My favourite place to stay in the Lakes. The lounge is the most wonderful place to relax in comfort with amazing views even in the rain. Food is excellent and they had no trouble catering for my gluten free needs.

Just back from an excellent weekend at the Borrowdale Gates. We've been twice before but this time took my mother, the kids and their partners and I'm pleased to say they all enjoyed it as much as us. The location is spectacular with views of the fells - Castle Crag looked as Tolkeinesque as ever. Super food - the Cumberland breakfast is to die for- and the staff are so friendly and helpful.

This is a lovely hotel in beautiful surroundings. The staff are friendly, welcoming, efficient and make you feel at home. Our room was very comfortable with a sitting space and good bathroom although we would have liked a shower rather than a bath. The food was delicious and I'd go back at the drop of a hat.

My partner and I have stayed at the Borrowdale Gates Hotel twice and both times were excellent. The hotel is in a lovely location with amazing views where we could sit and watch the wildlife. Our recent stay was made extra special as my partner asked me to marry him while admiring the views in the lounge. We will definitely be returning. Chris, Sue and Team do an amazing job. Theyare always very helpful and friendly.

We stayed here for two nights in April and had an amazing stay. The room was perfectly appointed and had all the amenities needed. It was a very comfortable bed. The food was amazing ! Excellent!!! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a beautiful hotel to stay in the Lake District. The staff are very attentive, and will be there for anything you may need. This hotel exudes five star luxury.

On the back of great reviews from family and friends, we'd been meaning to stay at this hotel for some time, therefore it was with great anticipation when we arrived for the weekends (birthday celebrations) stay. If like us you love Borrowdale valley and prefer a quiet location, it ticks all the boxes. Nestled at the foot of 'Catbells' next to the quaint hamlet of Grange, it's only a few miles from the bustle of Keswick but is a perfect country retreat. If you don't mind walking a little, the bus or launch can be caught for the journey into town if desired. The lawned grounds and scenery are a perfect place to sample a cold beer from the well stocked bar as you wind down after a walk in the hills or day in town. The rooms are super clean and well stocked as befits a 4 star establishment but where this charming hotel excels is the dining experience. The evening dinners were stunning. Every dish, beautifully presented with delicious local ingredients and obviously cooked with love and attention to detail. The atmosphere is relaxed and contemporary and in no way pretentious. I could go on but I've now found my new go-to hotel for my twice yearly weekend birthday breaks and can't wait to return in 6 months time.

Recently stayed at this lovely location. We arrived late in the night due to issues leaving London and they were extremely friendly and even let us have a meal even though it was late and we were not in the correct attire. This was most welcome. Staff extremely friendly and make you feel welcome throughout. The food was simply breathtaking, some of the best I’ve eaten. The rooms were lovey and the views were simply magical. This place was perfect for a brilliant weekend away.

Beautiful hotel with amazing, caring team making your experience one to remember. Travelling with our little one, the family room we stayed in was excellent. Food a little pricey but really good quality - perhaps good to have a more informal option for families or walkers. The team were extremely friendly and helpful. We loved the garden and location for walks.

Stayed here for 5 nights over Easter and was blown away with the service received. Usually as a vegan you feel a nuisance but the staff, and particularly Marilyn, made our stay so special. The food was lovely and they even changed the vegan menu for us half way through our stay so we didn't get bored!! This is a very special place and I would not hesitate to stay again!

A solid 4.5 ⭐️. Fully refurbished rooms, with nice modern bathrooms. Nice location in the heart of a valley. Very good breakfast. Dinner was good, on the gourmet side. I would love, however, to also have the option of an informal dinner after a long day out (when you also had lunch somewhere in the lakes). It’s not everyday that you want a formal 💷💷💷 dinner. Temperature right in the rooms, plenty of hot water. Amenities in the rooms. Nice view (room 20). Parking for all (a porch in the entrance would help in rainy days). I would go again, unless I wanted something less formal.

Get what you paid for and more, we got the room, dinner and breakfast package. dinner was really good and had a great selection from the menu. We go for a pre starter, start, main dessert and petit four with the tea/ coffee. My friend got the vegi menu and it was really good. Good selection of wine and not too expensive. We had Marilyn she was really good and friendly, nothing was a bother or too much. Reception staff - very friendly and welcoming. Very accommodating, one of our friends couldn't make it and they took some money off which was an unexpected bonus. We stayed in the executive room - room was really spacious, with a nice coffee machine. Shower and bath are nice. Nice mountain view from the balcony. Breakfast was really good too with a good selection of cold food and cooked breakfast No fridge Seen guests with dogs.

Two bedraggled walkers arrived yesterday afternoon soaking wet at 3.30pm. The staff welcomed us sincerely and sent us through to meet Kamil in the bar by a roaring fire. He was so friendly and welcoming, and even hung up our coats to dry before making us cocktails to enjoy by the fire. We were so impressed and didn't feel we were imposing at all despite not having a room or a meal booked at the hotel. As a result we will definitely return as guests sometime soon for more of your wonderful hospitality. Thank you Kamil!!

Called here one morning when we were walking around Derwent Water. Very welcoming and very friendly, we only stopped for a tea & coffee(which they gave us a free mince pie and shortbread) and we loved it here and will be calling back soon.

Great limited wine selection (not cheap though) in an elegant setting with great views. Couldn't see much for vegans on the menu.

We have just returned from our fifth visit this year to this beautiful hotel. Two nights stress free comfort in our favourite room Millican Dalton. Cheerful enthusiastic welcome from the vivacious recieptionist . Front of house staff and restaurant staff. Usually the hight light of our stay has been the 5* dinners - sadly this was not the case on this visit. The first evening we were presented with what was described as cannon of lamb - a high end cut of meat which I serve regullarly at home supper parties. In this case it was three slim thin slithers of tasteless lamb on a bed of spinach followed by a small glass of panna cotta - at most three spoonfuls. I had to check that I was paying £58 for this meal. In a restaurant I would have sent it back and left with out paying The second night faired no better. with the main course - mine a fillet of sea bream served on a mirpoix and my partner Steakpie which looked like a Weatherspoon steak day special. As always the breakfasts were oustanding. We look forward to our visit in March which will influence any further visits

Thoroughly recommended. A nice quiet location with great views and ideally situated for walks to nearby fells including Cat Bells. The service was excellent, all requests were catered for during our stay and the restaurant and bar staff are always warm and friendly. The room seemed to be newly renovated to a good standard as the corridors looked more dated. It was modern, clean and comfortable. Lovely balcony to sit on an evening and watch the red squirrels in the garden. Really could not fault this place.
