What a hidden gem this is - the staff could not have been more accommodating. We ate our evening meal in the hotel taking the 3 course option, the food was well cooked, hot and plentiful, tip to the wise, make sure you are hungry as the portions are generous. The locals including teenage school children were an absolute delight, friendliness that we have not experienced in a long time. Glasgow councillors should visit to see how a council can be ran and how our well earned money could be spent; clean streets, empty bins and well maintained common areas including greenery! If you get the chance, visit this delightful area and if time and funds permit, eat or even better stay in the hotel! The rooms are not the biggest but they are clean and comfortable with common areas to sit / relax and have coffee or something stronger! You wont be disappointed - we will definately return.

Stayed here for 1 night on the way up to the west coast of Scotland. We arrived a bit late at 19:40 and was asked if we wanted a meal as the kitchen was closing at 8 which I thought was a nice touch πŸ˜ƒ the food we ordered wasn't the best as the mash potato was a bit hard and so were the vegetables, but as the kitchen was closing it was probably food cooked through out the day. The staff here are very friendly πŸ‘ the room was very nice and had all the little extras, shower was really good and the beds were very comfortable πŸ˜€ only problem I noticed was cobwebs in the bathroom which should have been noticed and cleaned. We had a room facing the road which can get noisy at times but wasn't a massive problem, if your a light sleeper maybe book a room away from the road. The breakfast was really nice πŸ˜‹ overall the hotel is really good πŸ‘Œ and would definitely stay here again if travelling in and around Scotland.

Great food , got the fajitas first , if you get them put all sauces in for best experience but give you small amount of cheese, 9/10 would recommend if you like good food for not horrible prices, second day got the Rosie pork would recommend but get the potatoes. Day 3 last day got the fish and chips not as good but still very nice. Rooms very clean and good views, and for the breakfast buffet .. 10/10 - kersh Also I loved the staff very friendly.

Lovely country Scottish hotel in the borders. Friendly staff, good food and hospitality. Has own car park. Very chilled. Not too pricy but very traditionally full of class.

Our group had booked three rooms for the Festive Special comprising 2 nights bed and breakfast, afternoon tea and Christmas dinner. Langholm is a lovely town with a long and interesting history. The Eskdale Hotel is in a well appointed location right in the middle of the town. The building was always warm and very clean and comfortable, which was extra important for my 91 year old mother. We were made to feel welcome by John and John and all the staff we had contact with. The menu was varied and the food plentiful and delicious. We even awoke to Christmas Stockings hanging on our doors on Christmas Day. A thoughtful, personal touch. Such a shame that the rail strike meant that 9 rooms which had been booked went unoccupied. Such actions have an extensive knock on effect to other businesses and individuals. We were all very pleased with our stay and intend another visit very soon. Thanks again John and John. Dave

Very accomodating and helpful as we popped in for coffee and Cake 🍰 with our 8 week old grandson. The bar man (unfortunately didn't get his name) found us a table away from the patrons at our request, as we did not want to disturb there enjoyment - all this was done with a smile and politeness. Will definitely call again when passing through, also their menu and room rates look very good and reasonable.

Myself and my partner booked a two nights stay. Our expectations were surpassed, the food was amazing! So much so we didn’t eat anywhere else! The breakfast included a varied continental buffet, and also a cooked Scottish breakfast. The main evening meals were faultless, still dreaming of the fantastic homemade steak pie, delicious. Very reasonably priced too. The room itself was very comfortable, cosy and we thought the robes and slippers were a nice touch, aswell as the Arran Aromatics toiletries. The only thing I could suggest to improve the facility, would be a small fridge in the bedroom. Special mention to the fantastic staff in particular John and Az and not to forget the lovely locals to Langholm, who made us feel very welcome and comfortable. They were a big part of making our stay so enjoyable. We both look forward to returning.

We stayed for one night only in early Sep 2022. From check-in to check-out we felt very well cared for. The staff was friendly and super helpful. The building is old but very charming, the rooms were nicely furnished, well sized and clean, the bathroom was fairly new. The food is excellent. The area seemed nice for short or longer walks and the location is excellent for day trips, for example to the borderlands, Gilnockie Tower or the Hadrian Wall and many more. We are certainly planning to return.

Staying in a cottage in the area and booked in for dinner here last minute as we didn't fancy cooking. The town was *very* quiet, and the hotel looked like it had seen busier days, so we weren't expecting much. Main restaurant was shut but the kitchen was open and they were seating diners in the slightly dated bar area. The one staff member attending everyone was friendly, cheerful and faultlessly competent, and the food was honestly a million miles better than we were expecting. Perfectly cooked, generous portions, appealingly presented, clearly homemade and in a good way (I had a lemon meringue pie for dessert which was an individual pie, freshly torched). All in all, a very pleasant surprise and we would happily eat there again.

Stayed here on a cycling trip. It was a last minute booking and I arrived late in the evening. It was a warm oasis on a cold autumn night! The staff were really helpful and went out of their way to make up comfortable. The hotel is very traditional but very charming. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable. The owners have clearly made efforts to bring modern conveniences where practical - like USB sockets for charging. I would gladly stay again.

Turned up with no reservation when they were already very busy, but as there was only 2 of us, there was ripple of hurried activity from a few of the staff/management and within a few minutes we were sat at a table in a tastefully decorated and nicely lit dining room and presented with well laid out menus with clear explanations of each dish. Off to a good start and it only got better. The service was attentive without being over the top and the food was exceptional!! Stuffed mushroom starter with Stornoway black pudding and red onion marmalade was delicious and devoured in just a few minutes. Followed by dishes of duck breast and lamb cutlets and there respective sauces and accompaniments, all perfect. All finished with the indulgent delights of a Belgian waffle smothered in a caramel sauce with a generous dollop of a Premium vanilla ice cream and garnished with a fresh halved strawberry(can you tell that I liked this) Forgive me but eating this may have resulted in one or two noises similar to those overheard from a honeymooner's bedroom. Which is sort of appropriate as we had just got married the day before. To the management and staff of the Eskdale, thank you so much for fitting us in. It was a truly wonderful experience and we will be back! But we will book in advance next time ;-)

Very traditional hotel with nice modern touches. Situated right in the heart of the lovely town. All of the hotel was spotlessly clean and nicely decorated and our room was very comfy and spacious. The food at breakfast and evening meal was exceptional, with all produce being locally sourced. Every member of staff we spoke to was friendly and helpful. We were made to feel very welcome and very much look forward to returning to this very special hotel.
