This is a great shop. Firstly we we turned up 2 minutes after opening. The owner asked if we wanted in or out. When we took the opportunity to eat in he opened up the whole backend. The young lady serving was not experienced in the menu (hence the drop in the rating) but food was excellent and the location was excellent. The owner was so nice and kind.

Go large cod and large chips. Cooked just right. Make sure you ARE really hungry. Prices comparable with the norm nowadays dor chippies.

Just had dinner from Philpotts and it was lovely! The fish was huge and everyone said it was very nice, I had battered sausage and it was lovely, the chips were some of best chips I've had from a chip shop. The man working was very friendly and we will certainly be going back.

Just finished a delicious fish and chips from Philpotts. One of the very best I’ve had. Fish was lightly battered and very tasty. A rare compliment I can say is NOT A SINGLE BAD CHIP! All were crispy yet soft inside. Thoroughly recommend. 🐠

Best fish and chip shop in the area by far.!
I am a bit of a fish and chip connoisseur and quite picky. I found that every chippie in the area disappointed me in one way or another.... Not this one Chips are cooked to perfection (slightly crispy, fluffy in the middle and not too greasy) Fish is always fresh and also cooked very well. Service with a smile

Philpotts is in my opinion, the best Fish and Chips I have ever had (and I have had a few Fish in Chips!). I used to frequent this chippy as a kid in the 80s. And I have been in love with it ever since. Any trip to Hythe has to include a trip to Philpotts! Absolutely delicious.

Absolutely amazing every time! Our kids love the chips so much, we get a ferry from Southampton every couple of weeks especially to visit best chippy in the South! Warm welcome and service with a smile! Thank you! We will be back soon.

Very tasty fish & chips. Best in the south. The chef really knows his stuff and spares no effort to please his customers, regular or passing trade. Would not hesitate to visit again or recommend.

Some of the best chips i had.
A pleasent view from the back garden of the sea.
Seating area was clean and friendly staffed.
Only thing is its cash only but there is a cash machine just next.

As an American coming to England, this is what I think of as a real fish and chips shop. First the outside is so inviting....with the name of the shop is a pretty green and white. Walk in and you have a ceiling about 6 feet so if you are tall watch your head. But once you are in you REALLY feel like you have gone back in time. Now you have a choice.....in front of youare some yummy items that you can buy and take away. Or you can order off the huge menu in front of you on the wall. Several types of fish are available.....some breaded, some battered. You can put in your order and wait to take it out OR.....head for the back of the shop where there are lovely little tables with much more head room. Outside you will see the beautiful Solent....great view. Most likely the owner will be here to take your order. He is he son of the original owner and a really nice person. Don’t be shy........if you aren’t familiar with a traditional fish and chips shop, ask any questions.....they are happy to help. And don’t be afraid of the mushy peas......they are just peas...mushed. I don’t get why.....must be a British thing. Anyway do try Philpot’s Fish and chips. The fish is perfectly cooked and just delicious.

Good quality traditional fish & chips that compares well with any in the Yorkshire heartland of fish & chips. Writing as a connoisseur of this food, Phipotts has a varied menu and very friendly and helpful staff. Good quality fried fish should - like at this shop - have the fish skin removed before cooking. Many fish & chip friers in the south of England don't remove the skin because they use deep frozen fish that cannot withstand being deskinned. Only fresh fish are suitable. Philpots does it better - the traditional way.

Only had a small chips. Seemed a bit pricey at 2.20ish for a tray but it's certainly a case of quality over quantity. Some of the best chips I've ever had.

A charming, simple treasure by the bay! 400 year old building, 100 years a Fish and Chips place! Cooked fresh, served hot! Friendly too! We lucked out finding this little pleasure. Cash only. Grab a table and watch the sunset.

These chips are truly the BEST I've EVER had.....and they're consistently the same! Crispy on the outside and soft and smooth in the middle. Just add salt and vinegar.....!

By far the best fish and chips I have ever had... no exaggeration and I've eaten a lot in my time. Chips are freshly cut each day on site and the fish was huge and very chunky. No skin so ate every last piece.. well done we will return for sure. Thank you very much
