Excellent food. The best pub food we have had in years. Real ale was straight from the barrel and in good condition. Highly recommended.

I decided to stop by with my daughter as we were passing by whilst she was riding her pony with me walking. We were made to feel very welcome and my daughters horse Buster even had his picture taken as the first equine visitor for the new landlords. We'll certainly be stopping by again if we are passing for some liquid refreshment and hopefully lovely grub once the kitchen is up and working again.

Popped in on spec for lunch on a Saturday... Initially thought the menu was quite basic, opted for bacon/brie/caramelised onion ciabatta... Wow !!!....it was absolutely superb..beautifully presented and super tasty...lovely surroundings, great staff ,fantastic food and Sandfords Red cider on tap...very impressed...have heard that the Sunday lunch is yummy too, definitely going to try that ..an absolute gem. so pleased we decided to stop here...

Was very sad to hear this had been taken over, and suspicious when taken there for lunch. I was wrong - the food is genuinely superb. Prefectly cooked and presented, for a ridiculously reasonable price for the quality - far better than standard pub fare, and making a good case for being the best in the area. A warm welcome and beer straight out of the barrel to boot - excellent.

We've eaten here twice in a week recently. Both times the food has been lovely- good choice on the menu (without being overwhelming), presentation great and very yummy. Staff are friendly, atmosphere relaxed, looking forward to our next visit already.

Booked for Saturday lunch after Dartmoor walk. Wasn't busy. Sat outside, very dog friendly. Water bowl and lead hooks on all picnic benches. Service by Evonne was excellent. Good selection of drinks and all home cooked food is on the daily boards (see photos) Sharing fish platter was superb. Will definitely return. Local village shop is worth a visit too

I absolutely love this pub. It ticks my personal pub-preference boxes! It's small and cosy with a lovely atmosphere. My brother argues it's a winter pub (and I can say I have had a lovely roast and pint there when escaping the cold), but I'd say it is an all-year rounder. Petite perfection if they were to rotate a few more guest ales on tap!

Lovely pub, lovely feel to the place. We didn't book, but we're lucky enough to get a table for the two of us, although I would recommend booking, just in case. All the staff were lovely and friendly, the food was perfectly cooked, and delicious. Definitely will go here again on our next visit to Dartmoor.

My partner and I had dinner at the Carpenter Arms whilst staying at the Moorland Hotel in Haytor. We were warmly greeted on arrival and had some lovely chicken wings as a starter. For the main course we shared a sea food platter which was delicious with some of the freshest and tastiest crab that I have had in a long time, A lovely Pub with great food and friendly staff. We will be back. Thank you.

Wandered in a little late for the lunch rush, but the management happily provided us with last minute grub, nice portions and cooked skillfully. Good range of veggie and carnivore options. Some tasty beers on tap. I'd go again for sure! Thanks!

Always great to pop in . Had take away fish & chips . One gluten free & one regular for my partner . It was wrapped up like a chipshop style , Beautifully tasty fish in a nice batter , which is crisp on the outside, not greasy in any way. Still hot enough to eat after 10+ min drive to Heathfield. Better than any chipshop i had experienced untill i was 18 . Then had to go gluten free from then . Definitely get again .
