Rearranged our route back from Center Parcs, Woburn yesterday to return to this lovely little pub after many years away .. about 30 in fact! What a stunning location this is and what nicer way to enjoy a pot of english tea. Staff were very friendly. Can imagine this pub gets very busy, especially the outside dining area and seems very popular for Sunday lunches. Walked along the canal beforehand. A very still calm tranquil spot. Returning soon, hopefully before another 30 years go past.
My dog loves the fish And Eels it has a doggy station with fresh water and Dog treats I enjoyed the Salmon fish Cakes And a wine by the River
Very nice friendly staff very nice starter main and desert would love to go back in the summer as the garden is right on the rivers edge. Very reasonably priced to £61 for x2 starters main desert x1 bottle of Merlot pint of lemonade and one latte.
This is not a Michelin Star restaurant, it does not try to be either. It is just a good old fashioned pub with lovely décor with clean facilities and great for a meal out with friends or the family. Worth a try!
We went for a bite on one of their busiest day. We were pleased to be quickly seated on arrival (after being gently reminded to enter our car registration at the bar for free parking, which was a nice touch).
It was a hot day and the terrace was busy. There was still some seating space indoor. The outdoor space is located by the river and provides a nice and relaxed backdrop to afternoon drinks with family and our friends.
The indoor restaurant is nicely laid out with light throughout the room.
The menu has a nice variety of starters, mains and deserts with the usual Sunday roast choice. The desert choices are fun too.
We went for the fish main on a bed of potatoes, with a side of greens. The other dish was a chicken forestière with skin on chips. For dessert we both went for the trio of desserts, including a chocolate pudding with a gooey centre on top of which there was a scoop of honeycomb ice-cream, a lemon sort of mini cheesecake and a small creme brûlé. All of which were decent sized portions. Let's just say we were not hungry by the end of our dinner!
The only reason why I gave 4/5 stars for the food is because the presentation was a bit simple but that's me being picky! Definitely a place we will attend again in future! Great pub!
I visited for the first time for my Nan’s birthday this evening. What a lovely experience! We arrived to a beautifully decorated pub with cosy fairy lights and a burning log fire next to our table. We were greeted with an amazing waitress Louise, whose service was outstanding. She made us feel extremely welcome and accommodated all of our requests. The food was delicious. I requested my food without a certain vegetable, but the chef did not remove it. Before I had even noticed, Louise came over and told us she had removed my meal from our bill as it was their mistake, which was so kind. Her quality customer service made our evening. The atmosphere was calm and peaceful. The best service that I have received in a local pub/restaurant for years. I’m so glad that we chose this place to celebrate our nan’s birthday, and I will definitely be returning. Would highly recommend to everyone!
Louise's service was impeccable, elevating our dining experience to new heights. The food was delicious, from the flavorful seabass and succulent rib eye steak to the comforting soup. A truly enjoyable and highly recommended culinary adventure!
Nice views of the wier from the garden at the rear. Very relaxing during the week. Very busy at week ends.
Good selection of beers and lagers. Food is above standard pub grub but not gastro standards
Great pub to enjoy on your walk along the river. We enjoyed the brisket sandwich and good selection of beers in the wonderful riverside garden. An absolute gem in the Lea Valley.
We booked for a party of 6 for a dog friendly table. We did have one no show so just the five of us plus the dog. Service was excellent despite the pub being busier than expected due to the unseasonably good weather and staff short due to illness. Food was excellent, all options available. Had a really great afternoon. Well done Fish & Eels
I booked a table for 8 people aged from 4 to 84 for Sunday Lunch at 3pm on The Sunniest Day there has ever been in October!
The staff were great! They were able to recommend a Taxi firm for us !
We were able to have a table outside!
The kids were given a bag of food to feed the Ducks , We donated to a Swan sanctuary.
We had to order the food and drink at the Bar and this just added to the informally manor of the pub restaurant.
The shared stater was so tasty as was the lunch
Stunning location and lovely food (we highly recommend the sea bass, nicely crisp and lovely presentation)..shame about the staff...not a single smile (apart from a young lad who acknowledged my wait). Overall highly recommend and will definitely go again!
Great location and views for lunch. Fast service and friendly staff. Enjoyed our meal, thank you!
This is my favourite pub in the area. The pub has a very welcoming and calm atmosphere. The inside decoration is beautifully designed and makes you want to stay more. The outdoor space is huge and you don't feel crowde. been next to the water to relax or feed the ducks is a plus. We had drinks only on all occasions we were there so cannot comment on food. I do recommend this place.
We’re moving to the area soon and on our second viewing we asked a friend for a recommendation and he told us the fish and eels. We have been back twice since and with our new rescue dog. Not only was the service and food amazing all 3 visits but now we have the added bonus of how relaxed and welcome they make us feel with our rescue dog. Even offered water bowl and treats for him so not only are we looked after but also our new addition to our family.
We got the burger last Saturday and it was amazing. The man on the door is super welcoming and friendly, we look forward to being regulars and bringing family and friends with us too
Food is always lovely. Atmosphere and surrounds are unsurpassed. Just a lovely way to spend an afternoon.
We visit quite regularly. Plus, you love doggies which means we can bring our little Ellie with us. Always a bonus.
Do not miss out on this wonderful experience. A varied menu with food beautifully cooked & presented. The Fish & Eels has a superb ambience with lovely staff. Demi Leigh was both attentive & personable with a friendly humour. This was a very special place to enjoy a relaxing lunch & leaving the rush of everyday life firmly outside! Must try the tasty 😋 coffee ☕ which comes with a piece of THE BEST FLAPJACK I have ever tasted! I had two cups !!!!!!!!!!!!
Ethan was marvellous in sorting out the perfect table for us despite complications when booking online, and all with a smile on his face and some friendly banter too. As an extra bonus, he also made a fabulous cocktail!
Michelle was our waitress and was very helpful and friendly. She was knowledgeable about the menu and gave great advice when we made our choices.
A lovely lunch, enjoyed by all 5 of us, with a beautiful view over the river to boot! Thank you Ethan and Michelle, and the chef of course 😊
The staff was very welcoming, we were a party of four adults ranging between the ages of 40 to 70 years of age.
The menu was accommodating for everyone and I must say the 2 meals each we ordered was so appreciated for our taste.
We recommend this restaurant to everyone of any age as there is an excellent range of choices.
Excellent value for money.
We were so full that we did not need to order a dessert.
We ordered drinks and sodas.
We will definitely be returning.
The location and setting are delightful. The staff that were there were brilliant, but there seemed to be a shortage of staff. I was really disappointed with the food. Got the burger and chips. All my chips were about 2cms long so just small hard oily bits of crunch (guessing the 'dregs' of lunchtime service as we arrived at around 14:30). A slice of 'burger' cheese rather than 'real' cheese (eg cheddar). GREAT homemade sauce. I'd go to this pub again but only for drinks.
Roast dinners are lovely, wish burgers were a little bit bigger but other than that, so good! Loyalty card is soooo worth it too.
Only thing is that it’s worth ordering drinks on the app rather than at the bar cause they’ll charge a couple quid extra
MICHELLE WAS AMAZING SERVICE, LOVELY
