We have been coming to this Hotel since the late 70's and always enjoy our time here. We stayed over night on Friday night 2nd February. Our room was classed as prestige but the only disappointing thing was that it was small and on the side of the hotel which overlooked the car park. (One small point that it did say on the website was there were slippers in the room unfortunately they werent and this was brought to the attention of the receptionist who was going to look into this). The good point was that you could see Cat Bells Black Crag Maiden Moor Eel Crag and you could see down the Borrowdale Valley towards Seatoller. Looking out towards the back of the Hotel you can visit the Lodore Cascade which is a waterfall. The cleanliness and comfort of the room was good as always but unfortunately did not compare to those rooms on the front which we had stayed in times before. This did not spoil our stay. We attended the wine tasting held in the wine cellar which is at the back of the dinning room which was very enjoyable. Cath was very knowledgeable in the subject. This is recommended to anyone staying at the hotel on a Friday at 6.00pm. Our meal was amazing as always accompanied by a very good choice of wine and served by very pleasant staff under the supervision of Cath. Breakfast was also served in the dining room which was excellent especially for those guests exploring the area and was served from 7.30 until 9.30 am. The bar and lounges were comfortable for relaxation too. With very obliging bar staff. Another advantage to the Hotel is there is plenty free parking spaces either on the front or back of the hotel. All in all 10 out of 10 again for The Borrowdale and it's staff. We will be back soon.

Just returned from another break. Last minute booking taking advantage of the barking mad offer with tea and scones on arrival. A wonderful stay. Our room was lovely with a view of the lake. As usual the staff , service and food were all excellent. This place never fails to give a relaxed and comfortable break which is why we return again and again. Thank you

Warm welcome from the staff and delighted to see cosy fires after a blustery cold day. Our lunch was hearty but had delicate flavours, I loved the tarragon in the chicken sandwich. Thoroughly recommend.

Great place to stay, lovely surroundings and full of Lakeland charm. Food spot on with tasty full Cumbrian Breakfast and real ales on tap in the bar. Great bedrooms and pleasant lounges with warming firesides and full of history and character. Good walks nearby round Derwent Water or up Catbells and Keswick not far for shops and interests.

Lovely welcoming hotel. Food was fantastic and lots of lounge and different seating areas etc to enjoy a glass of wine. Tea and scones on arrival thanks to the groupon deal we got, which were delicious. What a lovely get away for our 2nd wedding anniversary Would highly recommend this tranquil setting.

Just returned home after a fantastic 2 days stay. We had tea and scones, which were warm, on arrival. A lovely room which was at the side of the hotel looking down the road. Amazing food and friendly staff. A little gem in the lakes and cannot wait to return.

We only ate food here as we are staying at the farm up the lane, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was great! A bit expensive but that's what you expect around there so it wasn't a surprise. Very creative and modern menu and dining area. The service was fast and polite.

Popped in for some lunch after visiting Keswick and Watendlath with family. Dog friendly. Staff very polite, welcoming and helpful. Found menu a little limited for my elderly mother though she did enjoy a small amount of steak (the dogs enjoyed the rest ๐Ÿ˜‚)

A great little hotel in a lovely spot in the Lakes. A decent amount of money spent last year on the public rooms which look very smart. Nice open fires going in winter which are nice to fall asleep in front of! Service good if a little bland.

Kindly let us use the bar/fireside whilst we waited for a tyre repair person to attend to our vehicle, having limped into their parking following a puncture in the dark/rain/without phone signal. Wonderfully cosy and incredibly kind staff, who were extremely patient with our baby and the situation. Would thoroughly recommend on this basis, and hope to stay in future now.

Spent a couple of nights in this hotel. Arrived at lunchtime, room not available so enjoyed a nice lunch then visited the Ladore Waterfall which is walking distance and then walked along the shore of Derwent water which is just across the road. We were surprised on entering our room which was rather small for 2 people, however we had only booked a standard room. As we were only there 2 nights it was fine and 1 would stay on the bed whilst the other was getting dressed as it was tricky for 2 to manoeuvre the room together. The bed & pillows were comfy and the bathroom good with lovely toiletries - shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, hand wash and body moisturiser. Good breakfast with plenty of choice of juice, cereal, fruit, yogurt, pastries and hot food. Very relaxing and not rushed. The hotel is very well positioned with plenty of places to visit close by and Keswick is 10mins drive away with plenty of bars, restaurants to visit in the evening

Just spent Christmas at the Borrowdale hotel, the hotel looked a picture with festive decorations, the staff were excellent, the food was exceptional. We stayed on for an extra day after the Christmas package had ended, and unfortunately the hotel became a hotel for dogs which was a disappointing end to an otherwise enjoyable experience.

We stayed again for the third time....we weren't disappointed... excellent service from Rita, she remembers us and Paddy our dog, from two years ago when she was new to the hotel.. Kevin, the night porter kept us in 'good spirits' til two in the morning...๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ The breakfast was lovely and the chef in charge of the evening menu was spot on...one of the best fillet steaks I've had... Will definitely return in the future.. Many thanks for your excellent hospitality. Richard, Heather and Paddy...๐Ÿพ

The Borrowdale Hotel is a lovely, little hotel that's very quaint. We stayed for four days just before summer holidays and it was full of the hustle and bustle of pensioners. The rooms are very well sized and comfortable, with all the amenities you need - a TV, hairdryer and soap, shampoo etc. One of the only downsides to the whole hotel was that the bathroom could have done with being a touch larger. The staff were amazing and very attentive. They knew who we were and what we wanted almost straight away and were always helpful. The hotel is VERY dog friendly, allowing our little pooch to be everywhere except the main restaurant. We didn't have posh clothes with us, so that suited us just fine. There's loads of walks around that go straight from the door, and the bus stops just outside too. The food was brilliant and very well priced. The menu has a lot of options, although breakfast does revolve around eggs. It would have been nice to have a few more options that weren't just a variation of poached eggs. Overall, we had a fabulous time and will definitely be going back as soon as we can!

Had a lovely 2 days at the hotel. The location is brilliant for walking. We enjoy stepping out the door & walking around the lake to Keswick. We were lucky with the lovely weather! The staff were brilliant & nothing was too much trouble. We initially had an issue with the bathroom & were immediately transferred to another room. The service was great & all the staff were very adaptable in their varying roles. The food was really enjoyable & very good.

First class! Beautiful hotel located in Borrowdale valley. Many walks from the door but also a bus stops at the front of the hotel. A short walk to Derwentwater lake and about 4 to 5 miles along the lakeshore to the market town of Keswick. The hotel has a lovely garden where you can sit with a coffee or a glass of wine and the bar and lounge areas are comfortable and tastefully decorated. The staff are all friendly and attentive and give great customer service. Good menu choices and good quality fresh food cooked to perfection. The rooms are also tastefully decorated to a high standard, all of the hotel has recently had refurbishment. Can highly recommend, we have stayed at all of the hotels owned by this group and all are excellent.

Lovely quaint Hotel surrounded by a beautiful landscape of mountains. Our hotel room is very clean and the bed and pillows are very comfortable with crisp clean sheets. Nice thick lined curtains, and quintessentially british, charming feel to the room. Beautiful views from our windows. Lovely snugs situated around the hotel for relaxing/reading a newspaper. We had no remote control in our room, however the receptionist eventually managed to source a set of remote controls that worked. Breakfast was good, I opted for pastries that were fresh, orange juice, coffee and a full English (could have done with being a touch hotter) I asked if we could sit in the window for breakfast, in which the waitress asked the lady who seemed to be managing, and she flatly said โ€œNo. A woman and her daughter have sat there all week.โ€ The window seat was empty the whole time. I didnโ€™t realise certain guests got special treatment. Overall a lovely stay, but would have liked to have felt valued and treated as an equal to other guests in terms of service.
