Friendly staff. Clean and well kept. Good food which even caters for vegans! Nice selection of local non-commercial craft beers on draft - even an organic larger (Samuel Smith)!. A pub designed with socialising in mind, mobile-phone free zone, complimentary board games provided. The pub gives an honorary tradition to General George Smith Patton (1885-1945) who frequented the Whipping Stock and as paid a full years subscription for a flower arrangement on the table where he used to sit. A worthy visit if your in the area.

No food on Monday and no payment by card below 20 pounds - misses the 5 the star. It's managed by a family and are very nice to talk. The food is something I am yet to try but was recommended by many that is good. The beer served is inexpensive compared to the other restaurant around Knustford.

Excellent food and good beer at sensible prices and it's worth going just to see the pub interior.

Great value, home cooked food, not straight out of a microwave bag like so many pubs in the area. Staff are also lovely. Still cash only and we needed to book to get a space in the beer garden as we had a dog with us.

Amazing beer and a wonderful garden to enjoy it in during the 2 days of summer we have :)

(Forgive the late review) We went here for a lovely meal on the 25th September 2020 and we couldn’t fault it. Staff were lovely, food was great, and we were treated to a nice bit of history about the place by a gentleman that I think was the landlord. Lovely experience and we’ll be happy to go back once restrictions have eased . 😊

This pub is a real find! The location is a little out of the way but great for walkers, dog walkers and those travelling in a car. There's a big car park and big beer garden. Outside and inside the pub looks like a high end pub, exceptionally clean, very warm and welcoming with the real log fires. What really shocked us was the prices! its so cheap its amazing! Drinks choices are limited to the brewery's own brand and there was only one red wine to choose from but it was nice. 3 drinks and change from £10! The staff at the pub are lovely and you can tell they work really hard and really go out of their way on a quiet evening to get to know those sat at the bar. We didn't eat there but their is a basic menu and the food did look good. Would definitely return. Ray and Helen are brilliant!

Thank you for excellent hospitality early 2020. We went off our way a bit on a walk, arriving here just as it got dark and we couldn't safely walk back to our car. The staff were very helpful and arranged for a taxi to take us back to our car. We enjoyed a drink by the log fires and look forward to returning again when we can relax a bit and learn how to read a map!

A very nice, tradional English country pub with great staff and a nice relaxed atmosphere. Great beers (Samuel Smith's) at very competitive prices. A lovely tree-lined private beer garden. Toilets are very clean and modern. You'll be met by a nice open fire on colder days too. Top marks. Well done!
