Room booked for trip back up to Aberdeenshire. Lovely suite, aspiring French style. Huge bathroom. Dining super. Great food big portions. Big car park. Clean and welcoming. One of the nicest little places have stayed, breakfast just superb quality and quantity. Drinks service was slow but kept prompting young lady sure could have been more on ball on this only.

Came across this pub/restaurant as we were passing through the area. We have been visiting the Lake District for several days and this was the best meal we have had since visiting. It was so homely and the service was brilliant. Sophia was our waitress and she was so accommodating and helpful. I ordered a glass of wine which I did not quite like (my fault) and she really went out of her way to help find me something that suited my taste buds. She was so helpful and polite and I would highly recommend a visit to this pub… and to top it off.. they do cherry Bakewell tart which hardly any restaurants do for dessert!

Absolutely beautiful plates and lovely flavours for our 2 daily specials. Service was reasonably quick (18:45 table and place only a third full) and was friendly. My wife was very pleased with her Feather Blade of beef, bone marrow crumble, parsnips, potato, celeriac puree and kale. Quantity was acceptable, though far from generous at £28. My choice of Stonebass was a very meaty fish - and, I gather from later research, a rare one to see - probably justifying the £29. The sauce was lukewarm but tasty. 7 balls of saffron potato were served hard (the server said that was how they are supposed to be) and 5 small mussels, deep fried in breadcrumbs, were a nice texture change. I would have liked a lot more of something on my plate, however. We chose the expensive specials as the regular menu was not at all remarkable in its description. When we saw their fish & chips at the next table (£17), we were glad we'd gone for the specials...to let them show off a bit. I thought nouvelle cuisine, with its sample portions, was old hat.....

We came here on a Sunday with the family and such a great experience. Food was delicious. Great atmosphere and family friendly, the staff were good and attentive. Would highly recommend recommend if you are anywhere near the southern part of the lake district

Delicious food for everyone, we had Sunday roasts and they provided a fantastic vegan option, their vegan dessert was incredible (on request)! Meat eaters loved their meal, as did our toddler from the kids menu. Lovely atmosphere with beautiful decor.

Good, clean comfortable room with a beautiful enormous bathroom. But music in restaurant was clearly audible in the room as speakers are embedded in the ceiling downstairs. Excellent breakfast. Very good tea in room. Great location for a stopover when headed back south from Scotland

Delicious food, great atmosphere and really welcoming and friendly staff. We visited here after realising we needed to fuel up on food before making our travels elsewhere. I choose The Plough just by searching on Google maps and to our surprise...it was amazing! I struggle with big portions of food and the fact they have a "SMALL battered haddock and chips" was perfect. Filled up just right! I would definitely recommend visiting. Beautiful setting!

Stopped for quick lunch. Nice sitting out. My sandwich was tasty, nicely presented, not cheap but enjoyable. Friends got starters and portion of fries, starters were small but again tasty. Nicely decorated inside.

Birthday meal with friends. I thought it was just another pub with the standard pub meals, but one look at the menu and I realised I was completely wrong. An exquisite selection on the menu with a wide range of options to suit the most picky palates. The food was very well presented, and neatly arranged on the plate. Some of the meals had a generous portions whilst others had eloquently presented food, but would not be a wholesome meal for a gent without an order of sides. The waiters were efficient and well-presented.
