Was in the Dog and Gun on Tuesday night after we seen a recommendation to try the goulash and it didn't disappoint went for the large portion me and my husband and couldn't finish it there was so much meat in it and the dumplings were filling as well not to mention the garlic bread really good portion friendly staff and a busy place at all times will be back when I'm down there next
Great place, a proper pub, buzzing vibe, good beer and great pub food. What’s not to like
Best pub in Keswick and their Hungarian Goulash is the best I've ever had. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Dogs are most welcome, there was every size and shape from chihuahuas to Great Danes on the nights we were there. A true gem of a place, you'd be mad to miss it!
As our first visit to keswick this place is very friendly and has a warm relaxed atmosphere, also dog friendly wish I had of bought our little dog Charlie would definitely recommend
Great friendly small traditional English pub
Good food , fantastic local beer & spirits .
Dogs & children made very welcome with well behaved adults
Brilliant busy pub with great food at reasonable prices .....if you can’t get a seat just wait a while ,it’s worth it
Great beer and goulash to die for. Seats can be hard to come by, but dog friendly.
If you're looking for good food and great beer then look no further, we popped in for a bowl of goulash and we weren't disappointed. We had probably the best pint of Old Peculiar we've ever had, if you like or if you've never tried goulash then this is the right place you won't be disappointed. All the staff were polite and friendly and clearly proud of the service they provide.
We finally were able to get in and have some of the delicious goulash. The goulash came out a little on the cool side but the staff soon remedied it. The standard portion is large and comes with a dumpling and 2 slices of garlic bread. My advice is to get there at 12 midday as the doors open otherwise you may be disappointed and unable to find somewhere to sit as it fills up really quick. We have tried numerous times but have always been unable to find a seat but yesterday we were second in. We would definitely recommend the goulash.
The goulash was a delicious warming dish, perfect accompaniment to a cold winters day.
A very busy pub; having failed to get a seat yesterday we arrived early today! Also beautiful decor and William Morris wallpaper!
You have to visit the Dog & Gun when coming to Keswick. This place is a classic, open fires, friendly service and just that classic British pub feel with a great selection of drinks. The food here is great and they do a classic goulash. Dog friendly, but just make sure you give yourself time, it’s super popular and tables get taken quickly :)
It is a very popular and nice place with an unfriendly person at the counter. My espresso was served in a cold cup, which made me unhappy. But you will for sure enjoy a much better experience, it's a good place.
You can’t go wrong if you serve Bowness Bay Brewery Swan Blonde ale in this perfect condition which is pouring today. This pub is a worthy and regular entry in the Good Beer Guide.
A great pub with friendly staff and a good atmosphere. If you want a table get there early, its always busy. Our second trip to keswick this year and we returned to the Dog and Gun, this time we had to try the goulash. We were not disappointed, really tasty and and a good size, can heartily recommend. The refurb looks great too! We will be in again tonight!
Went in twice as we had such a lovely time the 1st time.
Would recommend the goulash very tasty.👍.The pie and fish and chips also great.
The place is quirky and we could take the dog in too. The log fire was on and it had a lovely atmosphere.
The service was 👍. Once ordered it wasn't to long before food came. The staff cleared the tables quickly.
It's a busy pub but worth the wait.
A bowl of goulash, although not authentic Hungarian Goulash nice all the same. We shared a large portion and very filling. The hallumi fries also really good. Friendly bar staff.
It's not a very big pub, but it's popular (with good reason), so it can be difficult to find a table. It's worth the wait if you have the time. The service was quick, and the staff were courteous and kept checking to make sure all our meals arrived. I had the standard sized Hungarian Goulash, which was delicious (the only criticism being that it could have done with having 2 dumplings instead of 1). My wife enjoyed her veggie goulash, with the kids giving a thumbs up for their Mac n cheese and pizza. There's a good selection of drinks, particularly if you like cask ales (which I do).

We had a local recommended a few places and this was one of them. The bar is lovely and homely, just what you expect in this area!
Friendly, attentive staff and although the menu looks like standard pub grub it was a level up.
The kebab was beautiful, lovely chicken, chorizo and crunchy veg, some salad and flatbread and amazing sweet pomegranate seeds. So good!
My wife had a veggie burger which can be quite bland and generic but she rated it pretty high too.
Quite nice to see kitchen staff serve their food too - you could see they did care if you enjoyed it.
Dog friendly too, so we took our pup in
Highly recommend this place
Cosy pub with two fires, lots of excellent real-ales... and pies. What more do you want?
Very overcrowded traditional pub on the main street.
Excellent selection of Cask Ales.
Buzzing atmosphere.
Staff were very friendly & extremely busy both times we visited.
Cute place to stop in for a bite or drink. My Australian partner had the beef and ale pie and I (I’m American) had the Mac n cheese. We both loved our dishes. Very nice with great flavors. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. They were also on top of service.
Lovely warm pub on a very cold winters day. More dogs than humans it seemed. Nice food. Good beer.
A busy friendly atmosphere, the staff team were great. We were lucky to get a seat which reflects the quality of the service and the food/drinks on offer. The Hungarian goulash is a must and didn't disappoint. We had the small veggie which comes with a dumpling and garlic bread. This was a hearty portion and just delious on a chilly February evening. The rest of the menu looked inviting and there were a good selection of ales... Can't recommend enough.
Food and Drink were fabulous on our recent Keswick trip. Hungarian Beef Goulash was bang on form and Real Ales divine as always. This is defo one of the best pubs, so we have to go there every time.
Fantastic little pub with one of the better atmospheres I’ve known in a boozer. If you walk past and see a free table - get it, quickly!
Cracking pint of Guinness too.
