Argyle playing "The Terriers" today! Nearly 7hrs after setting off from Devon, I have arrived!! Right alongside the railway station is this impressive pub. Met with the Midlands cronies and had a few jugs. Had a real ale called "Legover" which was excellent. Good speedy bar staff as it was busy. 1400 fans again today. Trouble is these pubs don't cater for the avalanche of fans and consequently within the hour they were down to 2 ales from the original 12 !! They really need to do their research because they are dipping out massively financially by not planning in advance.....Nice pub though with fans from both teams enjoying the camaraderie....
Great if you want to taste an excellent Pie... Good selection of beer... Attached to Huddersfield station and opposite St George's Square... Low prices and a true authentic English pub atmosphere! I recommend it to have a pint alone or with friends!
Excellent pub on the platform of Huddersfield railway station. A vast range of cask ales. Dog friendly too.
Really good Pie options :-)
21/07/23: love it!
16/06/23: fantastic choice of keg, cask and ciders! Great service! Lovely, both inside and out with a good sun trap terrace. Dog friendly! HOS never fail to please in any city!
Decor a bit tired, but great pies and beer! Great piped music, not too loud. Very nice, helpful service too.
Wonderful pub with an amazing cask and keg selection. The staff are really friendly and knowledgeable. The music while I was there was the right volume, not offensive and fun enough to keep you entertained. They are dog friendly and have treats available
I was surprised at how much this pub had changed from the last time I visited.
There was plenty of choices with real ale. They claimed a choice of 18, but I didn't see more than 12 pumps.
The food was Pieminster, which I've found to be poor in the past, but this was good fare.
Will visit again!
Lunchtime at the Head of Steam was quieter than I thought it would on a Tuesday. So the atmosphere was quiet. Which might be what you are looking for. It's right on the railway station with taxis and buses but pay parking at the bus station so no excuse about difficult or inconvenient to get to.
It's a proper pub, pub. With plenty of real beer choice. It's good well kept beer too.
We had the pieminister offer of food which was home made, good value, tasty and filling. Excellent for a cold December day.
The real test is would I go again? Yes.
The second test is why have I not been in a while? I don't know. Must go again, soon.
Sat on the platform, such a perfect location, 4 rooms of Cask Ale, Craft Beer and Ciders, not forgetting the food is from Pieminister... Pie, Mash and pint for 10.95... could not fault at all.
The location, the service, the staff, the food, the drinks, just spot on, even bought a range of beer to bring home.
20% discount on all take outs.. the place that just keeps giving
Extremely lovely barmaid on a Tuesday evening. V friendly and down to earth pub with a slightly quirky traditional train station feel. Excellent ales, and a good pie and peas deal (veggie available).
Great place if you like your ales. A whole room dedicated to cask and another to craft with an electronic board showing both gives you everything that you need.
Food wise it's pies, or pies. So I ordered a pie mash and gravy but was bemused to find it served at my table in a cardboard box with wooden knife and fork! Not so easy to eat but the pie was nice and tasty. When I queried this I was told I could have asked for it to be served on a plate with cutlery if I had wanted. Since this was not suggested as an option when I ordered, it would appear to be a secret that I can share with you.
Although very busy managed to get served reasonably quickly...didn't get chance to look at the beer range ...but looked OK
Another great place to enjoy a nice cold pint, especially handy between train and bus connections. Due to COVID they are operating a reduced menu but it is pies by Pieminister and they are also very tasty. Friendly and knowledgeable staff will also help you find the right drink to suit your taste.
Good pub, with lots of real ales. Also ideal for train station as pub door lead straight onto platform
Open mike night, very good turnout of semi professional guitar and singing acts, very enjoyable night, very professionally run. Beer slightly expensive but good choice
Nice traditional pub, with a selection of railway memorabilia type decor.
Good selection of beers.
Friendly service.
Exceedingly convenient when traveling by train.
Generally fairly quiet most afternoons, can get very busy on Saturdays especially if there's a football game with Town.
The rooms at the back are usually quieter. There's four rooms altogether, though only service at the front two.
The only downside of the place, is it can be a little expensive.
Attended for our annual ‘Uddersfield ‘Ogmanay geocaching event, along with about 25 others. Great beer, good service and friendly staff, especially Clair who joined in our raffle raising money for the Holme Valley Mountain Rescue.
Great beer, great service, dog friendly. Shame the only food they do these days is Pieminster pies, I remember them doing amazing pizzas
