In my opinion one of the best places to eat in Norfolk , massive portions delightful delicious food , fantastic menu with plenty of variety, staff are all friendly , owner is lovely and will go out of his way to prepare meals which sometimes aren't even on the menu if he can . Love love love this restaurant, as do all our friends which we have taken there to dine . Make sure you book to avoid disappointment, as gets extremely busy even during the week.
Been to the recruiting sergeant many times & never had a bad meal..had a table for 11 of us last Saturday for my 40th & it was brilliant!! Great food,great service..really cannot fault this place..absolutely top class!! Out of all the places I've been to the sergeant is by far the best!!!
Made a trip to this lovely gem of a place after Xmas. I had my eye on the seafood tapas after seeing photos on facebook, however this is only available in the evenings and it was lunchtime. After a little persuasion and explaination we had travelled from Blackpool the chef kindly agreed to do us one! Needless to say we werent disappointed and was worth the trip! We were very impressed with this pub. The manager was very accommodating and found seating for us, even though we were 1.5 hrs early for our booking. The staff were polite and friendly and the food was exellent. There was a great selection of both children and adult food and our meals were all served promptly. To be honest it was some of the best food we had ever eaten and the desserts were amazing too. Definitely recommend!
Myself and wife had a meal here on a busy Saturday night.
The food was absolutely fantastic!! Not the cheapest but you really do get what you pay for.
But what really made the night was the service. Extremely attentive and a credit to the restaurant.
Wonderful staff..food very good..there fish delicious, but chips let them down ,this time, very soft, they needed a little extra cooking time.
As I was with a 91 year for his birthday treat , I didnot mention to staff.i would have done normally...Been with family many times ...never had a problem
Arrived 1030 looking forward to breakfast. They stop at 10am but they made an exception for me. The meal was fabulous and the banter with the staff was good humoured. Very happy customer.
The recruiting sergeant public house is amazing. I asked Nicola if I could use the small garden room as I was getting married and just had 12 guests she was very pleased to help us. She helped set the table out. She was absolutely amazing. She worked really hard made my wedding day, superb she came in and served our Table with wine made us very very very welcome could not have asked for better food was superb as always. I had a splendid day thanks to Nicola and all her hard-working staff. Thank you for making my day Nicola amazing.
Had a family birthday meal. Got parked easily, lovely warm place, staff polite and efficient. Lovely meal and yes I would go back. Google want me to rate it as a hotel, as I only live a little way away I have no idea.

Arrived NYE with my brother in law and his wife and 3 dogs for 2 nights.
The rooms are comfortable with plenty of space with lovely modern bathrooms.
The food is incredible. There are no other words to describe it. So much choice and always made with the freshest ingredients. The portions are very very generous so go hungry.
You will not be disappointed.
The hospitality here is second to none. Every member of staff always delivers the best service and Nicola, the joint owner, is the real driving force behind them. Her and her husband deliver the best hospitality and food we've had in this kind of establishment it's a 3 hour drive from our home to here but absolutely worth it.
I've been visiting family in this area for years but had never visited here, bending to the hype I attended, lovely pub not a restaurant in my eyes but the prices reflected those of a restaurant.

FOOD - decent range of food options slightly over priced for a pub, as to me this was pub food, mushy peas with a hint of mint, the chefs aiming to take this pub to the restaurant level, but for something as easy a chips needs improving, pale and not fully cooked, maybe because the place was busy.
Maybe this is the best place around for those locals, but I would take a drive to gain something much better.

Arrived at 4pm for Sunday lunch and the place was absolutely packed. It doesn't appear to be a pub for drinking. There are a large number of tables but the service is superb. We ordered an aperitif and this arrived within a couple of minutes. So often the drinks service can be so slow that your meal is arriving before your pre-lunch drink. We were off in a small cosy side room which can often be the death of decent service, but the small army of hyper-vigilant waitresses kept popping by to see if anything needed ordering or clearing. A refreshing change from the places where wait-staff appear to execute a task and steadfastly refuse to survey their surroundings to see if anything else can be done for customers. This kept up pretty faultlessly for the duration - further drinks orders practically materialising before you'd put an empty glass down. Lunch arrived promptly. Huge roast beef and roast pork lunches in our case. Very good quality meat and lots of it. Decent Yorkshire pudding. Nice fresh well-cooked green veg. We thought the rest of it was a bit bland to be honest. No space for a dessert sadly. A really good lunch overall and one of the best-run places at this scale we've eaten in for a while.
Delicious meal today, a menu that you will enjoy taking your time over and will probably change your mind at least once. Fabulous fish options, I enjoyed scallops followed by halibut. Absolutely enormous portions and terrific quality ingredients and attention to detail (de-veined prawns...fantastic!). Piping hot (free facial sauna with the steaming suet pudding, see pic) and quick service, very impressive given how busy it was. Lovely setting and excellent service, efficient, friendly and experienced! What a treat! We all enjoyed our dishes and would highly recommend. Thank you!

Celebrating mums 79th birthday, there were 20 of us. From the get go made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Didn't have to pre order food in advance and even though there were a few of us and the restaurant was full, food orders and speed of service was excellent. Vast menu, was difficult to choose what to have as such a good choice. All food coming out was exceptional and none of us were disappointed. Still talking about it 2 weeks on! Can't wait to return.
The Recruiting Sergeant has been a family favourite of ours for years. Even though the food sometimes takes a while to arrive, it is consistent, and portions are large for the amount you are paying. Staff are also kind and willing to help with any issue you may have. I would always recommend getting the barbecue ribs!
