I came to the St Ola to get some food before my ferry. Service was great. I had 2 pints (Banyan) and a haggis burger. It was fantastic, fast, hot and under £20. Best haggis I have had in ages - very moist. Staff are lovely. Highly recommend!

Having travelled to Orkney for the very first time it was great to be welcomed to the St Ola Hitel as if I had been going for years. Large double room with a view out into the harbour was clean, comfortable and very reasonably priced.... bed was very very comfy.... travelling the U.K. as I do, believe me I've stayed in some pretty awful places that are twice the price.... so with free wifi, a great "front bar" showing the football which is always a bonus the hotel ticked plenty boxes and with the "back" bar (lounge/restaurant) being equally as good I was pleased at my choice...however there's a but...... but........ the food..... was..... magic! Giant burger, homemade slaw, crispy onion rings and fries... for the cost of a motorway cafe coffee & cake (sarcasm) was fantastic. Service was excellent. Value for money was "on the money". Breakfast was top drawer with a quality full plate of usual fry up fare....totally set me up for the day! I would highly recommend staying or at the very least eating out at the St Ola. With a view to making regular trips to Kirkwall for business I don't need to try any other hotels in the area now....I'll be staying and eating here! Thanks to all and have a very merry Christmas and a prosperous new year.

My husband and I visited the St. Ola restaurant tonight and had an absolutely gorgeous meal served by a lovely young man called Daniel. He was extremely courteous, attentive and looked after us very well. The haddock was simply beautiful, fresh and very tasty followed by the Orkney ice cream with orkney fudge, Mmmm fudge heaven...... a must if visiting Orkney, you won't be disappointed!

We always seem to end up in here when we can’t get in Helgis. Which sounds a shame. Great food and ale in the St Ola, and great service. Only criticism- too many TV screens.

We spent Sunday afternoon looking for a roast or similar, there didn't appear to be too much in the area, until we found this place. The pie, veg, and mash are outstanding. When the meal first came out, I thought there was a giant cooked potato, which I thought was a bit odd. I cut into it and realised it was actually mash shaped into a potato. The pie was so nice and the meat was endless. Fantastic work guys keep it up 👍

***Review for the restaurant only*** Staff, food quality and atmosphere were all absolutely fantastic. Small kitchen (which we were warned about by staff beforehand) so it can take longer than some people are used to for food to arrive, but when it does, *WOW*. Amazing value for money, beautiful food, staff couldn't be more helpful. Cannot recommend enough.

We came to the St Ola restaurant after touring Orkney for the day. It's a nice casual place, and the food is top choice! I had the Cajun chicken burger, cooked perfectly and lots of flavor and spice. It had a nice side of salad and fries. My man had the steak pie, also amazing. For dessert we had the cheesecake of the day, orkney fudge. OMG, best cheesecake I've ever had w a side of the best ice cream I've ever had. We both agree this is by far the best food we've had so far in Scotland. Prices are great, I'd highly recommend this place and I'd come back in a heartbeat. Note: We didn't stay in the hotel so can't really speak to the rooms, but the restaurant was awesome.

The beef chilli burger is quite possibly the best burger I’ve ever had in Orkney. Top marks to the chef 👌

A great hotel in the heart of Kirkwall. Clean and comfortable. Staff are very friendly and nothing is too much to ask. They’re all a real great bunch of people. Heater was very good in our room. Bar downstairs closes at 1am but noise isn’t too bad and didn’t hinder my sleep. But equally great if you like to party a bit. Picture below is of nighttime view from front of hotel as I didn’t take any pictures inside.

Super staff in all ways both in the hotel and restaurant. We had dinner one night and went elsewhere on night two - wish we had stayed! The cleaning staff was spot on and very helpful. Yep, it's an old building with some quirks. The shower is small but the water's hot. We would stay here again.

We had booked our table for 6.30pm. We had an 11year old with us. So I really felt there was no excuse for over cooked food. And were welcomed and taken to our table as soon as we arrived. I felt the menu was a bit samey but ok. The drinks were delivered promptly. Staff need some education on types of drinks they serve. I had to go up to the bar to look at what was on offer. Food was hot but a little over done. The Symbister cheese was delightful. All members of our party ate and declared most of it to be good. Staff were prompt and very pleasant. We had to remind them to bring the dessert menu. The cocktail, coconut and banana was a highlight for me. The desserts were also well received. Tasted as good as the looked.

Called in for something to eat and a pint. 3 of us had haddock and chips and 1 had chilli and nachos. All the food was really nice. The fish was lovely and skin on chips were great. Not fries, proper chips. Service with a smile from a lovely lady. Place was very quiet, almost library like so a bit of music would have been nice but otherwise excellent.
