Great award winning traditional pub. Fantastic range of real ales craft beers and whiskeys reasonably priced. Nice food. They have some great live music here -always a great atmosphere and friendly helpful staff. Probably the best pub in town if not in Huddersfield.

Great pub. A must when in Huddersfield. Excellent service, great ales and good food. We originally discovered the Sportsman after visiting the buffet bar on Staleybridge Station (sister pub). It is the latter than needs to up its game - our visit yesterday was disappointing.

Down from Tyneside for yesterday's match and we visited this pub on the advice of the local amongst our ranks. Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your pub - great choice of drink, lovely food (curried goat pie) and a welcoming atmosphere. Thank you.

Very good pub in terms of decor and atmosphere. Very good choice of cask Ale and craft beer, I'd recommend the Sanda Black IPA. The staff are friendly and welcoming.

Excellent selection of real ales, totally blown away with the new Pie menu. I had the special, Cullen Skink, which was absolutely gorgeous. The staff are just lovely. Always the first stop on our Ale Trail.

Huddersfield has always had great pubs but this is up there with the very best. Nothing but praise for it.

Great little pub with fantastic beer and staff, part of the holy trinity of a good night out in Hudds that avoids the town centre and overpriced lager: Rat n Ratchet, Grove, Sportsman - Job done!

Newest addition to Huddersfields Real Ale Trail; ideal location 2 minutes walk from the Railway Station by the viaduct above Tesco's. Recently aquired by Mike Field who also has the West Riding Licensed Refreshment Rooms on Dewsbury Station and the Cellar Bar by Batley station. The exterior is plain but hides a well preserved art deco interior with many original features. Add to this 6 well kept Real Ales and I am in 7th heaven! Given this pubs pedigree and location it should be a Real Ale Mecca! There is also a seated outdoor smoking area to the rear.

Great drinks to be had at the Sportsman. Lovely art deco interior and great service. Beers change on a regular basis, so there's always something new to sample. Love music is also a really good addition.

Good Pub, friendly service, decent beer, big selection of real ale, cask & keg. No food on but in this financial climate that's unsurprising. Will definitely frequent here more often. Plus little Gas fire, wood burner effect stove in the corner, who doesn't love a fire in there pub? Get in there

If you want a pint of good beer while in the area then deffo go here. I was up there working in March and drinking on my own. This a 10 walk from a local brewery and Taproom so it was perfect for me. The bar itself is quite small but perfectly formed. The range of beers is great from light to dark for different budgets too. Car parking could be difficult but it's also 10 mins walk from the train station.

Great old pub with excellent choice of beers, not tried the food but believe it's good. Decor a little tired in places.

Popped in for a quick pint after visiting The Crate Escape nearby. Amazing selection of very well kept beers. The interior is fantastic, a really characterful bar, I'll definitely be back!

Great always changing selection of beers. Cosy atmosphere with friendly staff. Nice courtyard for when the days are warmer. For once a pub that's not the same as all the others.
