Every time I come here I am surprised about the quality of service and food for such reasonable prices. I quite often drop in for a quick lunch or weekday meal when I’m in a rush the service is so quick and personable. I also enjoy taking my friends on a weekend the choices of wines and Gins are better than most London Pubs I visit. Such a lovely place and atmosphere with lovely staff.
Adding a review for our Sunday Lunch - We had a truly excellent meal, in the rain under the canopy and were kept super warm with heaters, blankets and the fire. The food was superb again and we were served by Millie and Grace who could not do enough for us. Paul the Assistant manager was fully visible throughout ensuring the smooth running of the place. We wanted lots of gravy and they ensure we had all we needed.
I HIGHLY recommend this pub and well worth a visit!
The new Cart and Horses is wonderful. I have lived in Kings Worthy for over 25 years and seen the previous iterations and this is by far the best it has ever been. The food, menu and drinks are perfect and the service is attentive and fast. The staff culture is the most authentic and friendliest it has ever been, and it is wonderful having a local that is pet friendly, people friendly and have super focus on ensuring customers have a great experience. Thank you so much. Today Nellie served us and she was truly excellent. Paul the assistant manager is always visible and so keen to help. So a huge thank you from me, I love it here, and see you soon!
Utterly amazing !! We both had the pork belly roast and it was delicious. Maybe the best roast I’ve had out actually. Outside seating area is lovely. Maybe portion size they could work on but apart from that 9.5/10
We had an evening at The Cart & Horses for a birthday celebration on a Saturday . We sat inside , in The Snug - perfect for our group of 7 . The table was set beautifully with fresh flowers and we felt far enough away from the rest to be a little private but also included in the pubs atmosphere.
This is our first visit since the refurbishment and what a wonderful job - the pub looks fab . Outside tables are undercover with an outside bar and cosy fire .
Jack looked after us for the evening. He was attentive and friendly - he also dealt with a table full of demanding ladies graciously ! Thank you Jack!
Looking forward to my next visit .
Second time coming since the refurb (which I believe was around four weeks ago).
First time, all I had room was for the duck salad (which was tasty) but this time we tried the Sunday roasts in the outdoor seating area - all lovely! Great service too!
We love the new Cart and Horses! It’s been restored so beautifully and the garden is the nicest in Winchester by far. The decor and styling make it an all seasons place, cosy in winter and plenty of bright rooms and outdoor tables in summer. The food is absolutely lovely and there’s a range of pricing from pizza and snacks to gorgeous steaks. There’s a huge variety of food choices including a children’s menu although I think it’s better for kids who are at an age where they can stay sitting at the table.
We are lucky to live fairly close and will use it all the time. If you ever went to the pub before it was taken over and refurbished you need to forget everything! It’s a really upmarket pub but with a relaxed feel and mid range pricing. Perfect for catching up with friends, special occasions, meals for two or just drinks in a lovely setting.
Ps. The decor / interiors photos are from opening day where we looked all around but some parts were not open to customers yet. We’ve been twice since and the whole place is buzzing inside and out with people and atmosphere.
The Cart and Horses has truly had a complete ‘glow-up’. What was once a very average pub has become a destination in itself, and is almost unrecognisable after it’s refurbishment.
I visited with a small group a few days after they had re-opened, as I was curious to see what they had done to my ‘local’. What greeted me completely blew me away. The refurbishment is stunning, with a completely new look, a new bar area, and new beautifully landscaped gardens and outdoor dining areas.
The building isn’t the only thing that’s had an overhaul, as the new menu is totally different to what they’ve offered before. There’s something for everyone, from sharing boards for those wanting a nibble with drinks, to a range of pub classics.
We started with a bottle of fizz and a sharing ‘Stix’ board between us. The skewers were all delicious and full of lots of different flavours. I then had an absolutely fantastic steak, which was cooked perfectly and came with some great sides. The chips were some of the nicest I’ve had in years. For dessert I had the sticky toffee pudding, which was surprisingly light but utterly delicious. Overall, the food was perfect and very fairly priced for the quality.
The staff were all incredibly friendly and attentive, and I cannot fault the service. Considering they’d only been open two days, they were working like a well-oiled machine. We also had some cocktails from the bar afterwards, and they were great too, all freshly made by the bar team.
It’s so great to see the enhancements that The Cart and Horses have received. The food, the service and the pub itself have all been elevated to such a high standard that it is unrecognisable from its predecessor. I will certainly be back again to sample some more of their fantastic food!
I’ve been here a few times since the renovation and I honestly can’t get enough! The quality of the food is exceptional and I personally think it’s worth every penny- you can tell it’s sourced well! Best meal so far has to be the sirloin steak, it was served with a gorgeous sauce and the most delicious chips- a perfectly sized portion too.
Of course I had to try the Sunday roast- the beef was insanely good, we also added a side of pigs in blankets which were delicious. Loads of food and amazing quality.
The ‘Stix’ are quite little but sooo tasty, so if you’re treating yourself definitely try at least one 😍 And the bar snacks…so good!
Service is brilliant (to humans and dogs!). My cocker spaniel always gets fussed over, brought treats, a bowl of water and a blanket to lie on.
Overall I’m so glad I’ve found this pub. I already can’t wait for cosy nights next to the fire 😍
Lovely atmosphere now after the refurb, I sat outside with my puppy in the covered terrace area and felt like I was on holiday! Quality full English and iced coffee hit the spot, as did Tabby’s friendly and efficient service. Puppy was taken care of with her own bowl of water and plenty of fuss. Lovely to have this as my now preferred local. Well done to the Cart & Horses team 👏🏻
Not sure why this place is advertised as permanently closed? They have recently undergone a substantial refurbishment (I believe in excess of £1 million). I'm not sure how to change this detail, but I will do so when I have a few spare minutes.
In the meantime, be assured that they are open and they definitely deserve a visit.
One word of caution, upon exiting and approaching the major road junction to your left...you must now STOP... and no longer just give way. New signage and road markings have been installed.
Very friendly team who are rightly very proud of their new refurbishment, prices are slightly north of average, but are just about acceptable for the area. Astonishing level of finish and as both an ex publican and builder who refurbished countless pubs for Courage Brewery, I absolutely love the work that's been completed here
Definitely worth a visit and highly recommended .
Had a great evening here yesterday. It was our first time there but the couple we were with were stunned at how much better everything was than last time they were there, before the new management & refurb. The food was good…the best dish was the chicken, ham-hick & leek pie, but the photo I took of that was awful so it’s not in the pix. My burger was soooo juicy and full of flavour - by far the best I have had in ages and a couple of people had the risotto, which was the lowest calorie item on the mains, and absolutely loved it. The restaurant was absolutely packed and buzzing, despite it being a Tuesday night, so I’d recommend booking if you’re going at the weekend for sure. The biggest surprise as we were leaving, was the fabulous outdoor dining and bar area, which was also full and beautifully designed and lit - it just looked really welcoming…I can’t think if a better place to be in a clear evening in the Winchester area.
First time here since the re-furb and how comfortable did we feel! Lovely little nooks to choose from in very comfortable chairs either in or out and great to see a couple of bar stools! Bar snack was very tasty and we look forward to our first Sunday roast! Very much worth a visit 😉
Had a wonderful sunday lunch here on opening weekend and couldnt fault the place. Great refurb, welcoming interior and incredible food. ❤️
Great food, loved the aged shin and rib burger, very tasty. Dog friendly is a nice bonus. Service is very quick and friendly.
I absolutely loved the atmosphere and the aesthetics of the pub. Its recent new ownership has really made a huge difference. We went for Sunday Lunch and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. I friendly warm introduction to our waiter Jack who was very attentive throughout and was able to talk us through the wine and food choices with knowledge. Delicious well cooked and beautifully presented food. The Manager was happy to stop have a chat with us after our meal despite being incredibly busy. We then had the opportunity to leave a digital review of the individual bill items before we paid our bill. It was an all round lovely experience and we will definitely be returning.
Refurbished inside it is quite pleasant, the food is good with a slightly different menu, average price per meal around £18 good selection of drinks, a part of the Green King group of pubs.
WOW what a google find! 🤩
Beautiful pub inside & out.
