Reviews L'anima

We first tried a carry-out pizza from L'Anima - and were extremely impressed. The base was nice and crispy, the quantity of topping just right and the quality was excellent. We next decided to eat-in as food often tastes different (and better) when eaten on the premises. I love calzone but have found very few establishments where I can finish one as there's just too much for me to eat - not so with L'Anima - while in quantity, is really seemed no different from the others, in quality I was extremely impressed - the "base" seemed much lighter (not so doughy) and the contents surprised me as I'd ordered a Calzone Picante which contained Italian spicy soft sausage - and spicy it was - not too hot, but enough to set it apart form the run-of-the mill offerings in other premises. My wife had Pollo Funghi and while she doesn't normally eat it all, there wasn't much left on the plate afterwards. There wasn't too much cream with this so once again the dish wasn't too filling, the pasta was excellent and the ingredients tasted fresh, nothing fancy, but very tasty. The premises are bright - perhaps too well lit as I did find the lighting a little harsh, but the owner assured us that lighting in one of the things on the agenda for change, as is a new menu with steak and seafood. Seating for around 27 people is comfortable and the tables are well spaced. With drinks, a sweet and liqueurs afterwards, we were very pleasantly surprised at the overall cost which, for two people was less than we have paid for one in other establishments.
