Was passing through and stopped there - lovely pub with atmosphere, and very friendly staff
Thank you to everyone at the Black Boy for making my birthday lunch so special yesterday. Fabulous Sunday roast which tasted like home cooking served by our lovely waitress.

Found you by accident today, after taking our dog to the eye clinic. You ticked all the boxes for us, a great welcome, dog & wheelchair friendly, lovely food & drink, along with great service in a pub that we would happily call our local if we lived in the area. Thank you. We will be back again :)

We had a leaving and retirement meal out from work, we were able to have the back annex as we were a large party. The area was great for us all to be together, also had a place to display their gifts and flowers! A big bonus! We had drinks first until everyone arrived and we were able to have time to choose our options off the menu. Ordering was so easy as we didn’t have to order and pay individually straight away we could put our orders in in small groups and then go up and pay individually later when we had eaten. No rushing or confusion with who had what etc… We were also fortunate there was an offer of 30% off at that time which was taken off each payment. The atmosphere was very friendly, service was great and everyone enjoyed the choice of menu and lovely food. No complaints at all we thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon of saying goodbye to our colleagues. We have enjoyed using the Black Boy previously as it is so close to our work place and have always had a wonderful experience. We will be back for any other celebration or event.
Visited in the early evening on a weekday. Pub was busy but tables were available and the service was quick and friendly. There is a single large bar area. Also a sizeable outdoor seating area in front of the pub, although this does front on to a busy road. There is a pay and display car park to the rear, but the parking fee is refunded if you hand in the ticket counterfoil when perchance at the bar. Car park is not huge so I imagine spaces are in short supply at busy times. Good range of draft beerd and other drinks.
We enjoyed our family visit, my wife is up in a couple of days and we fancied a change from our usual venues.
Haven't been to visit for a number of years, we parked the opposite side to the disabled ramp and my 8o year old Mother in law struggled up the steps.
But I moved the car the correct side to pick her up on leaving.
Our meal experience, was one of a positive nature and really enjoyed.
The staff were very attentive and full of smiles.
We will call again and thank you 👍
We had a family meal here at the Black Boy our starters were lamb kofta and cauliflower bites in batter they are delicious.
Then for mains we ordered
Lamb faggots with mash I swapped for mushy peas.
Brains beer batter cod and chips outstanding the size and flavour and chips are lovely.
The other meal was lamb steak with mash.

Lemon tart .. strawberry cheesecake
Visited this evening and food was excellent.
Would like to commend Jordan who was professional above and beyond .
He did not stop making sure everything was a great guest experience .
He treated every table as individual not just more diners .
He made the visit top class and is a employee to be proud off his customer service is 110% .
He trurely is a gentleman 👏

The people who work here are so friendly and helpful! We didn’t have to wait long for food and it was great. Service at the bar was cheerful and prompt. I’d like to mention Caitlin and Aled, both fantastic! All round a fab experience.
Staff very friendly and helpful. All food tasty, except the steak & ale pie… a huge bit of gristle, very hard pastry … not much flavour. Also burger buns nothing like the pictures.
Great service. Great food again. Staff are really friendly and accommodating. The steaks we ordered we cooked perfectly. Looking forward to our next visit.

A great place for a meal with friends.
I had an evening meal at the Black Boy yesterday with 4 friends. COVID measures were in place, we signed in for track & trace, orders were placed from the table etc. It was quite busy but I could see where the staff had spread out the customer groups so that we weren't close to others.
It would have been nice to have it more clearly explained when being seated that drinks were ordered via the online system with food orders taken by staff - there was a bit of confusion but, the few staff members we could see were clearly working flat out. The couple of staff members that we dealt with were lovely and all 5 meals were brought out quickly.
Food was fantastic! I was the only veggie so ordered the vegan mushroom pasta. I'm often disappointed with the portion sizes with vegetarian options but that wasn't the case here. (see pic) I had ordered a side of chips but ended up sharing them with friends because the portion size of my meal was spot on. Everything was delicious, we all cleared our plates.
Sports was being shown so that did make it a bit noisy, it didn't bother us at all (actually added to the atmosphere) but it would make me reluctant to take the kids if it was a game night.
A lovely evening overall & I'll happily go back again.

Bar staff always friendly ( i travel about 6 miles to specifically go there and have done for many years for catch up with friends and monthly book club) food is good quality, service great .
Basic pub menu. Food ok nothing special. Service was very good.
Came for the drinks, stayed for the people. Wonderful pub with an excellent selection of beverages and food. A banker of a boozer, never been let down.
I attended the black boy on tuesday evening, it was fairly busy however that did not stop the friendly staff from providing all of our needs, Sophie and Caitlin were especially helpful with our orders and provided excellent service
Went for Sunday lunch with group of friends. Ordered beef dinner. Three beef slices but thick and dry. Veg (hidden under meat) and Yorkshire pudding ok but whole dish barely hot. I noticed all my companions who were regulars seemed to avoid the beef! Perhaps speaks for itself!
In fairness I have to add that I went again today and had a wonderful Cauliflower wings (!??) salad main as well as a very good macchiato coffee. My current 4* is the average of a 3* and a 5*
