I found this place accidentally close to the train station in Leicester. I decided to give a chance to the Jamaican food coz I've never taste it. In Howie's I really ate a lot of good food. The portions are very generous, price is cheap and Howie was very friendly and nice with me. I hope the best for this place in the future.
One of those little hole in the wall gems. Food that tastes like it's been made with love and soul :)
Ordered fish, rice and dumplings. The service and the food was 5 star quality. Keep it up!
The best Jamaican meals! I didn't know I would be able to get food in England that tasted like Jamaican food until I ate the meals from this restaurant. It's like I am back in Jamaica. I am home away from home.
The guys at Howies sorted me out with one of the Natty Roots juices whilst on a deliveroo shift and it charged me up. Such clean energy! Thank you
I loved it support and love all the way.
100% Jamaican cuisine. Once you have tried you wouldn't want to go no where else outside of Jamaica
The food here is absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection. Nice, relaxed atmosphere too. The ackee and callaloo, rice and peas and jerk chik’n are particular highlights. Not as spicy as I like my Jamaican food but this is easily rectified by requesting a bottle of hot sauce.
First time here and had the best time, the food is exceptional, Ackee and saltfish was spicy but subtle, the curried goat melted away. A warning however, the loaded fries were so good you may not want to eat anywhere else again.
Went by today for a birthday lunch. The margarita cocktail was delicious and the food was so good! I’m normally not keen on ‘fake’ meat but the chicken was insane!! Between us we had the jerk chicken burger (so good), the loaded fries (they ran out of an ingredient but were really accommodating to make up for it!) and the mac and cheese (my favourite!). Will definitely return to try more things on the menu. Lovely service too :)
This restaurant is in the lovely Stoneygate are of Leicester. The food is based on Jamaican ital food recipes. The food was lovely and the restaurant has a lovely vibe. A must place to eat
Went here tonight after reading all the good reviews and was not disappointed.
Great ambience, lovely staff and the food was absolutely delicious 😋 as a vegetarian and a lover of carribean food it was brilliant but even if you eat meat its still great for the flavour they get into the food. We will be back🔥
The food was very tasty. The restaurant has a nice ambience. Staff were kind and helpful. Definitely come back to this restaurant
Cute ambiance! Omnivore restaurant which used to be vegan, but vegan options available. Delicious! Place was empty though on a Thursday. Will happily return!
For non meat eaters who love Caribbean food, this place is a must. I have visited twice and both times the food tasted amazing. Great consideration is given to seasoning the dishes so that meals have their own identity and don't taste all the same. The quality of the ingredients is good too with plantain and fried breadfruit served at just the right ripeness. The patties are tasty and the pastry crumbly with a beautiful amber hue. For beer drinkers the stout is good. I'm hoping one day they'll create a vegan Guinness Punch style drink. It so good ordering quality Caribbean food, knowing that everything on the menu is vegan. Warning!!! Tables book up quick at weekends, although they are able to offer a small number of seats for walk-ins. Thank you Wha Gwan, so proud this has happened in Leicester.
First let me say how wonderful it is to have a place where you can get authentic great taste 😋 CARIBBEAN FOOD. Arriving here we myself and my wife we were greeted with a warm and friendly welcome and we were made to feel confident that things would be good here and that it was too, the staff were very friendly helpful and polite and professional too. Now let me say a big thank you for the lovely food the curry goat was very nice just maybe a fewer bones but still 😋 nice the cocktails 🍸 were very good and you have a good selections which is good 👍🏿. We're looking forward to returning very soon I'm spreading the word to as many as possible to visit your place and I hope you continue to keep the standards up. Blessings and all the best wishes 🙏🏿 for the future one love 💚💛🖤.
First time at this venue. The staff were excellent with the correct level of help and assistance. They also tried very hard to meet our requests. I enjoyed the food but would have valued more spice. A quiet night but we had a nice booth, and the venue was very nicely decorated. I will come back for more.
I visited Gwan Easy yesterday with a friend and had two items from the festive tapas menu, Mac and Cheese balls and Wagwan Wings, WOW 10/10!! Fresh, hot, great tasting food. I was pretty hungry so had these as a starter and then the Oxtail with rice and peas for dinner, this comes served with steamed veg and 2 x plantain. WOW! compliments to the chef, I told her to her face that this food is amazing cause she deserved to know.
I struggled for carribean food in the city prior to discovering Gwan Easy often travelling to nearby cities Nottingham, Coventry, Birmingham but now there is no need again!
Make sure you come down to Gwan Easy!!
Thank you Nikola and Kerry
Great service
Great food.
First time eating in, this evening. Food was delicious, nicely presented, fresh, good portion sizes. Cocktails were also very good. Not very busy, service was great, will go again and would recommend. Nice atmosphere and ambience.
The service was absolutely amazing and the food was delicious! I visited with my small family, and the atmosphere was kid friendly which I appreciated. If you are looking for Caribbean home cooking this is the place to visit!
My husband and I had a trip to Leicestershire and while we were there we decided to find somewhere to eat before heading home. We googled “Carribean restaurants” and found this little place “Gwan easy” and we are so pleased we did, it is only a small place but it is so beautifully set out and the food mmmm “absolutely delicious” my husband, who is black and knows good Jamaican food, had curry goat and I had the oxtail and it didn’t disappoint, just simply delicious. We also had some really good cocktails. Thank you to all staff for your warm, friendly, welcoming hospitality, a really great find for us xx “we’ll be back”
We had a lovely meal at this warm and welcoming restaurant. The place is quite cosy so do book ahead. The food is just incredible! We ordered the jerk bites with a side of mac'n'cheese which was like heaven on a plate. The staff are friendly and service was good. There was a slight error with our order but it was dealt with immediately and they even took the item off our bill. I can't recommend this place enough, we'll definitely be returning.
Food is brilliant. We had a goat curry with rice and peas, steamed greens and a jerk chicken with white rice, steamed veg and coleslaw. The food was all gluten free and really nice.
Would definitely recommend and lots of vegan and gluten free options.
I had the jerk chicken, rice n peas, with dumplings. The place looks really smart, you wouldn't believe it from the outside. The food came out quickly and tasted great! I had the curried goat last time which I would recommend.
