Only re-discovered this place during the Summer. My wife and I have since been for afternoon tea and evening meals on at least half a dozen occasions. We have never booked but have never been turned away. Service is always superb and the quality of the food could not be better. Portion sizes are great and this is the only restaurant that I have been to in recent years that doesn't, a) jam you in like sardines and b) rush you. Equally good if you are going out for a special occasion or just on your way home. My only regret, I have not yet got there in time to try a full English breakfast.
Very nice relaxed place. Excellent good honest food, great service and will definitely be going again. I had the Christmas dinner (yes a tad early !) but it was tasty, hot and lovely veggies too. We had ice cream with chocolate sauce which was nice and not too sickly.
Best restaurant in West Sussex , home cooked meal and a real warm welcome like going home for dinner if it's not in your list to visit it should be xxxx
A lovely little cafe that's next to the old West Grinstead railway station (perfect rest stop if walking or cycling the North Downs Link path). If you have dogs they aren't allowed in the cafe, although the orchard itself has plenty of tables (some covered) & water bowls for the dogs. Our sandwiches were very nice, although a little slow to prepare. It wouldn't put me off going again. It was lunchtime after all.
Had forgotten just what a gem this place is as no longer commute past. Decided to drop in today for a lunch after a trip over to the Bluebell Railway as wanted something nicer and more enjoyable atmosphere than Mc D's just down the road.
So glad we did. Food was miles more pleasant and the atmosphere so much more relaxed. Service was honestly exemplary and it was worth waiting a little while (not long) for our food.
Will have to come back more often
Well done The Orchards! 20 of us had booked for a breakfast celebration at Cotes Horsham, when we arrived, East Street had no water. We phoned The Orchards and they saved the day. Large group, short notice, food & service fantastic. Well done & Thank you
Today l attended a motorcycle club turn up at this "Fantastic Place ". The service was fabulous the food tasty and divine. When we arrived the lady serving us said that they were short staffed and service would be a bit slower.
We had 13 bikers turn up. Plus the rest of the restaurant was full. We had a Stella time at the Orchard. The food was excellent as was the service. 5*****. Congratulations to the whole team. Regards. Neville Campbell
Toby and gang had a super full english breakfast at The Orchard (outside in the actual orchard!) today. Everything was excellent as usual and Sarah greeted us like old friends, with attentive service from other staff too. The vegetarian option was superb and the staff dealt with our complicated order like the true professionals they are. Thank you! See you again soon!
Pretty little garden to rear with plenty of shaded tables. Ample parking. Fantastic walk/ bike ride pathway behind (East Grinstead old railway). Recommended the homemade coffee and walnut cake - wow! Bought more to take home for later!
Really well organised, precise and extremely clean. Good food was freshly prepared and arrived efficiently. A lot of well trained staff that must enable volumes of people to be served for peak demand.
Internally is perhaps a bit bland for some, reflecting the attention to detail in everything, but there's the orchard outside that must be fabulous on a warm summer's day.
Would recommend for great value for breakfast.
Lovely gardens where dogs are welcomed. Tasty toasted sandwich. Delicious Eton Mess
We had an off the cuff visit but were easily accommodated. The menu choice was huge for the size of the restaurant. Everything was homemade and was absolutely delicious, with the quiche being a particular highlight. The owner was friendly and the whole experience was an absolute pleasure.
Lovely atmosphere, great food and spotlessly clean.
The lady serving is so lovely and very attentive, she has a very calming way about her and made us feel very at home.
Would recommend to all, we will defiantly visit again!
I would come back as the service was very good.
I feel the portions could be slightly larger and overall may be aimed at the over 60's.
I had the stew with dumplings which was very tasty.
The menu is quite extensive with something for everyone.
Pricing is average for this area.
Large carpark but be careful on exiting as this is a busy road on a sweeping bend
This is an excellent place to eat. It has an excellent range of dishes and beverages both alcoholic and non alcoholic. If you're a diabetic there is ice cream for diabetics which was really nice. This is a good place to eat. The downs link path runs behind the building along a disused railway line, the station platform is still there as is a signal that can be hand operated. A nice level walk before or after eating is always an option.
We were staying in the area and called in for a Birthday meal. The Orchard is basically a large restaurant serving plain English food and very good at it to. The meal and service were both excellent. The owner/staff was very helpful, welcoming and made you feel at home. They open at 8 o'clock for breakfast. Which we will sample before the journey home.
Had a lovely lunch here, good home cooked food and lots of it. As always a warm and friendly welcome. Definitely worth a visit.
We stopped by chance as we were reaching the end of our journey. All that we wanted was a cup of tea and a quick bite to eat.
We were met by a friendly welcome and a large and delicious selection of cakes and other delicious things to enjoy with our tea.
Very friendly and kind staff who are willing to talk about the establishment and the local area. By the entrance there was a board outlining the history of the The Orchard and the surrounding area. Would recommend a visit.
Freindly owner and staff. Clean environment, well spaced tables and chairs. Lovely outside area with shade and bicycle stands. Great stop off if you're riding the Down's Way or passing by road. We only had a takeaway sausage sandwich and hot chocolate. The kind owner allowed us to park here with a purchase from her restaurant. Official parking for West Grinstead Station is on Kennal Rd but the station only has a small car park with hight restriction barrier. Great sandwich btw 👍😁
For a roadside convenience food stop this is surprisingly quiet and borderline posh. The kindly staff are pleasant and helpful. Food well cooked and flavorful basic fare from breakfast to afternoon. Massive car park and can get busy but service is normally efficient and quick. If walking the downslink railway route this is a perfect watering hole. Behind it is the museum carriage and remains of West Grinstead station. Interesting place to take a break.
well, what a find. fell into this restaurant on my way home and very hungry and tired. excellent service, wonderful owners, great home made food (coronation chicken was the best I have tasted and it is home made) and really fresh. so pleased I went in will definately be back. i felt looked after as the lady offered to fill my drinking bottle with water for my journey without me even asking....what lovely people and food. Just edited to say I am very fussy and hard to please so thank you for pleasing me!!
Nice service from the staff. Had the breakfast there on a few occasions and it has been consistently good. Can get busy on peak dates such as fathers day so would recommend ringing ahead and booking a table.
