I agree with other reviews I've read here, do not be put off by the pub. I was initially but the food was delicious, all home cooked, you can tell the owner has years of experience cooking. We loved it so much we'll be going back.
Random discovery on our way to, would you believe it, a Cuban salsa festival. We had a delicious and authentic Cuban dinner here, work a warm welcome from the lovely Belen and her family. Will be back!
Absolutely fabulous, and the owner said she would make some of the older dishes that are not on the menu. She said ring me when you book, and I will make them for you."
Great food, very engaging staff, great choices of beer and cider, music is consistently good, depending if it’s from the jukebox. Been going here for years because of my mother who loves this pub.
Convenient for bus travel, bus stops are near and there’s a Supermarket next door.
Would recommend the Sunday Dinner such good value and there's also a vegetarian option
Superbly cooked and very tasteful. Only slight letdown for me was lack of cocktails even though are advertised. Chips looked like out of the bag. Very good service even though only 1 front of house on. Very kindly given some beef in gravy from the Sunday dinner leftovers when it could of easily been thrown in the bin. My belly definitely appreciated the kind gesture :) The 3 tapas and glass of wine is a absolute bargain at just under£12, very good portions and very hot and fresh 👍
The owners and staff in this place are some of the most welcoming I have encountered, always make a point to pop in when I'm in Hyde for any reason. Excellent real ales on tap at fair prices. 100% worth a visit to this authentic boozer. Viva la revalution
Foods and price are not bad. Warm welcome also from the owner. But I think it will be better if they've got more choices from their menu. Also the place needs a little bit of updating and a bit tight.
Oh my word! This place is AMAZING!!!!! Without meaning any disrespect to The Sportsman, when you walk into the pub downstairs, your first thoughts are 'am I in the right place?' and 'it's a bit of a dive'. DO NOT BE FOOLED...
You need to go upstairs to the restaurant which is homely despite the need for social distancing.
The tapas plates are divine. We had meatballs, chicken and chorizo, yellow rice and chicken, mushrooms in a blue cheese sauce, vegetarian tortilla, patatas bravas, crispy cod and garlic bread. The cod was the most delicious fish EVER! The batter was the lightest batter I have tasted in my life. I hate blue cheese, but in the sauce it was gorgeous! Everything was perfect!
Our waiter was attentive without being obtrusive or irritating. My daughter said the mojito was the best she'd ever had.
If there is only one place you are going to eat - make it here!
Sunday lunchtime with my friend Carol ; the best food I have ever tested. Deal of the day 3 absolutely beautiful tapas and glass of wine. SO much delicious food!!! Must be fun in the evenings with all the cocktails.... Perfecto - Cuban music I'd s bonus!
Really happy with this place small and cosy with a great tapas type menu food was wonderful with good staff. The owner of the place was wonderful and extremely friendly this was our first time and we will be coming again. The only negative was you have to go through the pub to get to it which badly needs a makeover as it can seem a bit rough but luckily this do's not detract from the great restaurant above it
Genuine family Cuban atmosphere.
The people that run this place are genuinely lovely hard working people, who put pride in their cooking.
Food is to die for. Takeaway is available at very reasonable prices.
And I had the opportunity to peek in the kitchens (this is an OCD habit of mine)... the kitchens are spotless!
I would be happy to have a surgical procedure in here!
Well done!
This is a wonderfully diffrent experiance. You have to walk through the pub down stairs to get upstairs but its a fun little find. The food is lovely and authentic and reasonably priced the drinks are also cheaper than your average restraunt. We went with a celiac friend and his 2 year old son also with celiacs and they did not struggle to find plenty of gluten free options. Give it a go i promise you will enjoy the experiance.
Excellent, tasty food at reasonable prices. Lovely lady who makes it, rushing around and still smiling
Superb little restaurant, tapas is excellent, something for everyone. Very welcoming, good atmosphere, well priced. Been here many times, will keep coming back!
Food was very tasty, full of flavour and reasonably priced. Service was great. Cosy tapas bar hidden in Hyde, highly recommended.
I have had food from here before.
EVERY person who had eaten the food from here (and this includes me) has said how tasty and well presented it is. Priced just right but you would pay more. Just opened again. Pop into sportsman for a drink and order at the bar. The food will be brought down to you
I visited on the evening of 31st March 2013 with my family, we try different nationalities of food every 2 months, El Cuba Libra was certainly oustanding.
Don't be put off by the pub downstairs El Cuba Libra is a small restaurant but the food is reasonably priced and excellent.
Service is a little slow but the food justifies the wait, I can't wait for my next visit.
