Why does it lose a star when the fresh seasonal food is very good, the venue polished, atmosphere pleasant and staff well trained? It's because somehow its just slightly less than the sum of its quality parts. Plenty of staff but they buzz about a little too much and it took effort to get their attention, they want £6 for bread and butter (when the well priced mains should cover that), needlessly small portion of chips, bright lights in eyes, etc...
Just needs a bit more attention to detail to be really excellent.
Beautifully renovated pub, serving excellent food. Rated with 2 AA rosettes and the food certainly delivers. Garden is an absolute delight with a stunning wisteria covering the lower seating area. Definitely a place to take friends and family if you want to wow them! Menu changes regularly with the season so always something new to try on every visit we've made. Had the scallops which were divine andnso perfectly cooked and lots of nibbles from the garden menu. Highly reccomend both the pork belly main and lamb shoulder, melt in the mouth tender and delicious garnishes with beautiful plating.
I went for lunch at The Mutton with my brother and it was amazing. The atmosphere was very pleasant. The good was fantastic! The service was amazing!
I highly recommend The Mutton. It was a treat 👍🏻
Had a nice Sunday roast, my brother brought his dogs which is helpful for dog people. We didn’t realise they had such a nice garden and had we known might have sat outside in the sun. Food was really good. Some small room for improvement on the roast potatoes however overall excellent
I've eaten here a couple of times since the refurb and the food is of an excellent standard. Really high quality menu in a beautiful pub setting. The garden is gorgeous and you can also dine in private shepherd huts. Thoroughly recommend the banoffee cheesecake
Great food to complement a night out with wife, daughter and her fiancé. Main courses of steak and venison were fab. Homely, warm atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff. Not that cheap but very good food - so definitely worth the cost.
First class. Food was delicious, well presented and perfect portions to enjoy a 3 course meal. Service was welcoming, attentive and friendly. Menu was varied with vegetarian and fish options. Decor was knockout, kudos to Housenine. Can’t wait to return 🫶🏼
Really lovely spot, with vegan and veggie options. Extensive wine list. Cosy fire in the corner away from the restaurant. Big car park out back
We were so lucky to find this place. Excellent service, tasty food, stylish interior. Thank you! Highly recommended! We would love to come back!
Fish n chips was a bit greasy and the curry sauce had a skin on it as if it had been sitting around. Having said that, the wine, service and atmosphere were all great and the food was excellent barring those 2 minor gripes. Highly recommended. We’ll be back!
Excellent spot, service and food. Would be 10/10 if it wasn't for the steak, which was frozen and not at all consistent with all the other well prepared dishes. Possibly as they were kindly able to squeeze us in without us making a reservation on a busy day Will be back many times (unless I'm banned after this comment!)
First step through the door you're greeted by friendly staff and a blazing fire. The atmosphere is very welcoming and homely.
The interior design is honestly next level from the lighting to set the mood, all the way down to the small details and decorations to make you feel right at home.
All the effort into the design puts you into a relaxed mindset making it easy to block out the internal noise, drink some wine and eat some amazing food.
Talking about food, it's to die for!
We came as a group of 7 so naturally we ordered one of everything and shared.
I'm not a fan of cheese but every single cheese dish had me second guessing myself.
First glance at the menu I was thinking this is just your standard grub with fancy names but I couldn't be more wrong.
My favourite dishes was the squid crackers, venison main dish (wow!) and the salted caramel tart with coffee ice cream.
I will be coming back.
Pleasantly surprised by this hidden gem
Excellent food and choices, warm night so in the garden, really lovely
Only 1 point, we were left standing at the bar waiting to be seated a while , felt rather awkward, serving staff kept saying we'd be seated soon, we had booked. Chief / owner/ manager was flitting about placing tables and eventually seated us. Very pleasant but felt unnecessary and uncomfortable wait tbh. Everyone else appeared to be seated instantly.
Clearly popular and regulars. Young serving staff very lovely
A minor detail, certainly recommend excellent food and atmosphere
Good times will be had by all whom visit this fine establishment! Lovely friendly welcome by staff and a warm log fire 🔥 Outside area is a delightful countryside scene with local cattle nearby and good quality solid garden furniture.
Food is lovely, even though I didn’t have a proper meal, just snacks. The plates that came out looked delicious! Great beers and bar selection. Top place 🍻🥂 🐄
I’ve visited The Mutton now about 5/6 times and each visit the food has been outstanding and we’ve never been disappointed. Staff are so welcoming and friendly and go out of their way to accommodate requests.
Food is excellent. Everything we’ve ordered has been cooked to perfection.
With the weather warming up our last few visits have been booked for the garden which has been furnished to the same standard as the interior and is beautifully maintained.
Our favourite place in the area to go now!
Thoroughly enjoyed roast beef Sunday lunch. Excellent all round and will definitely go again......need to book as very popular, and rightly so.
Great lunch, amazing food and friendly attentive service. Dog friedly perfect setting for us. Wilson loved it
