyed great views over the harbour too. We were well looked after by Stuart and his team.
Well done The Dowry. We will be back.
Delicious food, great menu & friendly staff, we will definitely be back. Good luck to you all
Oh my word. Flavours at the dowry r fab! Luved our first evening meal there last nite. What a great place with great atmosphere. Well done Helen and all staff. Delish!
Had a super lunch da day. Food excellent as was the wine!! Superb place and friendly staff. Good luck guys
Fantastic and stylish Lerwick eatery. Coffee is excellent as is the service and atmosphere. A great selection of unusual and eclectic beers and spirits allied to the first class food makes this a must visit for any Shetland visitor or resident alike.
Amazing food and excellent service. Really good to see the place so busy, well done and best of luck for the future.
I’ve had a number of lunches, takeaways and a couple of ‘nighttime’ party’s involving some very fine food and ales(mostly ciders) over the last few weeks. A very comfortable establishment to sit in, the food is first class with a wide range of options available. There is any amount of different alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages for everyone’s tastes and the service is first class, polite, friendly and efficient........roll on a 2am weekend licence!!!!
Amazing food and delish coffee! Well done guys, my new fave place
Been in a couple of times in the last week. Such a super place to go and chill. Surroundings are beautiful, atmosphere is brilliant, food is delicious, staff are helpful, courteous, observant and hard working. Can't wait to go back.
Just been in for a sandwich, took a while but great customer service from the lovely man who served me, who apologised for the delay and even opened the door for me. Lovely atmosphere, very modern. Can’t wait to try the wine and cheese!

Everything about it is just lovely. Even the choice of background music! Thank you for bringing this to the street. And best wishes.
Excellent service, with great choice of food
Lovely decorated building, so light and airy
Good luck to the Dowry
Came in for lunch yesterday - food was very tasty and the atmosphere is lovely. Nice to have somewhere so modern and comfortable to eat in Apple matcha was amazing!
Food was absolutely fantastic. Great buzz about the place and just what the street was needing. This would have been a 5☆ review but unfortunately Foxy requires a lot of 'front of house training'. Maybe a 5 next time but a great start.
Very busy place, brilliant atmosphere, just buzzing
Decided to have something basic, a sandwich, but what an amazing sandwich
Bacon, cheese and chutney on Waas white bread, absolutely delicious
The chutney, Apple, macadamia and sultana, was exceptional, should be bottled and sold in store, absolute winner
Well done guys, keep it up, and I am sure you will succeed, be good to see later opening times too

Visited for the first time today, decor stylish and lovely views. Cake was delicious and the flat white the best I’ve had possibly ever. Will return for sure!

Delicious food and coffee, and a great atmosphere. Can’t wait to visit again!
Went for a relaxed late lunch - fantastic! The standards in Shetland continue to rise. Well done guys
Lovely place. Had the Cullen Skink soup and was lovely.
The Dowry is a pleasant bar/rastaurant in the centre of Lerwick. It is clean and nicely layed out and the staff were friendly, prompt and accurate.
The menu was quite varied and had something for most tastes. When the food arrived, it was nicely presented and tasted good.
Prices felt about right for the type of place and food we got.
All-in-all, pleasant and good on all fronts but nothing that was really stand-out.
We came in to the Dowry midday on a Saturday without a booking. The friendly manager was very accommodating and managed to squeeze us in within 40 minutes.
We had a delicious lunch. The food was fresh, flavourful and the service quick and efficient. Awesome experience, and we will be coming back!
Had a lovely meal on my solo trip to Lerwick. They made me feel very welcome and I really enjoyed what I ordered. I am a veggie so went for the cauliflower wings, salt and pepper fries and affogato accompanied by some great local gin. I went early evening and it was already getting busy so definitely book.
Lovely evening meal. Had mussels and salmon as a main. And the desserts were fabulous. Was very busy and we pleased we booked as they turned a number of people away.
Great atmosphere, but book in advance if you want to have a meal. Quite busy, but I have only popped in for a dram of Harris Gin with sugar kelp;) great accompanied with black coffee for a lovely afternoon reset.
A very modern, bright and light restaurant. The menu is a bit limited. We had fish and chips (very good) and two of us had the burger (which comes alone, no chips or salad). The burgers were quite good. We also ordered an order of chips (fries) which were unique in shape and delicious.
I don't think we have enjoyed a meal more at this price point than at the Dowry. We really liked the relaxed friendly service and atmosphere, the place was full of a mix of locals and visitors and on a Tuesday night! If you are lucky enough to get a window seat (you really need to be in a party of 4 or more) then the view of the waterfront is lovely.
The food is very very good, well presented and delicious. It's accompanied by a very good selection of drinks, interesting beers, wines and spirits. All excellent.
The dowry was lovely I was seated very quickly and the food came out fast the service was great and the burger I had wad lovely definitely worth trying
Had dinner here once. We had buttermilk chicken burger and the salmon on bed of curried vegetables. Both were very tasty. We had local beers which were also very nice. Didn't award full stars because the servers attitude wasn't good, she was abrupt and seemed to have no interest whatsoever in any of the customers. It wouldn't put me off eating there again though. I recommend booking a table if you can, we saw people turned away.
We were on Shetland for 2 days and went to the Dowry twice, it was that good! The first night we went for drinks and snacks. We had smoked almonds and crisps/ chips as the kitchen had just closed but they were delicious. Great gin and tonic with Shetland reel gin. I tried the Simmer and seaweed gins, both were great. They took the care to serve each with a particular tonic and garnish to suit the taste of the gin. My husband had the lerwick beer on tap. For lunch we had smoked salmon Flatbread which was great. Also had the hummus bowl. Very busy for lunch. So would recommend reservations if you can but they good us a table. Owner was very friendly welcoming both to the restaurant and Shetland.
You get a great view of the harbour if your table is at the back. Food was excellent and service was polite and efficient. Well priced menu with plenty of choices.
Lovely food with great flavour, the biscoff french toast is a must! The two servers were excellent and very friendly.
Absolutely lovely. Make a reservation ahead of time, but be prepared for the famous Shetland cheerful hospitality and delicious food. The haddock & frites was the best fried fish I’ve had anywhere in the UK.
This restaurant is, so far, the high point of our trip to Shetland . Be sure to book a table because they can be scarce now that the secret is out. From the cauliflower bites to mussels , to French toast brioche dessert, you will not be sorry . And the staff makes you feel welcome, at home.
The best place to have lunch and dinner in Lerwick..!!! Give the hats off to the brilliant Chef Helen Fullerton 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 we had dinner of 5 plates and two desserts between the three of us. Topped up with three gins and tonic that are well recommended by the friendly staff. Definitely a must visit restaurant in Lerwick!!
Fabulous place. Amazing food and great service. Good value for money. The best in the area oatmilk hot chocolate. Menu choice good and portion size generous. Sandwiches are excellent size with a lot of filling. Always 2 soups available and at least one gluten free. Not enough seating area so you might be sharing table with someone but that's never a problem. It is a very popular place during lunch. You can now pre book the table which is brilliant if you want to avoid waiting. Staff is always helpful and smiling.
Very busy spot and I can see why. Had a coffee here then booked a table for late lunch, the beef burger was amazing, staff are great. Highly recommend.
Great setting in the centre of Lerwick. Very modern, sleek long bar with ample amounts of alcohol to sample.
Book ahead if you’re keen to visit, esp on Fri/Sat evenings.
I ate:
Small plates: Rosemary focaccia, balsamic & Olive oil / Sweet tattie chips, paprika sea salt & maple mustard Mayo
Main: Shetland Smoked Haddock & Parmesan Croquettes & creamy butter leek sauce
Dessert: Local rhubarb poached in hibiscus, custard, tarragon, brandy snap & ginger crumb
My only negative was that 10 mins before our allocated time was up we were forced to take our drinks to another table so they could sit the next customers down. Although the waitress apologised it left a bit of a sour taste, which was a shame. We were also sat right next to the front door and some guys were coming in/out without face masks which was uncomfortable.
Started with a friendly and accommodating welcome. Coffee, food and service were all excellent. Already planning when we can come back! Thank you
