Had a evening meal before Eurovision. Great food and atmosphere with very friendly staff. Will be back for a Sunday lunch next!
What a great pub....the best by far in the South East...Lee is a great host as are all the staff, who are all wonderful....always a warm welcome at The Red Lion, Hooe
It’s been a little while since I’ve written a review and this establishment definitely warranted one. I’ve come to the Red Lion on a number of occasions but I haven’t actually eaten here before.
It would seem I was mistaken not to have done so much earlier.
The atmosphere is amazing. Quiet and extremely relaxing setting the mood for a very pleasant evening. The staff are friendly, efficient and very professional and I couldn’t fault them in any way. They were very helpful and made me feel at home immediately and this really set the standard for the rest of the evening.
The menu, although not extremely large, covered many tastes and would satisfy most people. I ordered one of the summer specials, the Greek Pork Koftas, which arrived swiftly and looked amazing. Wonderfully, it tasted even better, along with the Greek salad and the fries which both complemented the dish very well. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal and couldn’t find anything to fault it, it was excellent.
I had what I thought would be a standard blackberry and apple crumble with custard for my desert. It was anything but standard. The crumble was pretty much perfect and the fruit was just tarts enough. The homemade custard with vanilla pods was just amazing, and I will say that although the main meal filled me up, the desert did not make feel like I had over-eaten.
I truly believe that if you want a wonderful night out in with a brilliant atmosphere, excellent staff and food that will leave satisfied and very pleased with your choice, then you should try this place for yourself, you will not be disappointed.
Ah well, enough rambling on. Try it for yourself and you will probably find yourself writing a similar review
Has heard about this place from friends and wasn’t disappointed. The lounge was warm and welcoming by virtue of a lovely log fire (so many places seem cold at the moment). Each table has a lovely candle making for a cosy ambiance. The food was excellent. Tasty, fresh, lovely ingredients and well presented with being pretentious. We had the Muscadet wine which was excellent and reasonably priced. The service was without fault and the owners on multiple occasions asked how things were going. Plus dog friendly (thank you!). Will certainly be returning.
We had a great meal, it was well cooked and the pears soaked in red wine for dessert was to die for!! So yummy. One thing is that they do not provide email, text or online booking. They only provide voice phone calls. It is not accessible for us as we are deaf. Hope they will improve with communication access on their website. We would go there again and the prices are very good. Friendly staff!!
We popped in on our way from the beach. Had lovely dinner.
Staff are welcoming
Very enjoyable, good beer, good food and pleasant surroundings
Visited today for lunch. Hasn't changed since our last visit over 14 yrs ago. Sat in the garden and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. We had come as a small family get together as part of childhood remembrance. Delicious lunch. Friendly staff made us welcome and their pug so friendly
Did a six mile circular walk from Chestnut Meadow Country Park to this lovely pub today. We had great wood fired pizzas followed by rhubarb & apple crumble watching men’s Wimbledon tennis finals in their garden. Food was delicious and staff were very friendly, lots of Sunday roasts also being enjoyed. A great find thank you.
What a lovely cozy friendly pub. Food delicious. Staff so acco accommodating will definitely be going back and will take family and friends to enjoy the overall experience. Chris and Daniela
