If I am not wrong it was my third time to try their food. And I must say every time I visit them I enjoyed their food with my heart. The taste was amazing. Foods were fresh. Mango lassi was too sweet but it’s ok. All the kebabs and grills were fresh cooked. Washroom was perfectly clean. The portion of food was very good. They are the most authentic Halal Afghan cuisine restaurant. I highly recommend them.

After reading mixed reviews, I visited this restaurant over the weekend. I ordered Shinwari special Chappli Kebab and Kabuli Pulow. Both were scrumptious and tasty. They provide complimentary Afgani naan as well which was amazingly good.
They have enough seating capacity and the Afghani ambience is good.
A few points to note:
1. They accept only Cash.
2. If you are not a heavy foodie, be careful while you are ordering as they provide a large quantity of food.
A couple of points to raise, firstly, cutlery seems to be old. They need to renew the cutlery. Secondly, they need to use good air fresheners.

Excellent food, specially chappli kebab. Shinwari special platter was good as well, apart from the basmati rice were a lil hard boiled to chew. Sweet lasi was fine but the salty one was a lil tooo salty . But over all yumlicious food.
But we were very disappointed with the ambience and decor. Last time when i visited shiwari couple of years back. The decor was very nice very traditional and authentic but this time it looked as if it's left to be just a normal place to eat. And no one is bothered about the decor and ambience. As per customers we want to see that peshawari traditional look not just the carpet and floor sitting.

Best Afghan food around, and it's not even close. Meat and chicken cooked to perfection. Tender, juicy with authentic flavours. Seating is nice, booths available for family. The Kabuli Pulao is a MUST! 5* and highly recommended!

Both traditional floor and around the table seating. Atmosphere is authentic Afghan and Persian.
Kebab platter tastes very good. Could do with curry having less oil in it.
They do not serve tap water.
Service is friendly and personal thanks to the hosting staff Rezwaan.

Delicious food and great atmosphere. Sitting on the floor and breaking bread with loved ones made the experience even more enjoyable and entertaining. Highly recommended!

Delicious food and great value, the experience was very authentic and I enjoyed the friendliness of the staff members and customers. Sitting on the floor made me feel like I was part of the Afghan culture. I would definitely visit this place again.

Shanwari has really stepped up their quality of food. No one can touch their qabuli pilau recipe around East london. We have been their customers around 8 years now.

I went there with 5 other people on Friday gone. We ordered a Lamb Karahi, a Chicken Karahi, 2 chaloo kebab and 3 kofta kebab. The chaloo kebab and the kofta kebab are supposed to come out with the kebabs and rice together on one plate. The food came out cold. We sent them back. After waiting an eternity, the kebabs came out but the rice did not come out. After waiting another 15-20 mins, the rice came out but off course by that time the kebabs and the sauce became cold. I ordered a lamb karahi with a naan. The naan came out 40 minutes before the lamb karahi so I just ate a cold and hard naan with the lamb karahi as I could not waste any more time in there. Our bill came to approx £80 but the manager of the shop, a fat man with mostache did not even have the decency to apologize. Instead he was justifying to me that they are busy. If the restaurant is busy, that is not my problem. I have paid for the food to enjoy it in one go, not to have my food arrive in dribs and drabs over the course of 50 mins. We did not enjoy our meal one bit. I will never go back again. The few spoonfuls of cold food gave me a diarrhea the next day. The manager put his money before customer satisfaction, so he has lost this customer. There is a Persian place in Goodmayes called Kyber Grill which is much, much better in Persian food and service.

I went to shinwari today after a very long time. Since all this time I heard so much negativity abt the food that service has gone really down. But with all honesty I loved the food. All staffs were so welcoming. I was ordering mixed grill and kabuli Pulao separately and the waiter advised himself that it is better if I order special grill and they can swap plain rice with Kabuli Pulao. His advise was not only cost effective but also had enough serving. I enjoyed delicious chopan kebab and all grill items. Def worth a 5 star and will definitely start visiting more often now. Thank you for this service

Tasteless food. I ordered mix platter lamb boti was vey hard and chewy. Chicken was like boiled and smelly. Very expensive but tasteless. Lamb kharahi meat was very poor quality. The dish was full of bones instead of meat. Never go there again. Very disappointed

Absolutely rubbish food tasteless bolied chicken in chicken karahi not even rosted properly.
Will never go back ever again worst place I have ever been to they should spend less money on tv adverts and more on the quality of food and proper staff specially chefs.
Not worth a single dime not at all recommended should have gone to kheybar pass which was just around the corner.
Too expensive for such a crap service and food.

I often go to Shinwori. Obviously, because of delicious food and services. Well decorations. They have been maintaining the quality of their all foods over the years. I personally recommend this Afghan and Persian cuisine.

Its ok....we ordered starters but unfortunatley ended up getting dinner together with the starters..plus the food was so cold and the chappati was rotten hard..the manager had a go at the staff..he then apologised...we did not enjoyed it at all....

I was at Shinwari the place was fully booked but I was still given a consideration and soon given a seat. The hospitality was exceptional and the kebab was excellent will definitely recommend.

We went there in first week of October. We ate Chicken Karrahi and Persion Challo Kabab. Although food was nice they took around 45 mins to bring the food which I believe the record time I have waited anywhere in London. Moverover, I felt the food was a little bit overpriced.
Mujtaba Qureshi
I dont class them as a restaurant. Their service and food does not regard them as restaurant.
I visited Ilford brach London. Its worser than a worst high street food take way shop...
Please dont visit, its waste of money and time, respect your earning.
Infact one can get food poison as they serve stored cold food, lots of microwave work.
You got much better choices at the same street.
I dont understant why and how they got licence of restaurant from authorities, their local health clinic must be very busy because of them.

Average food, sky high prices with some really poor customer service. Not even close to original pakhtun food. Really disappointed.

Excellent food and mouth watering taste. I would recommend to every one who love food

Nura Ali
Very friendly and attentive staff. There were table settings as well as floor settings which I enjoyed. Ordered the sharing meat platter which came with 2 types of chutney and small salad. Quite a lot for 2 persons but very value for money. Food was alright and liked that the drinks weren’t overpriced.

I first noticed this restaurant, while returning from Valentine park, and curiously stepped inside it. The ambience was very different from a conventional restaurant. I saw people in small and large groups sitting on the carpet and enjoy their sumptuous dinner. We thought it must be very expensive and just stepped out without checking the menu list. Next time went there to dine with family. I was pleasantly surprised at the reasonable price for the quantity they offer. More than that the hosting staffs are extremely courteous and helpful. Since then we have visited there multiple times and invited friends as well. They have also thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience at Shinwari. So much so that every time I pass the restaurant during dinner time, I feel strong temptation to dine there. This is recommended for people like me for whom dine out means eat tasty cousins in large quantity and if possible with a group.

Fabulous food. Came here Sunday night after an event in London, with 2 friends, on a recommendation, as I don't know Ilford. We had steamed lamb, a rice dish, saag, and Kheer to follow. All of it faultless. Service was friendly and we had just the right amount of time to enjoy a glass of Lhasa and a chat before the main food arrived, despite the fact that it is obviously popular. Good portions too. And the bill? very reasonably priced indeed.... left here feeling happy and full and wishing I lived closer.

Probably the best food I've eaten out in quite a while.
These guys deserve to do well.

Although technically neither Persian nor Afghan, Shinwari provided the respective cuisines in spirit; we (all twenty odd of us) were made to eat on the floor, from communal bowls and with communal naans. It's a genius way to have a party, with the literal breaking of bread bringing us together as well as lack of obstructive things like tables and chairs getting in the way of group conversation.

The food itself was a mixed bag. We (over) ordered a variety of dishes, some of which were hits, many of which were misses. I liked the kebabs, the fruity rice and some of the meat dishes, but the rest were passable.

Still at 12 quid a head including drinks (consisting of a mango lassi), we couldn't really complain too much. The opportunity it gave to so many of us to engage and converse was worth the entry price alone - I'll have to go back in a smaller party to figure out whether it's any good as a restaurant though.
