Decent
An enjoyable meal, with just the right mix of chilli, seasoning, and good beer. Service was fast, considering the size of our group, and the menu offered an impressive range of choice. I'd happily return.
Absolutely loved our meal here. Stunning interiors and great food, can’t wait to go back for more. Felt the dishes were overpriced for the quantity. Definitely not the place you want to visit if you want to go in for a quick meal or something that’s light on your pocket. But for a fine dine, this one is a great option.

I am scratching my head for another one !!!
Had a great lunch at Sukhothai. They serve the Thai equivalent of a Bento box and it was perfect for me. It includes two starters, two mains and rice for 12.50. I found it perfect as I always like to try different things and did not have to make as many compromises.
My starters were a chicken satay and marinated pork on a skewer. Both were excellent.
My mains were a thai chicken curry and a a beef dish. The curry was fantastic and I am not a big curry fan, it was what I was least looking forward to but probably ended up being my favorite. Excellent flavor and a lot of meat, ate all my rice just to capture the curry sauce. The beef was the opposite, a little disappointing. It was boiled and just did not have much flavor.
Ideally, rather than choosing between three set boxes, I would have liked to pick the starters and mains from all that were available but that is the restaurants choice and I was very happy with what I received. Great option for Thai in Leeds.
Sometimes an impromptu evening can make for the best kind. It was the monthly Yelp supper club, and our original plans had fallen through. In such an emergency, the troops were assembled to Friends of Ham to discuss where we might eat instead. Everyone gathered, drinks were had, and a plan was formed to go adventuring for tapas near Greek street. Sukhothai was plan B, and since plan A had not come to pass, plan B it was.
I now have a feeling that plan B will always make for the best plan.
As soon as you wander in, the word opulent comes to mind. Where Tampopo once stood looking tired, a glorious, glittery, and lavish restaurant now stands in its stead. The carved wooden statuette in a glass box, opposite the bar, is absolutely beautiful. And the service is second to none - the moment we arrived we were greeted and treated wonderfully.
We were seated within a few minutes, despite nine of us dropping in to dine, and drink orders were readily taken. We then spent a good few minutes deliberating the large menu, before choosing. Usually I go for the Thai green curry. Being as that's a staple, I decided to go for the Weeping Tiger steak - I've had it once before elsewhere, and hoped that it would be as fantastic as the first time.
Despite oddities, such as the lights above our table periodically brightening in a slow motion disco, the ambiance was wonderful. (And we were offered another place to sit, although chose to remain - it was quite amusing.) Before long our food arrived, in just enough time for a natter, but not so long we would be famished.
And my steak came on a sizzling hot plate, full of delicious veg, accompanied by a mini pad Thai. And it was incredible. My only regret is that I asked for it medium rare - I should have gone rare - but even that didn't stop it from being utterly tasty. The meat was clearly excellent quality, and I don't even know how to describe the taste and aroma of the spices and sauce that accompanied it. Pak choi is now a firm favourite in the vegetable world, too.
Every mouthful was succulent, and barely a mouthful remained on my plate. It was fantastic! I couldn't recommend this place more. It's perfect for a large gathering, and intimate and beautiful enough for a date. The open kitchen is another lovely touch, and the staff really couldn't have done more for us. The company was excellent, as a few of us Yelpers welcome some new folk along, and the whole evening was a delight.
They even brought out a birthday cake, as a late birthday surprise for Natalie O! (But sadly we didn't get the chanting parade, which we saw when we came in. Next time!)
I'm definitely a fan!
After our meat feast at MEAT Liquor on our Saturday evening in Leeds, we were looking for something a little bit different for the Sunday - slightly more upmarket, with a sense of special occasion. After consulting many Yelp listings, we happened upon Sukhothai.
We were warmly welcomed and shown to our table, which unfortunately was next to one or two large parties, though they weren't too loud, so we could still talk. It being a Sunday, they did have a buffet option available (which seemed to be a weekly thing) but instead we ordered from the a la carte.
We shared the satay platter to start - beef, chicken and pork - which was served with the delicious peanut sauce, but also a small fresh salad and spicy soy sauce. It was great to have a choice as each sauce worked differently with each meat, and I think the presentation was well done; not thrown on to the plate, but also not overwrought with 'restaurant' touches.
My main green curry really packed a spice kick, meaning I had to slow down a touch compared to my usual eating pace, but this simply allowed me to enjoy it all the more. It was packed with chicken and chunky vegetables, meaning it was really filling and, although a large portion, still felt at least borderline healthy. The massaman curry was milder, though still with plenty of heat, and again we were pleased with the meat to vegetable ratio. The sticky rice was perfect for mopping up the large amounts of sauce we both had left at the end.
Service was good throughout, and we were checked up on at all the regular intervals, though we did have to catch an eye to order additional drinks.
Sukhothai will definitely be on my list for my next trip to Leeds as it seems to be able to cater for every occasion.
It has to have the full 5 stars. It is consistently good.
I have tried a fair few things on this vast menu and they are all cooked beautifully and presented amazingly. Even better presentation then I have had at other branches.
There are so many lovely finishing touches that these guys provide which just makes it a lovely and delicious evening out. Including but not limited to; cleaning the tables after each course, always ensuring drinks are full and you are not parched, recommending food or complimentary dishes but only when asked so not forceful, a great birthday treat - I had it last time and this time they did it for my friend, nice waiting area, lovely decor and or course good drinks.
What tips this into a definite 5 star is how inexpensive it is for such a great place.
Died and gone to Thai food Heaven.
We walked in through the huge front door and I mean huge!
We were seated in the reception area while our table was made ready.
I have never tried Thai food before and I was a bit apprehensive as I have only heard of mainly hot spicy food being served.
Everyone else was discussing what dishes they like and I felt a bit out of my depth.
The staff were great as they didn't fuss around us or try to rush us.
After some deliberation I ordered Chicken Pad Gratium Prik Tai. Which was chicken marinated in spices, peanut sauce and something else which now escapes me.
I also ordered a Chan beer as I had never tried that before.
People were ordering a varied array of dishes and I couldn't wait to see what everyone's looked like.
They gave us all chilled water and then the drinks order was served. Chan beer is like a lighter Tiger Beer. It was very nice.
Then my food arrived. It looked amazing. I also ordered boiled rice with my meal.
It may have looked amazing but it tasted outstanding.
The flavours were rich without being too spicy. The texture of the chicken was spot on.
I have had some Chinese meals where the chicken was very watery but this was super fresh. The peanut sauce stop on too and all in al, the meal was way better than I expected.
After the food was finished and we all got round to talking I never once felt that they were hovering sho us out of the restaurant.
Then seeing as it was Natalie O's birthday they came out with a little birthday treat for her. We all sang happy birthday.
The staff were really lovely. Even offering to take photos for us.
I am definitely coming here again.
10 out of 10.
This place is one of my fav's! The food here is bordering on perfection, I've visited this beaut a ton of times.
As soon as you enter the service is excellent, everyone is always ultra-welcoming and downright efficient!
The menu is vast, there are some great options. Anything with duck = bliss! But anything you order won't be a disappointment. Every time I go we're amazed at the speed they get food out - no idea how they do it, but its quick!
If you fancy sublime thai food, that's good value, then check out this tasty destination!
Came here with my boyfriend for a belated Valentines Day dinner and had the best time!
Started off with cocktails at the bar, the guys clearly know what they're doing! One of the best mojitos I've ever had!! They use thai whisky instead of rum and honestly I actually ask for whiskey now instead.
So a good start! We had booked (thank goodness) and it was definitely full that evening but our server said that was normal to definitely call ahead of you don't want to wait. The service was great, they staff were very friendly without be intrusive but we're always close by if you wanted something. Basically the perfect combo!
And then the food. Oh. My. Goodness. Hands down some of the best Thai food I've had the pleasure of eating. The curry was amazing, looked great and tasted so fresh! Not too spicy either so you could actually taste all the flavours. I had a glass of white wine which was also good, the boyfriend had a thai beer (which he talks me is one of his favourites!)
All in all a great meal, will definitely be going back!!
Went here recently for a date with my girlfriend. It was a thursday so wasn't too busy and we managed to get a big table to ourselves. We were greeted quickly and with a lovely smile by the friendly manager who was wonderful throughout the whole meal.
We ordered a number of different dishes and they were all presented very well (the best from a thai place so far).
The flavours and cooking were very good and the general atmosphere of the beautiful restaurant made for a very relaxed meal.
Would definitely come here again.
I've been really enjoying going to Yelp Supper Club. Not only do I get to try a bunch of new restaurants and meet some new faces on the day, but leading up to it I also get to say things like, "Oh, I can't that night, I have supper club." which instantly makes me feel like a sophisticated grown-up.
This week, through a series of unfortunate events turned fortunate, we ended up changing our venue for Yelp Supper Club to Sukhothai and boy was I glad we did! My first experience of Sukhothai was at Unity Day a week or so ago. They had a food truck there and I ordered the Pad Thai Gai which was a hearty portion full of flavour. I also got to sample their Lime Iced Tea which was sweet nectary goodness in a glass. I knew they had a couple of restaurants in Leeds and if the restaurant alternative was anything like the food truck, I knew I'd be wowed.
And I was. The decor is spectacular here. It's so grand, you can't help but be flabbergasted as soon as you walk in through the huge door. There were quite a few of us and we hadn't booked, but they managed to sit us very easily and we got a table quite near the kitchen. They have a huge window where you can watch them cook, but it blocks out the noise/smells so it's not overwhelming at all. I couldn't resist ordering the Pad Thai again. I wanted to choose something a little less safe, and there were so many tasty things on the menu, but the truth is I just really wanted to taste the Pad Thai again after my previous tasting! And it didn't disappoint. it looked so incredible when it came out. A huge plateful with little containers of chilli and nuts so you can make it as spicy or nutty as you like and it had a sort of egg lattice on top too, which made it look so fancy. Everyone really enjoyed their meals. The service was fantastic - so thoughtful & personal. I can't wait to head back here for more!
It's been a while since I've written a review, and it's nice to kick off a fresh new batch with one full of glowing praise. Because I tell ya, that's pretty much all I've got for Sukhothai!
Last night was the monthly Leeds Supper club arranged by the lovely Rowena. We'd originally planned to go to Distrikt but due to it being booked out for a private party we had to have a change of plan.
Just walking down the street and seeing the sheer decadence of Sukhothai is a beautiful thing in itself. No exaggeration, it looks like something from the Forbidden City or the backdrop of oriental epics like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Mysterious, alluring and powerful, much like the far-east itself.
Near the door there's a 3D wooden scene of a dragon battling against a churning sea, a sheet of water shimmering like a dream above it. We all stared in wonder at it as the lovely staff busied to and fro to ready our table. Despite us being a big group of people, we mustn't have waited more than 5 minutes to be seated, which is nothing short of awesome.
I must admit I was on a little bit of a budget and this place is certainly not one of the cheaper places in town, but believe me when I say you get what you pay for. Y'know when you eat a meal that's so delicious you can relive the taste days, months, years later? I know that's what I've taken away from the delicious peanut chicken curry I ate 9number 29 on the menu if you fancy it!) just sublime, and despite it not being a huge portion I was full for a good while after leaving. What more could you want?
Great ambience, gorgeous food, beautiful staff and lovely memories - will definitely be coming back!
You can spend a few hours in Thailand just by soaking up the decor and Thai aroma of the delicious food served up by the authentically dressed Thai staff in Sukhothai. This is the most impressively decorated Thai restaurant I have been to in the UK and really made me feel like I was in a 5* hotel restaurant somewhere in Thailand - if only! I wish I could have fit one of the buddha statues in my pocket!
I came here for the Sunday all you can eat buffet for £12 and boy was it worth it. Sukhothai served up quite a selection of some of the finest Thai dishes from soups, to meat, seafood and salads and freshly chopped fruit and sweet desserts for pudding. The staff were really attentive and friendly, ensuring your table was cleared by the time you got back from another buffet round. Thai food is my favourite and the only thing that stopped me going up for a 6th round - yup, number 6 - was that I had to waddle out of there to catch a train!
Have I seriously not reviewed Sukhothai?!? What's wrong with me!
Leeds has an abundance of excellent Thai restaurants and Sukhothai is one of two that I go to most often.
I know what I like at Thai restaurants - vegetable tempura, chicken pad thai, green curry, that beef dish with chilli (can never remember the name) etc.
I usually treat myself to some of the above when I'm back in Leeds and it is always superb.
The quality if the food is what makes the difference. It's really fresh and light and completely satisfying every time.
I've never eaten in at Sukhothai as I always get my food to take out (not sure why) but will make sure I do at some point. Can't wait!
First time in Leeds and tried the first restaurant in city center. Excellent food, service and price/quality.
I've been to sukothai a few times over the last few years. The food is excellent, and it's particularly nice to try the specials that pop up from time to time, with a lamb shank curry dish being a definite highlight. The food is reasonably priced, and the staff are always friendly and helpful. The only let down is that they can be rushed during busy times, and are keen for you to finish if there is a number of people waiting to be seated. For authentic Thai in the city centre, it's hard to beat.
I am by no means a connoisseur of Thai cuisine but Sukhothai stood out for me from the other Thai cooking I have enjoyed. Service was precise and pleasant and the food was simply fabulous.
The most daunting element of the evening was choosing what to order from a fairly long menu. The plus side was that everything sounded delicious but that did not make the decision making process any easier. Fortunately, I benefited with what must be a fair amount of beginners luck as the food that arrived was just as good as it sounded. Perfectly cooked duck accented by clearly defined Thai flavours.
In fact, everything was so good that I want to return to sample the rest of the menu as soon as possible!
I visited sukothai in Leeds and I have to say this is my new favourite place. Firstly the decor when you walk in is warm and inviting and very traditional, the staff are authentic and friendly. Service was brilliant and food was brought to the table in a timely manner, now to the food....amazing!! The presentation, the flavours and smells are just fantastic. They are good sized portions and very filling, I honestly wasn't expecting to love this place as much as I do and I will most definitely be back. Only thing to be careful about is the parking outside cos we got a ticket but that's nothing to do with the restaurant, can't fault this place at all, well done sukothai, you made this an extremely pleasant experience and have a customer for life now
We visited here for a date night as we both love Thai food. Our table was booked for 8PM on a Friday night, we walked into the waiting area/bar where there were several other parties waiting for a table. Our table wasn't ready when we got there so we were offered a seat at the bar where we ordered a bottle of wine. This was ok for us, because there were two seats at the bar, but all other seats were taken up by people waiting already. Some parties that arrived after us had to stand up and wait, which made the entrance feel crowded and unorganised. We ended up getting to our table at 8:25pm, not a big deal for us, but it may have been for people with plans after the meal.
The menu offers a very large choice, there was something for everyone, and plenty of vegetarian options too. When we got seated at our table we were asked if we would like some prawn crackers for the table, which we agreed to. We didn't find out there was a charge for these until the received the bill, it would have been a nice gesture to have these on the house for being seated to our table late. They were also £3.75, which for the size of the portion, we felt was quite steep. For starters, we ordered the Sukhothai dumplings which came with a sweet soy sauce. The sauce was lovely, but the dumplings didn't have too much flavour. We also ordered the Phed Mango (duck breast with mango sauce) which, in our opinion, was overcooked as it was more grey in colour than the pink you expect when ordering duck breast. We did like that the waiters completely cleared and wiped the table down after we had finished our starters, the service was very good we must say, staff were prompt and very polite, always ensuring you were catered for.
For the mains we had the Chicken Pad Thai and the Sweet and Sour Chicken with sticky rice. The portion sizes were very generous and were tasty.
All in all, the experience and the food was good but a few minor details have prevented us giving this restaurant a perfect 5 star rating, however, we would definitely recommend and return again ourselves.
The food is so good!! Tastes exactly like food in Thailand (I’m Thai so I would know haha!) but yeah overall the service was amazing and the staff are so kind and welcoming.
This is the best restaurant in Leeds! Food is always excellent, service is very fast and atmosphere feels great, it has a very fancy, elegant vibe! Perfect place to celebrate special occasions.
Food was lovely, service was very good but a little slow but this was due to them being very busy. Staff were great!! Fantastic assortment of food on the menu. If you like Thai food then I'd certainly recommend giving this restaurant a try.
Lovely place for date night. Attentive staff. Extensive menu with freshly prepared items. My favourite thai restaurant up north! We would definitely recommend and revisit.
This is, without a doubt, one of our favourite Thai restaurants. Time after time, we always receive excellent service and food. The atmosphere is always incredible and lively.
A place I will continue to visit and dine until I can't or they stop.
Thank you, again for making my little boys birthday very special.
One of the finest Thai restaurants I have visited... The service and reception was mind blowing... Everyone had beautiful smiles on their faces...
The food looked amazing, the taste was out of this world and great quality... I had a lot to eat and drink...
If you are looking for a fancy and beautiful place to chill, on a date, dinner or a small gathering... Go check it out.
5 stars well earned...
We visited here for the first time yesterday 3.2.24 and i have to say from start to finish the whole experience was fantastic, the food was amazing, the restuarant wasean and inviting and the staff were very friendly
Great service and delicious food. My first time at Sukhothai and it did not disappoint.
My partner is vegetarian, she could not of been happier with the variety of dishes she had to choose from.
For starters I went for the prawn and pork dumplings, they were full of flavour and portion size was just right.
My partner went for the spring rolls which were perfect. Nice and crispy packed full of flavour.
For mains I went with Pad Gra Pao, portion size was just right plenty of king prawns. If I had to pick a fault I'd say the sauce could of been a little spicier. But overall it was great dish.
My partner went with Thai yellow curry (veggie) which she thoroughly enjoyed, again portion size was just right.
We shared two sides which were jasmine rice and noodles, both were great.
Staff were amazing so polite and made sure drinks were always full.
It's a thumbs up from us and would recommend to anyone going to Leeds to try this place!
