Nice, traditional hotel but showing signs of tiredness through its wonderful Victorian grandeur. The wonderful hallway is overpowered by some awful 70's style light structures which if replaced with period crystal or a sculptural feature would display the area at it's best.
The rooms were comfortable and adequate.
The staff were all polite, attentive and delightful. It was particularly refreshing to see the breakfast room staffed by seniors who gently glided about their duties ensuring everyone was catered for with total professionalism and unhurried fuss.
My stay was enjoyable, I appreciated the that I could adjust my heating in the room. Nice to see they have tea and coffee in the rooms. The room was a good size just for me and I was given a quiet section as I had asked. Staff were accommodating. The place felt a little dated but over all a good experience.
Superb location, literally next door to the train station. Check in was a smooth process. The room was a little hard to find, but the staff helped us. The bar area was nice and the drinks were reasonably priced. Room itself was small but perfectly acceptable, it was clean and comfortable. Would definitely return.
Had my wedding night here and stayed so many times I lost count... food is great, rooms are old but hey so is the building right? Always a lovely welcome, and afternoon tea is a must... Victorian error captured in a splendid mini palace that even queen Victoria loved! Book it you won’t be disappointed and might even spot the odd celebrity visitors... we did

Excellent friendly service. Room was perfect and very clean. Breakfast was delicious and there was plenty to choose from.
They will even hold your luggage after checkout if you want to explore the city. Its within walking distance of the Paragon interchange and st stephens shopping centre. Plus only ten min walk to museum quarter.
Loved my stay here, interesting building, fab location. The reception/bar area was enchanting, large areas full of smiling staff obviously tired from the season but working their socks off non the less. The room was standard with the bathroom slighty above standard but spotlessly clean. Only down side was due to the huge window it was really cold in the room. I'm not too effected by the cold and to be fair I didn't complain so didn't give them chance to amend this problem.
My partner and I stayed here Friday night, there was a huge mix up with our room an after 3 changes we got a lovely room. We got ready and had a lovely meal where the staff were pleasant an polite. On trying to get back into our room around 10 at night the electronic card reader had broken on our door.....I panicked!!! Robin the manager reassured me he would sort the situation, complementary wine then sorted the bridal suite for us and 2 bottles of wine sent to our room. Lovely breakfast too.

I have previously stayed at some very average Britannia Hotels and had seen a number of poor reviews for The Royal Hotel showing a dated and poorly maintained hotel with dirty rooms so I was a bit wary of what I would find.
I was pleasantly surprised though as my room on the first floor was modern and bright, it seemed recently painted, there was no damage to any furniture and the bathroom was immaculate.
I checked in quite late at night and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
The breakfast room, bar and lobby again seemed recently decorated and were bright and airy. The breakfast was quite standard and with an ok choice (anyone looking for a healthy breakfast with salad, vegetables and lean protein will have to get creative). The fresh pastries and bread were delicious though and the full English served buffet style was warm and very nice.
I would definitely stay here again with such competitive room rates.
I would just like to say that last night 6th June we were invited back to the Hotel following a not so good evening in March for my friends hen night, which a few of us expressed our concerns with.
I am happy to report that everything from the room size, to the food and attentive staff was 100% improved.
The artist was excellent and all in all we had a fantastic night, thanks for looking after us so well and I will happily recommend these evenings as a great together.
I feel sure we will all be back, as we are planning on making this a regular catch up.

Fine hotel with a very useful location in the station itself and across the road from st Stephens shopping centre. No gym but they have an arrangement with the gym in the shopping centre which is cool. Executive room was spacious and had a nespresso. Bit dated interior. Breakfast was fine. Staff were nice.
Very friendly and respectful staff both in the bar and at breakfast. The room was comfortable and clean. Nice big bed in the double. For the price and location its great and free parking in this location is great too. The hotel is attached to the railway station but that is no issues at all.
