The food was great. Servings for me were quite large for the price compared to previous restaurants in the UK I've been to. The lady in short blonde hair was very kind and hospitable. The inside of the restuarant including the toilet was absolutely clean. Accepts card payments. Dogs are not allowed to come inside.
The Old Keswickian Fish & Chip shop is a lovely light space to enjoy a plate of fish and chips. I highly recommend it. I ate in the restaurant upstairs.
Had haddock and chips, which was divine. My son noted that the customer service in here is very good. He really enjoyed his child's chicken burger and chips as well.
The fish was amazing quality with decent sized chips followed by the most tasty mushy peas I've had in a while. Amazing chippy with a very friendly staff and very helpful, the restaurant is downstairs and upstairs and also has a takeaway section too. Very busy but served as quickly as they could with waiting times no more than fifteen minutes. Certainly one of my favourite chippies of all time.
Great fish and chips and excellent service. Staff were super helpful and made sauce even when they'd run out after a busy day. Fish and chips were really tasty - you can see why there was a queue out of the door all night!
Great fish and chips. Excellent quality, staff very attentive, great price. Will be back
Food is really good quality and reasonably priced considering it's bang on the middle of Keswick. Every time I've been past there's a queue outside, speaks volumes on their quality. You wait, you get a good chip 😋
The staff in both parts are equally friendly, sometimes the takeaway staff are a bit manic but it's understandable with the demand their under. The restaurant has very nice atmosphere and is very cosy.
Unfortunately they don't have parking, but there is plenty around the town center.
A sit down chippy with friendly staff, good food and plenty of choices…
We arrived at 1pm on a Sunday and managed to get a table upstairs straight away, we were given our menus and the drinks order taken immediately - we had two cokes which were surprisingly glass bottle cokes, the best kind!
The menu has your fish and chip shop classics along with burgers, kids meals and plenty of sides.
We weren’t sure whether you ordered at the counter or not so I asked a member of staff and she was very apologetic for the wait, I wasn’t trying to rush her on or anything - I simply asked how we order, I don’t want her feeling like she let the service down because she didn’t at all!
I ordered smoked sausage with chips, gravy and a buttered roll, my partner ordered sausage with chips and curry sauce, also with a buttered roll.
The food arrived quickly, it was all absolutely delicious and the food was hot - my only criticism was that there wasn’t much gravy (which comes in a separate pot)
The staff were all friendly and the room upstairs is nice and cosy, I would say some of the tables are a bit crammed in but they only have so much space to utilise.
Overall, a local legend for good reason and a must-have if you’re in Keswick and fancy a chippy!
Lovely fish and chips here, nice that the batter is a light coating and not too thick like most places usually do.
My only gripe for dining here is their use of individual sachets for the condiments! It’s crazy that they don’t just stick the bottles on the table or have something that’s refillable. It just seems a huge waste because you need at least 3-4 sachets to satisfy you for the whole meal…. If there’s multiple people at your table you can barely see them over the pile of empty sachets on your table at the end of your meal. Unnecessary excess of plastic waste and inconvenience to guests dining in.
Loved the battered haddock, really loved it in fact, and the chips are great - which I suppose is pretty important for a fish and chip shop !
The rest of the food looked good too and the service (in the restaurant bit) was quick and friendly. Only (tiny) complaint was why don't you offer steak pies as well as steak and kidney ones ?
