We held my husbands 40th party in the function suite, staff were great, venue is lovely and food was amazing. They supplied the DJ who was great playing varied music and interacting with people on the dance floor, great night and would highly recommend using the venue for any celebrations
My wife booked this for a family lunch on a whim (having done a quick internet search). What a nice place it is.
Service was good, and at just the pace we needed.
Menu features very traditional pub grub, and I could literally have eaten any of the options offered.
Food was decent 'gastro-pub' quality, and although it wasn't cheap, it was good value.
There is a snug with a big TV which is nice because the tv is not in the restaurant.
Decent sized function room upstairs.
I suspect we will go back at some point.
Thank you to all the fantastic staff (especially Sharon, Rory and Steve the DJ) for making my 30th Birthday party absolutely perfect.
I was very impressed with everything, and will definitely recommend the Boarding House to anyone hosting a party!

Thanks for the warmest of welcomes when with you on our anniversary with our twins. Our server that day was outstanding helping us ensure the babies fed first allowing us to enjoy our lunch too.

Booked today for afternoon tea for four was fantastic value lovely fresh sandwiches scones and cakes beautifully served with loads of tea great friendly staff in a lovely environment just a wee tad warm. Well worth the visit and a box of left overs home as well x

Popped in for an early dinner and really enjoyed it. It’s a great looking restaurant. Nice touches and modern looking.
Susan and Shannon, the 2 servers really made it good. They were knowledgeable, professional and welcoming. Even when it started getting busy they kept cool and worked as a team.
Food was a cut above what I was expecting. Chef definitely has a good touch.

Visited the restaurant for lunch.
Food was lovely (fish and chips, mac n cheese, meat free burger with coffee and cake to follow). The staff were very helpful - every member of staff who came to our table was excellent.
We weren't rushed in the least and consequently had a pleasant, memorable afternoon.
Definitely going to be our new local for food, we did the 2 courses menu, (great value for money)
I had the mackerel to start (whatever the pickle pot was, it’s absolute 10/10) and my partner had the soup.. couldn’t fault it.
He then had the fish and chips (sceptical due to bad past experiences) it was another 10/10. I had the steak pie which tasted like my nana used to make, absolute perfection!
Overall a beautiful restaurant, big thank you to the man who served us (didn’t get his name) but made us feel very welcome! We will definitely be back!
On July 8th 2023 my friends had a reunion party for me here. 10/10 for everything! Beautiful venue, food, staff and service. Truly exceptional. I would highly recommend this lovely establishment for a function.
My friend took me for my birthday. Great selection on lunch menu and lovely atmosphere. Food was delicious! Recommend the Ceaer Salad with the chicken! Yum 😋

Gem of a place for lunch. Choice of two course lunch or other options from the menu. Parking on site. Food delicious (“best fish I’ve had for ages” said my husband). Staff super friendly. Oh, must mention the great smelly hand soap/moisturiser in toilets. One suggestion…an additional vegetarian option on lunch menu: maybe veggie fajitas? Though the girl did say menu changing next week. Definitely worth the five stars.

The food was beautifully cooked. The staff were super friendly, had a good laugh. I found the prices very reasonable. Place was immaculate and clean. Will absolutely go back again!

Very slow service and unfortunately we had to leave without being served our food order.
We had waited 40 mins for pate and a chicken wrap.
Due to a medical appointment at 3pm, we wouldn't have had time to eat.
Disappointing and such an important day.
Monday may not be the best day to try out a restaurant for the first time.
Lovely atmosphere. Great prices. Friendly staff.
However it wasn't all perfect as we had expected going by other reviews.
Gambas Pil Pil had plenty of good size prawns and lots of garlic but was missing the chilli /paprika aspect. The bread that came with it was lovely, but 1 slice would suffice (can't really fault for giving 2).
The crab, chilli and lime special starter was great.
The main courses we had were lovely (haddock Mornay), huge and tasty but lacking a kick(quesadillas) and salty (Thai chicken kebabs). Also the chips were overly salted. I wasn't a fan of the thin-ness either. But others like the 'scraps' style chips.
The only other criticism would be the time it took for the food to come out. Again this may have been a Monday thing. But it wasn't overly long.
We will be back for Sunday roast at some point as that seems to be what the restaurant is best known for.
First time visiting at it was absolutely lovely!! Excellent food & service. Would highly recommend. We'll definitely visit again!
Had Sunday lunch in here today...we eat out 3 or 4 times a week and can honestly say it's best Sunday roast we have ever had in a resturaunt. Food is fantastic and resturaunt is decorated lovely!
Visited lunch time 19th July with my sister, decor spotless, bright and spacious, service excellent, both friendly and helpful, food was fantastic and slight problem with my sisters main course was address and resolved without fuss, would definitely recommend and will revisit.

We came through Howwood on a motorcycle trip so stopped here for a quick lunch. The staff were super friendly, the food excellent and there was good parking around the back. A really nice place to stop for lunch and I'd happily recommend it
