We love this pub and after hosting our wedding reception, it will forever remain special. I genuinely don’t think there’s another place in Huddersfield where you get such beautiful views combined with wonderful food and ever friendly staff. I can not recommend this place highly enough
What a great pub. Turned up at 3.30pm and the place was packed but they still managed to fit the four of us in with no hassle. The food was great and portions were huge and two courses for less than £14.00. Give this place a visit you won’t be disappointed.
PS The landlord was such a lovely genuine guy. Shame he supported Man Utd 🤓
Myself, my 90 year old mum (in a wheelchair) and my stepdad arrived for Sunday lunch after we'd been told in another pub that it was eat upstairs or starve.
We couldn't have asked for more from either the very helpful and friendly staff to the well cooked and delicious food!! The roast beef and the roast lamb were both perfect and were accompanied by Yorkshire Puddings as good as my own!! We all had garlic mushrooms for starter and they were so creamy and garlicky!! I can recommend the Raspberry Eton Mess for dessert xx
Great service and great food. The views down the valley are great too will definitely come back again. Had the Sunday Roast (Beef) very tender great giant Yorkshire pudding and delicious gravy. Plenty of veg as well, 3 courses £17 great value

We rang ahead and tried to book a table for Sunday lunch but we're told it was fully booked inside. We were advised instead to head up for opening and grab a table outside for our party of six. We were greeted warmly and warned that as they were busy the food might be a while, however everything arrived correctly, in good time and presented beautifully. It's the best pub Sunday lunch we have had in years and we will definitely be back. I could have licked the plate the gravy was so tasty!!! Beautiful views too!
A Big thank you to all the staff who helped make my mums 60th birthday family get together a great success. Brilliant setting, friendly staff and the buffet hot food was spot on. Thanks again!

Excellent service, food and views ! Enjoyed a great countryside walk up to the top of Cop Hill, then ate a well deserved lunch. All plates empty, as food was fabulously tasty!
Lovely local pub on my door step changed a lot over the years but it's a beautiful place to go for food or a pint.
We celebrated our diamond wedding there yesterday with all our family. Everything was perfect. We were well looked after by everyone and the food was excellent. Mary and Owen Nuttall
Highly recommend the steak night , cooked to our perfection , adult portions of cheesecake . Very friendly atmosphere and busy to say its in the middle of nowhere at the top of an hill .
Really enjoyed our lunch here the food was lovely I know we waited but I always think you know it has been freshly prepared so I haven't a problem with that staff really friendly would recommend to friends and family.
If you visit the Rose & Crown, you must try the Steak & Ale Pie it's the Best.
Lovely, cosy, friendly atmosphere, fast service, helpful staff.
We will certainly be visiting again soon :)
I love the rose and crown , great food, steve and all the staff are great, never ever had a bad meal, love it , X
Ate Sunday lunch here yesterday...we were late and they were very nice about this. Starters of prawn cocktail,pâté and soup were very pleasant. The 3 mains of Sunday roast dinner were a long time materialising and were very ordinary. Plain carrots and broccoli ,mash, roasts and tasteless gravy. We enjoyed it but could have got it far cheaper elsewhere. The puddings were lovely. Staff were very pleasant but we had to ask twice for the bill. We had a table by the entrance which was a bit draughty. Would deffo visit again but not for the Sunday roast...would be more adventurous next time. Setting is lovely and views beautiful. Total cost including 2 diet cokes ,2 g and ts and a tonic 57 pounds.
A few of my friends and I decided to venture out into the depths of Yorkshire to get to know our neighbouring towns (Leeds has bled us dry!).
Whilst we drove, winding through country lanes and forgotten roads, we decided we would find a lovely little country pub for a romantic Valentines' weekend dinner - and what a find.
We walked in to tables dimly lit with wicker lamps that looked out over the Huddersfield suburbs. We couldn't have found a more beautiful view as the sun was setting and streetlights began to glitter.
The landlord was instantly welcoming and was baffled to know that we had found him by chance, as apparently a satnav is a must-have to find it. We shared our money woes as poverty-striken students, so he directed us to the ridiculously cheap lunch menu - the portions were huge!
The boards around the bar advertised live music and pub quizzes, along with messages of love and life for upcoming Valentines Day. We really couldn't have found a more idyllic, friendly place for a late Saturday meal and I would recommend it to anyone out for a spontaneous road trip!
found this by chance on Sunday. Obviously a popular place, there were lots of people dining. Really enjoyed the food, possibly with the exception of the mushy peas ;0)
Staff were friendly, and prices not too bad, although on the high side for pub food at £9 for a main course, the quality was worth it
Went here on a busy August sunday afternoon, what a delightful place it is!
Had a smashing steak and ale pie which I thoroughly enjoyed. And the chips.oh my goodness! The chips! Yummmmm
Definately going there again next time I'm in the area.
This pub has a lot going for it. To start with it has a great owner and staff. They are truly concerned with making you feel welcomed. Secondly the location is fantastic! Then there is a good selection of ales and lagers. So much for the pub. But there is also a proper restaurant element and that is not to be to neglected. Apart from anything else, they serve the best chunky chips in a 50 mile radius. All in all, I am very happy to have this one as my 'local', considering there are half a dozen pubs closer to our house.
Absolutely beautiful food.
Landlord is extremely friendly, and his staff are a credit to him.
Striking scenery, and a fanatic story about the Australian ghost attached to the pub.
We'll certainly return.

This is a pub I spent a lot of time in, in my youth. Glad to say the food and service is topnotch, very friendly staff. Two for one meals brilliant.
A good view of slaithwaite and marsden. plenty of outdoor seats, we arrived 1:40pm and did wait a bit long for our meals. the steak pie was delicacy and plenty of beef steak. the fish pie was in generous portion, it would be perfect if had more smoke fish in it. the fish and chips were tasty and plenty of garden peas. sticky toffee pudding with custard was tasty.
Good selection of beers and wines available. The food is fantastic and never disappoints with a wide menu on offer. Very friendly and helpful staff. The views are amazing and you can enjoy this from the large outside seating area. Plenty of parking spaces. Also caters for private events.
Its an unbelievable experience walking from Slaithewaite to the pub.
Several miles uphill.
The rewards are worthwhile.
Great views and location.
Absolutely fantastic menus and foods to match.
The lunchtime menu was excellent.
Numerous beers and several craft beers, wines and much regular pub fayre.
The interior decor is very comfortable and the atmosphere is traditional pub, but modern day.
Highly recommended.
Will be back again next time in town.
5*👌. Just when you think this absolute gem of a pub and restaurant can't possibly improve, they never fail to amaze and impress. The food is just perfection and the lovely staff are not only extremely attentive but always have a smile on their faces 😁! Also the views and the beautiful pub alone are well worth a trip. (sorry Dave Kennedy but I'd dived into the cheesecake before I took the pic 🙈😁)
Their food is nice and really worth the price but I think they have a short of staff. Our food needed more than half an hour to be served and we were starving 😂
It's nice to sit out side in a sunny day but please be awared that as the pub is near to farms, so you can not avoid bad smell sometimes.
Got Sunday lunch here, hadn't booked but they fitted us in.
Have to say the service was exceptional, really friendly & efficient.
Food was delicious & the atmosphere lovely & relaxed.
Overall had a really nice dining experience. Would recommend to anyone in the area.
AMAZING views, great friendly service..food spot on !
Would defo recommend
Great view. Came here for a function and they were really good with creating a menu to my Grandmas choices and gave my vegetarian sister multiple choices of items on the day. The staff were welcoming and very attentive and they had the food ready and warm. Can't fault the starters, the main roast dinner was good but the beef was a let down. The pudding again was delicious and the gentleman who was looking after us (I presume the owner) was in great spirits, helped us cut and package the cake after presenting it lit up for the birthday girl. We had a great night and waddled away very full.
