Had a lovely Sunday lunch with the family, really friendly manageress was very friendly, not only to us but to all her customers. Food was lovely, it has improved since we were there before Christmas when, though nice, it seemed a bit fried but now the breadcrumbs on the garlic mushrooms and jalapeño starters was perfect. Would definitely recommend and we will be back!!

Lovely meal, staff are great & the new owners have updated the pub very well. Take a look at the 'chandeliers' in the restaurant, very retro & Eco!! Our first time since it changed but certainly won't be our last. Curry night on Thursday fortnight we must give that a try

Had a meal with friends at the compasses for the first time yesterday evening and was highly impressed. We received a warm welcome on arrival and was shown to our table and orders taken promptly. Excellent choice or mains, starters and desserts, what we order was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We will defiantly be returning.

A super country pub and restaurant. It has a separate restaurant area that can seat up to about 50 as a private party. They do of course take individual boookings and if the restaurant is full you can still eat the same food in the more informal bar area. The bar area has a lovely open fire in colder weather so it may be worth eating in there anyway! The food is jolly good English fare in the main, though there are some more exotic dishes. The fod is cooked to order and the waiters and waitresses are very helpful and friendly and the chef will alter things if the place is not over busy. There is a small garden with a play area for children and also pleanty of outside seating and car parking too. The prices are very good and the place is well worth trying.

We've been disappointed in the past but the new management seems to have got a hold of this place and we were very impressed. The staff are friendly, look after you very well and the beer is good. I had a Hot Lava Stone Steak Special which was delicious. The 7 oz. sirloin steak (£11.95 with all the trimmings) is just sealed by the chef in the kitchen and then brought to your table on an extremely hot lava stone. You just let it continue to cook until it is exactly to your liking. The meat was of very good quality and I really enjoyed it. The very nice waitress said some people don't like (as they put it) to do the cooking when they go to a restaurant. For goodness' sake.....????? The only other place I've had food cooked like this was in a very posh place on the Isle of Wight where the food cost more than twice as much and was not so good. My wife's cod and chips was good too. We'd happily recommend it.

We had dinner here tonight after a day out in the autumn sun. And it was great. Good value for money. Great choice on the menu, fresh veggies, steaks made exactly as we like them. And extra service with a glass of water when my brother had a coughing spree. Very friendly service and would love to come back asap.

Friendly pub with good food - recommend the fish and chips! Visited twice during a recent holiday and while it is not the snazziest inside the staff were very welcoming. Seemed to be one of the only places in the area where you could sit in to eat. Menu is quite varied with lots of traditional items alongside burgers etc. so one could happily visit a few times, but the fish and chips were so good I had it twice in a week. Partner tried the £10 steak & wine offer and didn't find it very appealing, but surely you can't expect much for a tenner!

Went for Sunday lunch. Had a vegetarian nut roast which came with the usual veg, Yorkshire etc plus cauliflower and broccoli cheese on the side. Everything was delicious and portion size was good for me, I couldn't quite finish. Would recommend!

I am delighted by the new refit and relaunch for The Compasses; being a regular visit to the village it is always nice to see renewed enthusiasm for local business. The new owners have done an excellent job of refreshing the decor, the menu is nice and not too fancy, good quality pub food. The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed and the food well cooked and presented. Good luck in the future and I shall definitely return when I next visit. Free wifi is also a bonus allowing me to catch up on work in a 3G dead zone.
