Largish venue which offers space for events. The main chamber has no windows leading directly outside but, thankfully, the roof is glazed in a large part so the inside is lit with natural light. Food is rather good and coffee is great. There's always some sweet options available but I'm yet to try it. The dogs are welcome inside and the tables are spaced comfortably far enough. Card payments accepted, tips only taken in cash. Free parking available on-site but is often full-up. More spaces along Armitage Road. I've eaten here a few times and it was consistently a good experience. If I could change anything I would render the bacon's fat more. Most recently I've ordered a cheeseburger with extra streaky bacon and the fat was still too white for my liking through the most of it, soft and there was nearly no crispiness in the rasher. Just the edges were kinda ok. It was still a good meal just not exactly as I like it.

Had an absolutely delicious stack of the pancake special, we just popped in for breakfast as it was en route for going out for a walk and it definitely feels like a hidden gem that’s a little away from the main road. Very reasonable prices, very pleasant staff and really good food, would recommend.

Lunch with friends. Great venue with lots of parking. Extensive menu of delicious sounding food. I had Welsh rarebit. It was delicious, followed by a very good Americano coffee. I did pinch a friends chip and that was cooked to perfection. The service was patient while we chatted instead of choosing and when taking and serving very friendly and polite.

I am checking out dog friendly locations - "I had to eat this in the name of research" for Poppy and Coco 🤣😂🤣 I have been wanting to visit for ages, today was the day. I was greeted with a warm smile from all staff I encountered. I had looked at the menu online, but on arrival spotted the "today's Sunday brunch special" it certainly was special - it was DELICIOUS. I had two coffee's and stayed around 2 hours reading, everyone was happy to leave me to it, just checking in occasionally without me feeling I was taking up a table. I kept an eye on others food and everything looked amazing, full English was huge, and pancakes (3 per portion) came with jam and syrup on the side - which I prefer as sometimes they can have too much syrup. A great spot - will definately be back - need to try those pancakes 😋😋😋

Excellent food, brilliant staff and atmosphere. We've eaten here several times and never been disappointed. They are also giving up their time on Christmas Day to feed ~250 for free. An absolutely class act 👏

What a lovely surprise. We went in for lunch to kill time between my daughter's flute and piano exams just across the river. The welcome was warm, the service was quick and friendly, and the food was lovely. The warm welcome and excellent service wasn't just reserved for humans either - there were several dogs in who were very well looked after with bowls brought out for them. The Michelin stars were initially meant to represent being worthy of a stop along the way for one, worth a detour for two and worth a special journey for three. Going by that standard, I'd say Sons of the North is worth at least two, if not three. I am tempted to book future music exams over the river despite there being at least two closer venues just so we can come back here!

First time here. Fab breakfast, tasty food and quality coffee at reasonable prices. Good atmosphere - dog friendly without being taken over with a relaxed vibe. Staff were friendly and helpful, and although we were not there for long, we never felt rushed. Will definitely visit again 😊

I used the North Light Café as a race HQ for a multi-terrain race recently. We were delighted with our accommodation provided by the café. North Light Café is lovely spacious facility right at the top of the site. It offers a wide range of the usual beverages plus gorgeous cakes. As a post race rehydration station it proved very popular with many of our runners. Nice friendly service in a peaceful atmosphere. We very much hope to return with another race in the future. No hesitation to recommend it as a super hidden gem of a place.

A lovely bright airy cafe in the heritage building of Brooke’s Mill. The staff are really good, the coffee is lovely and the bacon sandwich I had was tasty. Everything in this building is well kept, clean and tidy. The cafe always seems pretty busy when I go in so it must be doing okay. The staff are lovely too, really helpful and served our food and drinks just as we’d asked for. There’s a history room across from the cafe that’s well worth a visit, showing the heritage of the Brooke family who I think still own the whole milll complex. Now of course it is divided into separate units, one being the cafe. There’s also an art gallery, a dance study and a fitness centre in the same area as the cafe. Overall a good experience.

We have been coming here for years for breakfasts and lunches and this year pizza evenings! Never disappointed. Also our golden retriever enjoys the free treats when he joins us. Excellent all round.
